Welcome to the Masterclass Miniature Painter's Group. It is assumed that either
you have been invited here, you are an experienced painter, or at least on the
verge of expanding your skills to include some advanced painting techniques.

This group is not for new painters, as there are many other groups and forums
to help beginners learn the hobby, but for experienced painters, who want to
learn, study and compare their works with other great artists. If you are a new
painter, please try this group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mini-painter/
They are more than willing to help and have extensive archives of posts and
help topics :D

It is expected that work posted by you will be critiqued or commented on by
other group members, and not all comments will be flattering of course! The aim
of this group is to increase the skill and knowledge of the members.

Also, we run several online contests or friendly showings from time to time,
and all members are welcome to enter, or to vote in said events. However, they
are not the driving force behind the group, but are aimed at increasing
participation, sharing art and technique and having a little fun!

I hope you enjoy being a member, and if the group is not for you, please find a
more suitable one to help you out!

A note on bouncing e-mails: If your account is bouncing, I will remove you and
you must rejoin. The group is getting so large that I don't have the time to
send out reminders and such!

Thank you :)

Hey Everyone, I am sorry to have to post this but due to some staffing

Hey everyone I thought you might be in need of some information on
times for our big weekend.

The "Golden Gears" Painting Contest Sign in times are from 11AM to
12:30 on Saturday with a first cut happening at 1:30, a final cut at
3:30 than an awards program at 5PM with Pick Up right after unless we
need any additional pictures.

League Play on Saturday will have a sign up from 11AM to Noon. Play
will go on the top of every hour from Noon until 7PM with an awards
program following probably around 7:30PM.

Sunday's Steamroller event will have a sign in from 10AM to 11AM with
five rounds to follow. I see this ending around 6:30/7PM with awards
and clean up after.

I have seen the trophies and they are great. The painting trophies
are blue ribbon trophies with our logo in the center and the
Steamroller trophies are a golden laurel with our logo in them. These
and the prize support from Privateer are really going to make this
special! FYI we will be taking photographs all weekend for an after
report for No Quarter Magazine.

Games and Stuff East Coast Spectacular Update

With the WarMachine and Hordes East Coast Spectacular only two weeks
away, I wanted to update all of you on some changes to our pricing and
schedules, to make sure everyone is getting the most out of their weekend.

On Saturday June 21st we will be having our "Golden Gears"
WarMachine/Hordes Painting contest. The cost to enter will be $5.00
(US). With that entry a person can place one piece in each of the
following categories: Warjack/Warbeast, Warrior model, Battlegroup,
Unit, and Diorama. From the winners of these categories a Grandmaster
will be awarded. These rules are listed below.

Also on Saturday June 21st our WarMachine/Hordes League day will
occur. This $5.00 all day event will be all out caster kill games for
fun and prizes. The rules for that event are listed below.

Finally on Sunday June 22nd, we will have our East Coast Spectacular
Tournament. This event will cost $10.00 per entry and will be a
steamroller event (5 rounds, 750 points). We will be handing out
prizes for Best Painted Army, Best Sportsman, Best Warmaster, Player's
Choice, Best Tournament and more. Rules for this event are listed on
Privateer Press website or contact the Management of Games and Stuff
for additional information.

I want to thank all of you who have been so helpful in our process to
get these events up and running and I want to invite all of you in the
Virginia/DC/Maryland area to come by and enjoy our facilities while
getting some great game play in. Remember that space is limited for
our League Day and our East Coast Spectacular Tournament so please
give us a call and preregister. Thanks again and we will see you here!

Categories for Golden Gears Contest

Warjack/Warbeast
A single light or heavy Warjack or warbeast.

Warrior Model
A single trooper, solo, warlock, or warcaster.

Battlegroup
A warcaster and 2-5 warjacks or a warlock and 2-5 warbeasts. No
troops or solos.

Unit
A unit of at least the minimum number of allowed models and no more
than the maximum number of models allowed. Unit Attachments and
Special Weapon Attachments may be included.

Diorama
A scene of the Iron Kingdoms made up of components that do not exceed
12" wide, by 12" tall, by 12" deep.

