Greetings,

I'm looking to put in an order for CA bolt / arrow supplies and wanted
to see if anyone else was interested in putting in a big order. The
prices drop with bulk purchases and the shipping is better too. I would
be looking to collect money at Royal Huntsman.

Here are the prices for orders over 50 pieces:
New Fathead blunts (replaces the older Baldar Blunts) $2.25
Asgard APDs $0.50 w/ purchase of blunt
Crossbow bolt shaft $0.50
Arrow shaft $1.00

Please reply OFF LIST if you're interested and what quantities you would
like.

Thanks,
Baron Donnchadh

These announcements need to be removed from regular publication until and unless we have folks interested again and a place where we can regularly hold the classes.  I still have the instructor, but the location fell through fairly quickly and we didn't have a fall back plan.  Then, we got into summer and it just never took off again.  If folks are interested, please contact me off list and I'll see what I can do to revive this.  I still think it would be a good dea.

Unto the Populace of the Barony of Namron, Greetings Again!

This third missive to your email list will cover candidacy
requirements and specifics about the letters candidates will be
required to write.

Each of the emails I submit about the baronial selection process has
my permission for your chronicler and web minister to reprint in your
newsletter or post online on a page of your web site.

Candidacy requirements:
1)    You need to live in the barony or a canton.  I?m still verifying if
adjacent zip codes are allowed an exception.  If you are unsure if
your zip code qualifies you to be a candidate, let me know and I?ll
verify for you.
2)    You need to be a paid member of the SCA.  If your membership
lapses, you cannot continue to be the Baron or Baroness.
3)    You can apply as a single individual or two people can apply as a
couple.  The couple do not need to be married to each other.  One
person could reside in the barony and the other in the canton.  If
applying as a couple, submit joint letters as described below; not one
letter per person.  If applying as a couple, one male and one female
are required.
4)    You need to understand what is involved in the role.  Read Kingdom
Law and Corpora concerning the roles of landed Barons and Baronesses.
Also, consider visiting with the current or former landed nobility for
specifics that are not written down.
5)    You need to submit a letter to Their Majesties (do not copy me or
the Kingdom Seneschal) requesting consideration as the next landed
nobility for Namron.  Letters are due to Their Majesties by December
3
.  Specifics on the letter follow.  Letters may be postal mailed to
the address listed for the Crown in the Black Star or may be emailed
to Crown@....  While membership cards and photo ID would be
scanned in the case of an email, if you do email your letter then
please note the following.  Attach a copy of your letter as a Word doc
or text document or, if you scan your letter with signatures, copy the
text into the email itself to assist Her Majesty with reading the
text.
6)    You need to submit a letter to your baronial chronicler before
Christmas that will be published in the January issue of the
newsletter.  This letter should introduce you (or both of you) to the
populace and explain your vision of what you will bring the barony in
this role and where you see the barony going.  Solid plans on how to
get there are probably a positive thing.
7)    You must participate in an interview with Their Majesties.  Date
and place to be scheduled.
8)    You should conduct yourself during the candidacy period in the same
manner that you would conduct yourself for a professional job
interview
.
9)    The populace will be polled concerning their opinions on all
candidates.  (Polling specifics will come in a later email.)
10)    If selected, you must swear fealty to the Crown for the lands you
will hold in Fief.

Letters.

Your letter of candidacy to the Crown must include a photocopy of a
current membership card and a photocopy of some photo ID (such as
driver?s license).  The letter should clearly state that you are
requesting consideration to be the next Baron/ess of Namron.  It
should also include any experience you have, within the Society or
outside the Society, which contribute to your qualifications to hold
this position.  You should explain any needs you see in the barony
today and how you would address those.  You should explain where you
see the barony going if you are selected and what you will do to help
it reach that vision.

Additionally, Their Majesties have provided a set of questions that
they want any candidates to answer in their letter to the Crown.
Those questions (which may cover some of the points above) are:

1)    Where do you see the Barony in 5 years?
2)    What is your mission statement for your time as Baron and Baroness?
3)    What five things will you do to promote your vision?
4)    What five things will you do to promote unity within the Barony?
5)    If you do not become Baron or Baroness how will you support the
candidates that are chosen?

You must also submit a letter to your baronial chronicler before
Christmas.  Check with your chronicler for exact deadline.  That
letter will be published in the January issue of the baronial
newsletter.  The purpose of that letter is to introduce yourself
(yourselves) to the populace of the barony and canton.  It should
introduce who you are, your experience (inside or outside of the
Society) which may qualify you to be the next Baron/ess.  It should
touch on many of the themes you present to Their Majesties in the
other letter.

You could write one letter to the Crown and the populace which serves
both purposes.  That is not required.  You may find targeting your
audience with each letter to be a better writing option.

Greetings Northern Region!
The next Regional Rapier Muster/Practice will be held at Wiesenfeuer Yule on December 5th after the Toy Tournament. You can find out more here: http://wiesenfeuer.ansteorra.org/events.html

We will have classes on Mellee tactics/commands and discuss each group's plans for Gulf Wars. This will also be a good chance to get to know some of the other rapier fighters in the region.

