The rules are but many of the figures fit the Duke's time. I have a bundle of cav, Elephants and foot.

Checked my Ospreys, thought I had the HEIC book but it is Napoleon's Overseas Army and has a nice pic of a frog at Pondicherry.

I think a Bicorne style hat was the go then, transitioning to a shako by the time the Duke got involved, so the tricornes of AWI are a bit wrong.

2009/11/20 Reinertsen, Jon <Jon.Reinertsen@health.wa.gov.au>

I have some British from the AWI which I haven't painted up as yet, not sure what they could double for, but probably for the early period they may be useful.

OK, I have a box of John Company stuff (or opponents) that I started when Cardie was running JC at NWS, I will see what I can round up. I have some Museum Turk/Persian HC as well.

2009/11/20 mikerwalsh <mrwalsh@westnet.com.au>

well that is what I have looked at so I
ordered some Sepoys and Madras/Bengal Native Infantry and some Matchlockmen
As well I have some unfinished Nap Brits with stovepipe shakos that I was going to make into DutchBelgian Militia but I have a stack of Brunswickers that I can use in that role so I will paint these guys and base with a similar scheme
also my Turk/Med Persian type cavalry will do for most of the Indian cavalry types I think.

Cheers Mike

I think a Bicorne style hat was the go then, transitioning to a shako by the
time the Duke got involved, so the tricornes of AWI are a bit wrong.

I have some British from the AWI which I haven't painted up as yet, not sure
what they could double for, but probably for the early period they may be
useful.

well that is what I have looked at so I
ordered some Sepoys and Madras/Bengal Native Infantry and some Matchlockmen
As well I have some unfinished Nap Brits with stovepipe shakos that I was going
to make into DutchBelgian Militia but I have a stack of Brunswickers that I can
use in that role so I will paint these guys and base with a similar scheme
also my Turk/Med Persian type cavalry will do for most of the Indian cavalry
types I think.

Cheers Mike

2009/11/20 Reinertsen, Jon <Jon.Reinertsen@...>

probably not, the basing is not critical and is very similar to what I use
anyway
SN uses a two stand unit is a brigade formation, aims higher than what I am
really looking at but sounds like it works well

Does this mean I have to start building yet another army?

I think that the relatively small size of battles is interesting compared to
the mega battles that we concentrate on in the European theatre, also there are
a few other troop types involved'

I have also ordered the Snappy Nappy rules, they seem quite interesting

   Cheers Mike

       Hi Dave,

yes I could but as you remember the old NWS went down that "Empire" route
before

also the flaws are my perceived flaws which differ from other players
perceptions
in the end it is better IMO to have a commonly agreed set that is used
world wide,
with the world championships being held in NZ in 2011 DBMM may be offered
the problem is that of the armies used on the weekend two stood out as
being very cost effective combinations, the trick was to win that encounter!

Anyway I am more interested in developing/playing Napoleonics
BTW I have just ordered a large number of subcontinent figures for that
period and have started on my Spanish army,

       Cheers Mike

Can't you come up with some in-house rules that take the perceived flaws

         hi Peter

This year for PB I ran Nikephorian Byzantines, I had a vague idea that
CvS and Reg Baggage was a good idea. My army had 2 almost identical commands
with 6 CvS and one LH plus a foot command with BwX and some Light troops plus
another small command of general plus a wedge KnX/I and 2 LH(S)

first game Peter Ware and his CACS regular CvS general version
I defended, Peter deployed first, then moved to gain the dominant
central hill, i won by concentrating 3 commands against his lowest pipping
command whilst screening his flank with the light Infantry and the BwX, I did
lose the CvS (blue) command 20/5 me

Second Game Geoff Tindall and Asiatic Early Successors, Geoff has
described this, CvS are too good vs Pike, Geoff was unable to make headway
whilst the BwX were too good for the Kn(F), the CvS were too good for his
mounted whilst the 5 PIP dice managed to get the Light Inf into the Elephants
22/3 me

Third game Richard Cleary, Early Byzantines, I was worried that I may
not be able to force a fight here with an enemy that outnumbered my Cv and had
KnF, I offered a weak flank and had a delayed command. The timing of the
arriving delayed command was just right and then Richard got some crappy PIP
dice, I lost the Blue command again but managed to break Richards army the next
turn. 20/5 to me

Fourth game Andrew Card, this was a difficult match up frontally for
Andrew and I was far enough ahead that even a losing draw would win me the comp,
he was forced to try to force the issue, I delayed on a flank with AxS and Ps in
difficut terrain whilst in the centre i waited for his Wb and PkF to come
forward, when they did the BwX shot up the Pk and the Cv killed Wb, at one stage
I had 4 CvS generals in close combat vs Wb, Andrews army was almost broken at
full time when he remembered that he had lost 2 Ps(I) killed when scouting, this
was just enough to break the army, great sportsmanship by Andrew as I had
forgotten the existance of the dead Ps(I) 22/3 me

all in all a great weekend gaming, I think thst DBMM is flawed, maybe a
new iteration will improve the game play.

