Quiz GB is now closed.
The Thursday night quiz lives on, and any news or announcements about
that will appear somewhere appropriate at my new website (for want of
somewhere better), which will soon be open at www.linham.co.uk . The
text on the front page of the group site may also be updated with any
information.
From the other mods and myself, thank you for reading and posting over
the last three-and-a-half years.
So long, and thanks for all the quiz.
Rob
Have just been googling and in the public interest feel duty bound to inform
those who were at tonight's online quiz that Demi and Daisy Brooke were
definitely born in Good Wives, not Little Women!
Wouldn't like wrong information on such vitally important girlie knowledge
to go unchallenged!

Just to let you know, this still takes place every week at:
http://www.buzzerquiz.com/java/
If you have trouble getting in the room, mIRC seems to provide a good
alternative method:
http://www.mirc.com/ (download and install it, no need to register)
File>Select Server
Network: DALnet
Then select connect from the tree on the left.
enter your details (the e-mail address can be fake, as can the other
details).
Then select connect to server.
after a few seconds a load of data will spew over the screen.
at which point you will need to type "/join #quizgb" (without the quotes) in
the bar at the bottom.
Hope it works!

Dear Quiz GB members,
I have finally managed to get round to closing down Quiz GB.
Most of the group site has been cleared out, but I intend to make the
archives of the group messages public for posterity, not least because
some very good questions were asked in the Never-Ending Quiz.
However, if you would prefer that your messages were not made
accessible (and, in all probability, searchable on Google), you have
until next weekend to delete them from the archive. If you are unable
to do so, please e-mail me at rob (at) linham.co.uk, giving the
number(s) of the message(s) you would like deleted.
After next weekend, all group memberships will be deleted and new
posts will not be possible.
Thank you for reading.

I can't get in via the .cgi link and if I try the other one my firewall asks
if I want to unblock internet explorer. Presumably I should in this case?

Hi all
I am new to quizzing and would like to run some quizzes in local
pubs and meeting rooms etc.
I would like to use photographs, music, dialogue and video clips,to
ask questions from, but am not sure if this is permissable under
copyright laws.
The pubs I have approached have said that they are covered by an
entertainments licence and it would be OK to run these under this
licence.
I live in the UK, so it is UK regulations that would apply. I
obviously do not want to fall foul of the law, so would be very
grateful if anyone can advise me.
Many thanks, cornishlizard
Will this ever be re-instated in any form? The continuous quizzes on
Quizzing are fun but they aren't the same!

I entirely concur. Thanks to Rob, Stephen and Will for their work
moderating the group and running QGB chat.
Regards,
DS
I'll miss QuizGB, particularly the NEQ which I loved doing - but it seems a
sensible decision. Thanks to all the moderators for 3 years' hard work.

Dear Rob
Like a much loved elder relative, it is the right time to pull the plug on
this respected site.
For those QUIZGB members who have not already joined, www.quizzing.co.uk
extends a warm invitation to our site with regular news features, ten continuous
quiz strands and more things quizzical than you can shake a stick at.
Cheers
Mark

Dear Quiz GB members,
Three years and a week or so ago, I messed around with Yahoo! Groups and
set up the first discussion site for British quizzing on the 'net. In it's
heyday, Quiz GB was getting hundreds of posts a month, and the Never-Ending
Quiz was the source of much competition.
Now, however, the group is rather moribund. The Never-Ending Quiz has been
"borrowed" by A.N.Othersite, and has fallen victim in the last few months
to certain parties' failure to note the "never-ending" bit of the name ;)
Also, unlike other discussion groups, Quiz GB is completely independent of
other websites, and therefore doesn't have the publicity clout to attract
new members. The only thing that's still running well is the Thursday night
chatroom quiz, albeit in about its fourth different venue.
Therefore, I am now proposing to close down Quiz GB. I will be sorry to see
the old warhorse go, but since my retirement I've not had the time to spend
on it anyway; indeed, thanks are definitely due to my co-moderators Stephen
Pearson and Will Jones, who have done a great job, but even they have been
unable to stem the latest tide of senseless spam. If we were to keep the
group going, we would have to institute some sort of approval for
membership, which would eat into the mods' time even more.
If closed, the group wouldn't however disappear completely. I would remove
all the members and close both membership and posting, but I would make the
archives publically accessible for the sake of posterity. Also, given that
it is now hosted there anyway, I (or more accurately, Will) would transfer
the Thursday night quiz session to the remit of BuzzerQuiz. In time, I/we
may work on adding a forum to the BuzzerQuiz site to resurrect a new form
of NEQ, staying true to the original non-dumbed-down hard/cryptic questions
form of the game, but I'm making no promises.
I'll leave this open for discussion for a week or so.
Thanks,
Rob (moderator)

OK, there seems to be a problem with the BuzzerQuiz site.
Please try here:

(temporary solution, only the java option is available)
