That's probably the problem ... I'm guessing you don't have that folder? Do

Ill check that today, in the mean while the name of the fólder in
spanish ("Program Files") is "Archivos de programa". "My Documents" is
not translated so is the same folder.
I'll check for a registry entry today. Thanks Ross :)

Hi Ross i upload a small EVb project that demostrate how to read a
value from the registry, in this case it's this value:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\PMail\Attachments\TopDir

This is where the name for the "Program Files" folder is stored. I
tested it with my pocket pc 2002 (in spanish) and i got the correct
value i also tested it with the pocket pc 2002 emulator that comes
with the ppc 2002 sdk and it worked fine (that one is in english).

I hope this help, Thanks a lot Ross and keep up with your excelent
work.

Did you search the entire registry? I would like to find an entry that's
more "standard" ... that looks like it's tied to a particular mail
application. If that's part of the standard Pocket PC install, then that'll
work, but I have users that don't use Pocket PC 2002, and I don't want to
alienate them.

I'll check out the file you uploaded to the group when I get a chance,
maybe this weekend.

Thanks!

Hi again Ross, that registry entry is always present on a pocket pc 2002
distribution (I checked in several websites) but Im not sure if it's
present on pocketpc or other distributions, I think the way to go would
be place a different distribution and ask the users to test it, I for me
can check in another pocket pc (not 2002) ill tell you if the registry
key is there. By the way, I didn’t search the registry to find the key,
I searched google for information on how to get the "Program files"
folder name from eVB.

In other subject I just got the application running. I just created a
Program Files folder, moved the application, and changed the registry a
little and the symlink.

I noticed that there is bug with the skills; it seems to be adding wrong
rank + stat bonus. There is also a problem with the xml template and
version 4 of PCGen, it doesn’t display the AC information correctly.
I'll modify the template and upload it to the forums.

Take care, Mariano.

Yes, no problem. The skill appear as if the value was a concatenation
instead of a adding the values. For example

Wilderness lore Bonus = +72 where Ranks = 7 and ability bonus = 2
It is as if it was appending two strings instead of adding their integer
values... weird...

In only does it when I have ranks in that ability for example

Balance total -1 ranks 0.0 stat mod 4 misc -5

This one is fine 0 + 4 - 5 = -1

But this one

Listen total = 74 ranks 7 stat mod 2 misc 2

7 + 2 + 2 = 74 :)

it would be adding correctly stat mod and misc but then appending it to
the total value.

You don't have that problem?

Hi,

I just started using this program a few weeks ago and it is working
great on both my Casio EM 500 and a players Dell Axim Pocket PC's.

Is PCGScry still being actively worked on? I noticed that the last
release on the Metacraft site was well over a year ago. Is there a
newer release available elsewhere?

Will there be an update to the program to fix anything that changes
when the revised Core books are released? Maybe this won't be
necessary, but I'm really hoping that the answer is yes. Also,
please don't forget about us MIPS users if an update happens! :)

Does anyone know what program was used to convert the SRD .rtf files
into the XML files used with PCGScry? Many of the spells will change
(any many of them have already changed via errata) when the revised
Core books are released and I'd like to incorporate those fixes
directly from the SRD .rtf files if possible.

I just finished updating the XML template to work 100% with the
latest release of PCGen (4.3.10) and will upload it when I get home
from work tonight. I plan to continue updating the file as changes
are made to PCGen. I will use a naming convention that incorporates
the PCGen version to keep this from getting too confusing.

For example, the version that I will upload tonight will be called ...

csheet_pcgscry4310.xml

This is an extremely valuable tool and I'd hate to lose it when we
start using the revised books! Thanks for the excellent game tool!

I haven't worked on the program for quite a while. I wrote the program when
I started playing AD&D with a Sorcerer character, and that's what drove my
choices for features, etc. That's why some stuff isn't there, like
memorized spell tracking, and other non-sorcerer stuff.

Recently, that campaign ended, and now I'm playing Shadowrun. So, the
likelyhood of any further development in the near future is pretty slim.
However, I will still try to fix any bugs that crop up. The code seems
pretty stable though.

Hopefully it won't be necessary, but if it is, it depends on how much work
is involved. Since I'm not actively using the program right now, I have
little incentive to work on it. I don't want to completely abandon it, or
it's users though, so I would be willing to send the source code to anyone
that would like to work with it.

And it's also entirely possible that I will get back into active
development if I start playing AD&D again.

I actually didn't do any conversion of anything ... the xml files came from
the d20-xml project, which also has a group on Yahoo.

It is good to hear that you haven't completely abandoned the

several others that would too. I'm imagining something as big as
PCGen itself.
You didnt answered the emails that talked about this matter earlier
so i figured you might be reluctlant to let it go, i understand, it
was a lot of work. On the other hand it could take the proyect to
places never imagined ;).

You've done an EXCELENT job so far, I salute you :) and hope you'll
give a tought to this releasing the code idea.

Greeting, Mariano.

I would love to work with the source code as well. Has anyone looked
into uploading to sourceforge as PCGen is? Is the source code being
made openly available? Great work, hopefully you will feel that you
have left the program in very capable hands to help to continue and
advance PCGScry. Let me know your thoughts.

Perhaps! We'll see how much time I have. I was recently blessed with a
beautiful baby girl, so that's where most of my free time is spent these
days. :)

Hi Mariano, sorry I've been a bit out of touch lately. All my free time
lately has been devoted to my 1 month old daughter, Kayli. :)

I'll package up the source code and get it online soon. I'm glad there's
interest in working on it.

Thanks,
-Ross

I'm getting the following error when I try and open a file:

An error was encountered while running this program: Object
required: 'objXMLDoc.documentElement'

I'm running PCGen 5.1.6, with the latest export template posted on
this forum. Any suggestions?

Hi all ...

After the birth of my daughter (yay!) and the fact that I switched to
ShadowRun as my current RPG of choice, my interest in development of
PCGScry has waned. Recently, some folks have expressed interest in
continuing the development on their own. To that end, I've made the
latest version of the source code available for download:

http://www.metacraft.com/PCGScry/files/pcgscry_source.zip

It's kinda sparsely commented, and I'm sure there are some parts that
could be optimized or done better, but there it is. Feel free to do
whatever you like with it. My only request is that if you use my code
as the basis of your own program, please give credit where credit is
due, and drop me an email so I can check out your work.

Thanks, and enjoy!

The template is designed to work specifically with pcgen v5.0 and no
other version. i first tried it w/5.1.6 as well and found out that
the output XML document is badly formatted (open it with a browser
like IE and it'll spit the errors out at the top).
