Hi all,
As the first SPAM has just appeared, I ahve turned on moderation for
all new members - so, all of you that are in here now - no problem -
post away. New members will have their posts moderated, at least until
we can see that they are not spammers.
Also, any attachments sent on a message to the group will be stripped
off. If you want to share something, then please, upload it to the
files or photos section and send a message in to the group about it.
Cheers, Thomo the Lost

Also, at the bottom of the Group home page there is a link to Saga
too - at the very bottom of the page :-)

Sorry about missing Historicon, had to get surgery on short notice
and was ordered to stay off my feet for three weeks. What a pain in the
*#$. Anyway, I found the new site so I'll still be here for rules
interpretations and comment. And, I just bought a collection of
Ancients and now have some Romans so I am going to have just about
anything I need to play AW! Now all I need is some Byzantime Infantry!
I found another wargaming podcast that may be of interest to members.
This is the "Atomic Lounge", a New England based website:
http://atomiclounge.libsyn.com/
If you know of other podcasts and vidcasts that are for wargamers,
please post a notice so that we can all listen/watch these programs.

John is right...there is no information on how to order or the cost of
Saga News Letter on your website.

A link to Saga Publishing has been added to the Links folder. This is
the website from which you can order any publication except MW (as of
January 2008). For MW, please contact The Foundry or Amazon or
another retailer.

OK - Perry has been made a co-owner of the group now. I suggest we look for an additional moderator/owner or two for the group - any volunteers?
Also, there is no restriction on membership (like moderating first posts) at the moment so spread the word around for your buddies, friends, fearsomne opponents from the other side of the table to join now whilst it is easy :-)

I have lots of Romans, but alas no Germans, that I can bring to the
Teutoburger Wald party (curiously enough, I have been playtesting a
boardgame on this this subject for a famous boardgame designer)

I have added lots of new files to the Files folder. There are now
several folders, which will be used to organize the various files on
this website. If you wish to upload files, please let me know before
doing so. I shall let you know where to add the files in order to
ensure the information is easy to access according to subject.
The files have been copied from the older discussion groups and more
will be added later. If there are other files from the older (and no
longer supported) websites that you want to have on this new website,
then please let me know and I shall upload them.
The names of the folders are self-explanatory (QRS, campaigns,
scenarios, articles, etc.) so that you can quickly find information.

Yes, I realize that Historicon 2008 just finished last Sunday. It is
never too early to start planning for the next convention (even if
there are a few other events between now and next July).
There are two convention activities that I wish to organize for
Historicon 2009. The first is the Ancient Warfare (AW) tournament
that Larry Irons has volunteered to umpire. This will be a two game
tournament with 525 point armies. The other event is a scenario based
on Teutoburgerwald 9 CE. Next year will be the 2000th anniversary of
the battle and it would be an ideal subject for an AW scenario.
If you want to play in the tournament, please post a message and I
shall compile a list of entrants. While it is too early to predict if
there will be enough interest in 15mm and 25mm events, there will be
some armies available to players who want to play but cannot provide
their own armies.
For the Teutoburgerwald scenario, I need figures for both armies. If
you are willing to lend your figures for this game, please let me
know. I would like to do it in 25mm scale. For those of you who saw
the Hattin scenario and/or read the articles about it in the
newsletters, the Teutoburgerwals scenario will be similar with the
Romans trying to exit the table and the Germans attempting to block
their escape.

Just in case you are not familiar with the company, the following is a
description of what is being published and also future projects.
The first rulebook was Medieval Warfare (MW), which covers 450 to 1500
CE. It is now being published by The (Wargames) Foundry in the UK.
This company will eventually publish Ancient Warfare (AW), which
covers 3000 BCE to 450 CE, as well as the army lists for MW and AW.
Currently there is no forecasted release date for these publications.
Until further notice, please contact Saga Publishing for the army
lists and AW rulebooks.
Saga also has Renaissance Warfare (RenWar or RW), which covers 1500 to
1690, Lace Warfare (LW), which covers 1690 to 1783, Napoleonic Warfare
(NapWar or NW), which covers 1789 to 1815, and Victorian Warfare
(VicWar), which covers 1854 to 1901.
Future releases include:
Fantasy Warfare (FW), which is similar to MW with special sections on
magic and army lists based on many popular fantasy armies (elves,
dwarves, orcs, etc.);
Verdun Warfare, which will cover WW1 with an emphasis on the Western
Front (Belgium and France 1914-1918);
Siege Warfare (SW), which is a supplement for AW and MW, and is for
siege operations prior to the general adoption of gunpowder artillery;
Vauban Warfare will be a supplement for RW, LW and NW, and will be for
siege operations of the early gunpowder eras; and
Skirmish Warfare will be for small scale actions and will complement
AW and MW (and possibly other rulebooks).
All future projects are in various stages of development. There will
be notices about them posted to this website. There will be scenarios
for these rulebooks at future HMGS conventions, so if you want to try
something new, then check the HMGS website for convention game schedules.
A separate but related project is Paul Dobbins' Trojan Warfare. This
is based on AW with many modifications and variations. He supports TW
on a separate website:
http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/TrojanWarfare/
If you want to know more about any Saga publication, then please post
a message on this website. Answers are usually posted within one or
two days.

There are two sources for Saga rulebooks and other publications. The
main source is Saga Publishing and its website is at:
http://sagapublishing.homestead.com/
This is where you can find the data necessary to order rulebooks, army
lists and other publications.
The only exception (as of January 2008) is that Medieval Warfare (MW)
is now being published by The Foundry. You can order copies from its
website at:
http://www.wargamesfoundry.com
You can also order copies from Amazon, On Military Matters and several
other retailers. Please note that MW army lists are not yet available
from Foundry, so you must order from Saga or one of our retailers (On
Military Matters - http://onmilitarymatters.com/ or Caliver Books -
http://www.caliverbooks.com).
If you have any problems, please post a message here and Saga
Publishing staff will sort everything out.
Remember Saga Publishing has a bi-monthly newsletter that is published
in February, April, June, August, October and December. Each issue is
48 or more pages featuring articles on military history, wargaming,
Saga scenarios and updates on Saga publications. It is not
exclusively about Saga rulebooks and there are articles about other
rulebooks and historical periods not currently covered by Saga
rulebooks. Anyone can submit articles and we appreciate input from
anyone who is interested in promoting their activities.Subscriptions
are available through the SP website for both printed and electronic
versions of the newsletter.

Greetings,
Welcome to the new discussion group. This will be the new home for
all Saga Publishing rules. This is where to ask questions about the
rules, army lists and anything else pertaining to Saga.
I shall be posting quick reference sheets (QRS), gaming aids and other
files in the near future. There will also be photos of Historicon and
other events added to the Photos folder.
