Comrades!
The Firebird has a special fondness for the excellent Continuum
gaming convention (http://www.continuum.uk.net/), at which Mythic
Russia was launched. This year's convention also will have its share
of Mythic Russian magic:
1. BIRCHBARK CHRONICLES
There will be a limited number of BBC1s available on the day, both
the colour and b&w versions. However, the numbers will be limited, so
if you want to be sure to pick one up then contact me in advance to
reserve a copy.
Get in touch and reserve a copy in the next 24 hours, and I'll knock
a pound off the cover price (normally £15 for colour, £9.99 for b&w).
No price discount beyond that, I'm afraid, but you do avoid postage
charges!
2. GAMES
I'll be running two games.
One, PARTY LIKE IT'S 1381 ("Living ice statues of swans and maidens!
Fountains of vodka! A whole troupe of dancing bears in Cossack
regalia! Nubile Lithuanian slavegirls and lissom Greek dancers,
Armenian fire-eaters and Sibiryak goose-dancers! Tables groaning with
delicacies from across the known world, even a Mongolian hotpot big
enough to drown a man and Italian sugar fancies!") will be an open
sign-up game on the Sunday.
The other, THE WARM-MEN, THE GOD'S BEARD AND THE FROST TSAR'S PLAN
(It starts as a simple trip with your patron to church, but in the
playtest game ended up with Kiev's largest cathedral gutted by fire,
a talking moose called Dangerous George, the lamest juggling in the
world and some inventive use of a god's beard-hair), will be a fund-
raiser for the con, with places auctioned. I think the organisers are
being flatteringly kind given that other such auction games are being
run by luminaries such as Greg Stafford and Charlie Krank, but it's a
nice thought, and if you have ten pence burning a hole in your
pocket, I'm sure you'll be able to get a place!
Also, Simon Phipp, who contributed much to BBC1, will be running a
Bashkort MR game, TAIGA, TAIGA, BURNING BRIGHT.
3. AUCTION
Again, as a con fundraiser I'm donating to the auction a 'Mythic
Russia starter bundle': one of my final stash of hardbacks, a colour
BBC1 and a book of Russian mythology.
All the best
Mark
