I may be mistaken about the title of the series. I think it was published in the UK as "Saxon Stories" and "Saxon Tales" in the U.S. I hope I did not cause

I haven't managed getting around to the Saxon Stories yet, but will keep my eyes peeled. Thanks for the tip. This sort of co-ordinated effort between soldiers

Those are good books with good descrptions of shieldwall combat. Most accounts of dark ages infantry melee combat I have read whether historical or in novels
