During the interval, the populace of Pern grew and expanded. As the Red Star drew closer, the Weyrs began to ponder expansion themselves in order to protect the newly inhabited parts of Pern. One particular lush piece of land was a large island off of the south west coast of the northern continent. Fishing Holds began to spring up as wells as a klah field. A mining hold was formed on another island close by. Located off of the western coast of the Northern Continent. Experiences temperate conditions ranging from tropical in the summer to cold in the winter. Named for the black sand beaches formed from volcanic eruptions. As far as anyone knows, those volcanoes have been dormant for hundreds of Turns. Queenrider Ainsley was sent to the newly constructed Sabbia Nera Weyr to be the Weyrwoman. Her Queen Maiseth are due to rise and the bronze who wins will become Weyrleader.