         Cheers Mike

Well to start with I have to work out who I want to be don't I! A corrupt Mogul
lord, a Gin soaked company man, (I could probably manage that) or a disgraced
broken down Frenchman.

probably not, the basing is not critical and is very similar to what I use anyway
SN uses a two stand unit is a brigade formation, aims higher than what I am really looking at but sounds like it works well

I think that the relatively small size of battles is interesting  compared to the mega battles that we concentrate on in the European theatre, also there are a few other troop types involved'

I have also ordered the Snappy Nappy rules, they seem quite interesting

Hi Dave,

yes I could but as you remember the old NWS went down that "Empire" route before

also the flaws are my perceived flaws which differ from other players perceptions
in the end it is better IMO to have a commonly agreed set that is used world wide,
with the world championships being held in NZ in 2011 DBMM may be offered
the problem is that of the armies used on the weekend two stood out as being very cost effective combinations, the trick was to win that encounter!

hi Peter

This year for PB I ran Nikephorian Byzantines, I had a vague idea that CvS and Reg Baggage was a good idea. My army had 2 almost identical commands with 6 CvS and one LH plus a foot command with BwX and some Light troops plus another small command of general plus a wedge KnX/I and 2 LH(S)

first game Peter Ware and his CACS regular CvS general version
I defended, Peter deployed first, then moved to gain the dominant central hill, i won by concentrating 3 commands against his lowest pipping command whilst screening his flank with the light Infantry and the BwX, I did lose the CvS (blue) command 20/5 me

Second Game Geoff Tindall and Asiatic Early Successors, Geoff has described this, CvS are too good vs Pike, Geoff was unable to make headway whilst the BwX were too good for the Kn(F), the CvS were too good for his mounted whilst the 5 PIP dice managed to get the Light Inf into the Elephants 22/3 me

Third game Richard Cleary, Early Byzantines, I was worried that I may not be able to force a fight here with an enemy that outnumbered my Cv and had KnF, I offered a weak flank and had a delayed command. The timing of the arriving delayed command was just right and then Richard got some crappy PIP dice, I lost the Blue command again but managed to break Richards army the next turn. 20/5 to me

Fourth game Andrew Card, this was a difficult match up frontally for Andrew and I was far enough ahead that even a losing draw would win me the comp, he was forced to try to force the issue, I delayed on a flank with AxS and Ps in difficut terrain whilst in the centre i waited for his Wb and PkF to come forward, when they did the BwX shot up the Pk and the Cv killed Wb, at one stage I had 4 CvS generals in close combat vs Wb, Andrews army was almost broken at full time when he remembered that he had lost 2 Ps(I) killed when scouting, this was just enough to break the army, great sportsmanship by Andrew as I had forgotten the existance of the dead Ps(I) 22/3 me

all in all a great weekend gaming, I think thst DBMM is flawed, maybe a new iteration will improve the game play.

Cheers Mike

I've a good volume on Wellington in India,
I'll look up the author tonight.
You're welcome to borrow - it's a ripping yarn,

Dave,
Don't worry PB is on to it!!!

So far the changes proposed are a bit of a mixed bag. My Goths lose the regular baggage pip dump, my Tuetonic Kn (S) turn into DBE, but will ride over anything in their way. As will all 'S' type troops with a +2 when they score more in CC.

I've been experimenting with the help of Gil and Marcus with a different set called Impetus which has been going well. We are nearly ready to try the full rules.

Cheers Mike

Sharpe is roughly based on the historical facts and the John Company rules may give you some background. Want me to dig them out?

I think that the relatively small size of battles is interesting  compared to the mega battles that we concentrate on in the European theatre, also there are a few other troop types involved'

I have also ordered the Snappy Nappy rules, they seem quite interesting

So you are venturing to India for your Naps rules? Hmm, my John Company figures might need a revisit!

2009/11/20 The Walshes <mrwalsh@westnet.com.au>

Hi Dave,

yes I could but as you remember the old NWS went down that "Empire" route before

also the flaws are my perceived flaws which differ from other players perceptions
in the end it is better IMO to have a commonly agreed set that is used world wide,
with the world championships being held in NZ in 2011 DBMM may be offered
the problem is that of the armies used on the weekend two stood out as being very cost effective combinations, the trick was to win that encounter!

Anyway I am more interested in developing/playing Napoleonics
BTW I have just ordered a large number of subcontinent figures for that period and have started on my Spanish army,

Cheers Mike

Dave,
Don't worry PB is on to it!!!

So far the changes proposed are a bit of a mixed bag. My Goths lose the regular
baggage pip dump, my Tuetonic Kn (S) turn into DBE, but will ride over anything
in their way. As will all 'S' type troops with a +2 when they score more in CC.

I've been experimenting with the help of Gil and Marcus with a different set
called Impetus which has been going well. We are nearly ready to try the full
rules.
Jon

i won by concentrating 3 commands against his lowest pipping command whilst
screening his flank with the light Infantry and the BwX, I did lose the CvS
(blue) command 20/5 me

Second Game Geoff Tindall and Asiatic Early Successors, Geoff has described
this, CvS are too good vs Pike, Geoff was unable to make headway whilst the BwX
were too good for the Kn(F), the CvS were too good for his mounted whilst the 5
PIP dice managed to get the Light Inf into the Elephants 22/3 me

Third game Richard Cleary, Early Byzantines, I was worried that I may not be
able to force a fight here with an enemy that outnumbered my Cv and had KnF, I
offered a weak flank and had a delayed command. The timing of the arriving
delayed command was just right and then Richard got some crappy PIP dice, I lost
the Blue command again but managed to break Richards army the next turn. 20/5 to
me

Fourth game Andrew Card, this was a difficult match up frontally for Andrew and
I was far enough ahead that even a losing draw would win me the comp, he was
forced to try to force the issue, I delayed on a flank with AxS and Ps in
difficut terrain whilst in the centre i waited for his Wb and PkF to come
forward, when they did the BwX shot up the Pk and the Cv killed Wb, at one stage
I had 4 CvS generals in close combat vs Wb, Andrews army was almost broken at
full time when he remembered that he had lost 2 Ps(I) killed when scouting, this
was just enough to break the army, great sportsmanship by Andrew as I had
forgotten the existance of the dead Ps(I) 22/3 me

all in all a great weekend gaming, I think thst DBMM is flawed, maybe a new
iteration will improve the game play.

Cheers Mike
