Hi there everyone,
I have done some more work on the game, though things were a little
harder to get working than I thought. I'm sure nobody has ever heard
that with software development before ;)
The PGN file reading and writing now works (almost completely) and I
am very close to releasing the beta for a couple players to try. I'll
probably just try to play a game against William first ;)
Pawn promotion doesn't quite work yet when reading/writing a PGN file,
but I can watch most of the recorded games. This should be the last
stumbling block prior to beta release. This may be a little
challenging so bear with me another week or two.
Players can still move to ANY square they want, during reguar play,
but I think that this can be changed during the beta testing stage and
players just need to be careful in the meantime.
I still haven't made new models of the pieces (so the knights still
look lumpy and hard to distinguish, as Bob pointed out) but that is
low on the priority list right now. You can actually see all the
pieces better when you are playing the game. I have adjusted the
lighting to help a little, as well.
I have tested the game on the following platforms:
MSWin (tested 2K and XP), Linux (tested Fedora Core 4,5) and Mac OS
X(tested 10.4). The Win2k machine I used was an old PIII-500 with an
old ATI card. Things were very slow but usable, so my lowest common
denominator target is this old machine. Any higher poly count and this
machine will not run the game.
Thanks,
K.Wilson
P.S. Hey Bob, I'm sorry about the last postings that had my name
listed as Dudley Hart....this yahoo account of mine is VERY old and I
didn't even remember that I put in a random alias when I opened the
account. My name is actually Kelly Wilson. I didn't mean to mislead
anyone ;)

verying interesting. My only suggestion would be that the pieces,
particularly the knights, needs a bit more clarity (i.e., they are
hard to distinguish).
