Title of RPG: HogwartsNewYearRPG

  What's new in HNY? Here's a short recap of the last week or two!

Word of Narcissa Malfoy's visit to the school is spreading like wildfire among the students. Narcissa took advantage of the opportunity to get a book from the library at Malfoy Manor that includes dark spells (not illegal but questionable) to Draco at Leni's earlier request.

  The ferret stories about Draco have been expanded to include tales of a White Stag in reference to the antlers hex incident. Draco is with Pansy and has been since the Weasley Twin seminar, but Pansy is remaining distant. She is still angry with him for his misdeeds with another girl during the past two weeks.

  Leni (6th year Slytherin) had a run-in with Lexx Zathour (7th year Slytherin prefect and Death Eater). Information she'd given him turned out to be false which caused him a week of unnecessary worry. Lexx reminded her that those who seek to serve the Dark Lord must not fail tasks given them. He immobilised her, telling her the Dark Lord would have just killed her outright for the failure, but that he would be more generous and give her a passing chance at being rescued. Leni is still immobilised in the remote disused bath and slumped face down in a large sink that is slowly filling with water.

  Severus Snape and Dumbledore had words about his treatment of students, one in particular. Severus thought Dumbledore meant the girl with the locket, for whom he's been developing feelings that he still struggles to resist. He expected to be fired. However, Dumbledore meant the 5th year Gryffindor boy, Firius Burnside, who has become addicted to a pain potion and prone to pass out. Severus, knowing the boy could not safely manage anything in his class in his current condition and wondering why he didn't ask for an exemption as Draco had done years earlier, hauled the boy in front of the class and forced him to admit he could not do anything and then sent him packing to the hospital wing...alone.

  Firius passed out in the corridor from pain and anger, where Pettigrew in rat form happened across him. Mrs. Norris tried to pounce at Rat!Peter when she spotted him, causing Rat!Peter to flee but not before leaving behind a little something on the still unconscious boy. Firius has since been sent to St. Mungo's for an experimental treatment in an effort to get his pain and addiction under control. Students are just learning that he's gone and that Snape was involved yet again in someone leaving Hogwarts abruptly. Dumbledore asked all four Heads of House to his office to discuss student welfare and to ask each of them to take special interest in their students, especially those who are most at risk.

   Harry is talking with Hermione, Ron and Susan (5th year OC) in the Gryff common room about using what they learned in the first seminar given by the Weasley Twins on Practical Application of Magic (combining spells to achieve a unique effect) to speed up their quest to translate an archaic text. Hermione hopes to brew an alternate truth potion so the newly reformed DA can use it on selected students in an attempt to find out who is behind the dastardly events at Hogwarts.

  Pansy and her cohorts are discussing ways to set up Lupin. Trelawney has been firing off prophecies and warnings one after another based on her tea leaf readings and Tarot spreads, but thus far everything she says is being largely ignored. Some of the staff suspect she is drinking again.

  An idea had been bandied about among a few Death Eaters of resurrecting Barty Crouch Jr. drawing on the notion of dementors as natural horcruxes... We would LOVE to see a writer who could take on this role and develop this story with us!

Detailed description: HNY is a canon-based RPG set in year 6. It is canon only through what was known as of the end of OoTP. We play out things that *could* have happened in canon from year 6 on and so creativity on the part of the players is strongly encouraged. We welcome new story lines and can find ways to accommodate/ integrate back stories as much as possible with existing ones. We also love to inject humour into the stories and be inventive with spells (within reason for the age of the character).

We have been an active RPG for over four years and have a great set of excellent writers. If you like role-playing and Harry Potter, then give us a try! We'd love to see new members! We have an opening for Remus Lupin and Minerva McGonagall, among many other canons!  At the moment, he is available for temping with a possible permanent opening.

If you have the drive and the ability to craft good Potteresque stories and can post often (3-4 times per week) to help move stories along PLEASE give us a look. We need student characters, preferably 6th and 7th years as well as adult characters who could be either Death Eaters or Order of the Phoenix members.

There is no limit on the number of characters a player can have as long as the player can manage them all. This includes canons.

We allow all ratings up to R, but we do ask that such posts be clearly marked in the header and at the top of the post so that members can decide whether to read them. We ask also that such posts be made only when they are integral to the plot and never for sheer titillation only. Most posts are in the G-PG range. Slash is allowed.

Many canon characters are available, i.e. Remus Lupin, Blaise Zabini, Arthur Weasley, Molly Weasley,  Cho Chang, Pomona Sprout, Filius Flitwick, Dobby, Minerva McGonagall, Albus Dumbledore, Crabbe/Goyle, Professor Sinistra, Professor Vector, Kreacher, Nymphadora Tonks, Percy Weasley etc.

A writing sample will be required for major canon characters. Bios for OCs must be approved before new players may post.

