Replaced by the 5.56mm C9 Minimi and is essentially the same weapon as the US M249 SAW. It was introduced not long after the Steyr IW if I remember correctly....

I'm pretty sure they come from Australia - where our Steyr rifles are manufactured . The Minimi accepts belt, box mag and Steyr rifle mag - neat weapon to fire...
