The Sleeping Beauty

Years of strife are finally coming to an end for the Kingdom of Svevik with the union of King Vakas to Freyna Gulbransdatter, daughter of High Chief Gulbrand, leader of Bakke in the icy lands to the North. The hopes of the peoples of both lands rest with the joining of houses and the heirs it will produce. Already, warring has stopped along the border and peace is settling over both lands.

But that has all been put in jeopardy, for a strong spell has been cast over the Queen, who slumbers in unnatural sleep, her belly heavy with child, the heir to a throne that will seal the peace of two great people -- if the spell can be lifted and the child allowed to grow.

Even the most powerful mages, physicians, politicians and apothecaries from both kingdoms could not budge the spell, or even begin to discover its source, so, in desperation, King Vakas and High Chief Gulbrand have put out a call to all the people:

Whosoever shall lift the spell from Queen Freyna shall be forever held in the highest regard by Svevik and Bakke alike, and shall have greater riches than they could ever imagine. Debts will be paid, crimes forgiven, lands and titles bestowed.

Karina was a simple girl, no one important at all, just an orphan serving an apprenticeship in a bakery. Like most young women, her hopes and dreams revolved around making a home and having a family. Then one night she had a dream, although by the third night in a row that it visited her, she was convinced it was more than that. It was a vision, and she could no longer ignore it, so she packed what meager things she had and set out to chase her dream.

But she would need help...