We'd especially like to see active adult characters, OCs included, who would be either members of the Order of the Phoenix, the Death Eaters or work for the Ministry in some capacity. OCs who can teach Muggle Studies will be considered provided they fit the wizard world. OC students for all houses, especially Gryffindor, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff are also very welcome.

Still Free, an original character Firefly/Serenity rpg is looking for someone to
fill our doctor role.  If you are looking for a Firefly group that you can
really explore and develop a character in, we may be what you are looking for.

Please consider the following before expressing your interest:

We are not a one-liner, single paragraph per post type writing group.  Expect to
see and contribute posts of at least 300 words each (3 to 4 decent sized
paragraphs) and in the third person/past tense.

While we don't have a minimum posts per week posting requirement, the GMs would
still like to know about absences, vacations, heavy work load weeks, etc. 
People here will be eager to write if you are, but we also need to know we can
count on you being available to write on a regular basis.

We communicate frequently by Yahoo Instant Messenger (YIM), so having an active,
and typically visible (verses invisible), id is preferred.  We have also started
to use Google documents (gdocs) to compose joint posts, so at least being
registered with Google is helpful.  Email is also used frequently for joint
posts as long as response turn around is reasonable.

Be aware that since we do frequently compose joint posts, sometimes the group
can appear to be in a lull, but that is often far from the case.  Many of the
members are also in other groups and or work full time jobs which can affect the
pace as well.

Our group is closed archive, but if what you've read so far isn't a problem, and
maybe even a breath of fresh air, we'll be happy to let you have a look around
before making your final decision to join us.

The Stargate, perhaps the single most incredible archeological find in Human
History. A gateway that took us almost 70 years to open, and when we finally did
open the `gate' we discovered a world of unknown beauty and terror. On our first
expedition to Abydos we discovered an enemy of great power and evil. Soon that
enemy was on our doorstep and kidnapped an United States Air Force Staff
Sergeant. The Teams that were sent on the mission to retrieve the missing Staff
Sergeant disappeared, leaving no trace behind. Major General Hammond was forced
to lock out the Iris Codes for Colonel Jack O'neil and the rest of SG-1 and
SG-2.

As a result of losing two SG teams the President forces General Hammond to
resign, and places Major General Alan Ballard in command of the SGC and orders
the immediate formation of 9 SG Teams. Their mission to travel through the gate
to explore new worlds, to acquire advanced weapons and technology to defend
Earth against the Gou'ald.

Stargate Command is a Forum based Game, where we will be going out into the

The world of Azzaria has been at war for centuries, all because of a mysterious
stone that was stolen by an Elf. While the stone was lost, the feuds between the
four Races has continued to escalate. It has grown for thousands of years, to
the point that the original feud has been labelled as a myth or long forgotten.

The last great war was twenty years ago, and casualties were great on all sides.
The Emperor Taron, ruler of the Imperials, grew up with ideas of peace and when
he became Emperor he sought contact with the other races of Azzaria. It was a
long and complex procedure, filled with frustration and after many years
peaceful negotiations began.

The result of those negotiations was an alliance between the races, starting
with a marriage and trade deals. Emperor Taron's son has been betrothed to the
daughter of the King and Queen of the Celts. The Emperor is also in talks with
the Elves to discuss a possible marriage between his niece, and one of the Elven
princes. Both marriages have been met with a mixture of distrust, happiness,
relief and suspicion on all sides. There are those who remember the last war,
and some look forward to peace, while others hold onto old grudges and past
sins.

Azzaria is in a time of great change. Whether it is for the better or the worst,

Allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Christopher Boone, and I'm the new CO
of the USS Guinevere (http://www.ussguinevere.t35.com), an Excalibur-Class
starship in Task Force 21 of Obsidian Fleet (http://www.obsidianfleet.net).

As the Subject line says, the Guinevere needs a crew.  I have some plots that
I'd like to run, and I certainly think that they have the potential to be very
good and interesting plots - but obviously I can't really run those plots if
there's no one else in the sim.  And that, my good fellow simmers, is where you
come in.  I'm hoping that you're willing to conisder joining the Guinevere and
participating in these plots.

I won't promise that you will have the best time of your life or that the
Guinevere will be the greatest sim ever (I know that there's a lot of

Description: In the wake of a series of violent attacks that many assumed were
brought on by mutants, the government threw together a hasty declaration: all
mutants were to be rounded up, registered, and filtered into institutions, where
they would be removed from society to ensure a better quality of life for the
human population.

During the initial evaluation stages, it became apparent that certain mutants
would be a dangerous liability to keep around. As a result, it was decided that
those mutants with a particularly violent gift and / or a penchant for criminal
activity would be shipped to an island known as Genosha. Heavily secured to
avoid anyone escaping, the island is completely isolated and self-sufficient.
After being dropped off, the inhabitants are left to their own devices and are
forced to fend for themselves if they want to survive.