I hope to see everyone there!

Someone has asked about helping with the ingredients for the beer we are making for the party at Beltane Games and the beer we are brewing for Gulf Wars.

Donnchadh and I usually cover the cost of the ingredients since booze and booze making ingredients can't come from baronial funds.

If anyone would like to chip in a few bucks to help with our costs that would be welcomed, but not necessary.

I am planning on making a sign board showing the names of everyone who helps with the labor and displaying it at the party next to the beer (must give credit where credit is due). If we have cash donations as well I will list the names of those good people also. I will be making separate signs for Beltane and the Gulf Wars Known World Party.

When: February 20th, starting at 8 a.m., ending when we drop dead.

As far as I know, the Kingdom still does not have a site for King's
Round Table. Since there is no cost for the event, the site would need
to be cheap or free, often a school or university. It needs classrooms
and a central meeting room.

Does anyone know of a site like that?

Thanks,

Greetings,
As many of you may know, Their Majesties youngest child Adair wears a Cochlear Implant that allows him to hear. The Processor for the Cochlear Implant has gone missing at Coronation. This is a magnetic device that may attach itself to objects which display magnetic properties.
If everyone would check among their belongings taken home from Coronation to search out this wandering device, we would all be most appreciative.
Please repost to other lists as you see fit.

work on some more loaner garb. At the last meeting, we were able to
get approx. 3 T-tunics started and almost completed.

As always, we will have some food to munch on, but feel free to bring
some more to share! We will also provide some drinks and homemade

Populace Meeting - 11/3/09
Norman Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Norman

Starts at 7:39pm.

Baron – Protectorate turned out good. Thanks to everyone for their
help, especially in packing up at the end. I was at the Harvest of
the Axe event, and we have a new Baron and Baroness of Northkeep. I
also announced that I was stepping down at Beltane.

Seneschal – summarizing what I put in the Plume; we are looking for
applications to autocrat Beltane, Protectorate, and Grand Assembly of
Archers if we’re to do it again next year. Protectorate and Beltane
autocrat applications are due by the December meeting. HL Tadhg will
be our Med Faire coordinator in 2010. We’ve talked about King’s
College, but I have no bids so far and they’re due to Kingdom by the
end of November. Coronation is this weekend. Queen’s Champion will
be the weekend after that…both are local events. Rapier Marshal and
Chronicler are currently accepting applications for their offices.
A&S night is this Monday, 11/9/09. The northern regional seneschal
sent us our populace numbers…94 paid members, of which 50 are
“sustaining”. 10 memberships expire in December, and another 16
expire in the first quarter of 2010. There is a demo in Moore this
Sunday, 11/8/09, from 3-6pm. Please contact Ian MacEwan to volunteer
to help. (Edit: Ian cancelled the demo on Thursday, 11/5/09.) We
had participation at the Haunted Forest activity at Camp Dakani, and
have earned a free site usage for our efforts. Officer reports are
due to me by the 5th of each month. The Barony will be paying for new
plates for the Crown (the office), and we’ll do a hat-passing for a
personal set for Their Majesties.

Med Faire coordinator (Jacqueline for Tadhg) – sorry I’m not here, I
had to be out of town tonight. Med Faire is coming up soon. I’d like
to get an inventory of the shed contents soon and identify anything
that needs to be repaired. I’d like to have most of the work done by
mid February. There will be some changes from last year…for example,
the layout is going to be changed around to improve traffic flow.
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments. Their
Majesties will be there.

Treasurer – I need Protectorate receipts tonight. Our share of the
Grand Assembly of Archers take was $250. We have at least $6,843
before the Protectorate accounting.

Chronicler – all okay, send me stuff to be published in the Plume.

Rapier Marshal – great weekend…we had a Northern Regional muster on
Sunday. Her Majesty will choose her Queen’s Champion later this
month. Some of us are going to Bordermarch Autumn Melees…if you want
to come along, let me know.

Hospitaler – We had a request from the OU Drama Department to borrow
an articulated helm. We also have two new pieces of loaner garb.

Thrown Weapons – going good. In December, we’re going to start having
Thrown Weapons practice on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month.

Herald – thank you for your help at Protectorate…my voice still worked
for evening court. Let me know if you have any name or device
submissions.

A&S – we made loaner garb last month. We need to do some more…if you
can’t make it to a meeting with the rest of us, get with me about how
to make some on your own. Everyone keep doing their crafts. We
always need stuff for the prize baskets.

Archery Marshal – Good showing at Protectorate, special mention for
Vincente. We’re still practicing on Sundays.

Web Minister – Web site update this coming Saturday.

Maleah – We’re having Thanksgiving at our house, feel free to come by,
there will be trivia. Also remember that there is drum and bardic
practice on Wednesdays.

There was an informational presentation by the Northern Regional
Seneschal about the upcoming baronial polling, including specific
points for the Letters of Intent and the polling procedure. I’m not
going to try and detail it here, because I’ll get it wrong. There
will be a separate posting from the Regional Seneschal with all of the
details. The next “date” would be Thursday, 12/5/09, when the Letters
of Intent are due to the Crown and the Populace.

Ended at 8:40pm
