If you can get hold of a copy of the following book... 'Normandy
1944, German Military Organisation, Combat Power and Organisational
Effectiveness' by Niklas Zetterling...ISBN 0-921991-56-8

you will find it to be the bible for almost all known info on the
units which fought in Normandy.

It contains a full oob for all divisions and includes, where
available, types and quantities of weapons down to small arms
possessed by each unit at the time of the landings.

Although the static divisions (7 series) possessed 5cm mortars, these
were festung granatwerfer pieces which were mounted on a concrete
plinth inside a Vf61a tobruk. Actual piece could be a german one or a
captured French one of similar calibre such as the Festung GRW 210(f)
I believe.

However you would find portable 5cm mortars within Ost battalions
instead of 8cm mortars and there is evidence that Cossack battalions
in France also were issued the 5cm instead of the 8cm mortar.

In addition, there is no evidence to support Static, Ost or Cossack
units using the panzer-faust or panzer-schrek before the end of the
campaign in August. Instead there was much use made of the 4.5cm(r)
and 3.7cm pak guns at company level. These were horse or man drawn in
the main.

So.... let's see some Ost and Cossack companies fighting PBI actions
on the table top... much more fun than the usual so-called 'elite'
types what what!