Grandmaster will be selected from the winner of the above categories

Rules
• All entries must be Privateer Press models. Conversions and scratch
building is allowed but must fall within the scope and atmosphere of
the Iron Kingdoms game world and be either scratch built or made with
parts from Privateer Press models. No third party parts are permitted.
• All entries must be modeled and painted by the person entering. The
person entering must hand in the miniatures themselves at the
specified time. Entries must also be collected from the display case
at the specified time. Any entries not collected by the end of the
show automatically become the property of Privateer Press.
• All entries must be accompanied by the appropriate entry form. This
must be filled out correctly and cleanly. Competitors will be issued
a numbered ticket when they have handed in their miniatures. In order
to collect their miniatures at the end of the show, competitors must
present this ticket and valid ID in person.
• Competitors can only enter categories once, though they can enter as
many off the categories as they choose.
• All entries must be presented on the appropriate size base for which
the model was designed, but extra scenic details may be added.
• While every care possible will be taken with the entries, the
miniatures are entirely at the risk of the competitor. Games and
Stuff and its employees will not be responsible for any damage or loss
that might occur while the miniatures are in their care.
• Games and Stuff has the right to photograph the competition
submissions and to publish those photographs on the web or in print.

with or without cause. Games and Stuff employees and family are not
eligible to enter.
• All prizes are subject to all state, local, and federal laws.
• The judges' decisions are final in all cases.
• You may note that these rules and standards are identical to the
Privateer Press painting competition at Gencon. That is because the
kind folks at Privateer Press have worked hard on these rules and
standards and have been kind enough to allow us to use them. Any
positive aspects and applause should be given to them. Any negative
comments or `constructive criticism' should be given to the kind folks
at Games and Stuff (specifically Matthew). So there.

WarMachine/Hordes League Day

• The armies for this event will consist of 750 points. An army may
contain an Epic Warcaster/Warlock as available.
• Games will run for one hour or until a caster/lock kill. If a
caster/lock kill does not happen then the game will be awarded to the
player with the most victory points at the end of the round.
• Winners will be those with the highest caster kills. In the event
of a tie the awards will go to the players with the most victory
points. There will be a first, second and third prize for this event
plus others as Games and Stuff sees fit.
• This is a fun loose event and the participants should reflect that.
If you have any negative comments please feel free to direct them to
the management of Games and Stuff. Thank You.

This is a fan video showcasing some painted versions of sculpts by Bob
Ridolfi. Mr. Ridolfi (as most of you know) has been sculpting fantasy,
sci-fi, and horror miniatures for numerous mini manufacturers since
the 1970s, but is currently one of Reaper's top talents. He's known
for blending a bit of "spooky and creepy" into the putty of his greens.

If your YouYube screen offers the "play in high quality" option (just
under the playback 'monitor'), click that for tremendously sharper images.

The credits at the end of the video list the name of the mini-painters.

As lots of you know, ReaperCon 2008 opens this week in Denton, Texas,
USA. They always have world class painting and sculpting talent on
hand for their classes. This year is no different, and in fact Reaper
managed to snag Jeremie Bonamant Teboul, the painting genius and
Golden Demon zillion winner from France.

I've decide that miniature conventions should start producing
"trailers" -- as is done for movie blockbusters slated as coming
attractions.

Here's my rough idea of what a trailer for a mini convention might
look like.

Turn UP the volume, and click the "play at high quality" setting for
You Tube if your computer will support that.

Enjoy. <grin> :)

Games and Stuff's WarMachine/Hordes East Coast Spectacular

It's time to let you in on the coolest miniatures event on the east
coast this summer. This June 21st and 22nd, Games and Stuff will hold
its first all Privateer Press weekend event. This weekend promises to
be full of exciting game play, great contests, and interesting panels
all aimed at the great fans of WarMachine and Hordes.

Our major event this weekend will be a two day, 750 point
WarMachine/Hordes tournament. We are pulling all of the stops out
with this Steamroller tournament, including prizes for the top of each
faction, best painted army, best sportsman, best Warmaster (General),
Player's Choice, and Best of Tournament. We believe this tournament
will be one of the best on the east coast so you do not want to miss
it. This will also be a great way for you to see if your armies for
the Gen Con tournament will hold up against some of the best players
in the area.

Along side the tournament we will be having our "Golden Gears"
Painting Competition. This painting competition will allow those of
you with a more artistic flair to go all out. We will be following
the rules for the Privateer Press Gen Con painting contest so again
this will be a great way to get ready for Gen Con.

Other events we are planning will include a Speed Painting event each
day of the Spectacular, with prizes for those who can paint the best
model in two hours. Seminars will include topics such as
Modeling/Converting your miniatures, Selecting a Color
Theme/Composition for your army, and Display Boards/Terrain choices
for your army.

The tournament for this event will be limited to the first forty
people signed up so pre-registering is strongly encouraged. Each
tournament will cost $30.00 per person and that will include one free
entry into the painting contest. Tournament participants can enter
additional models into the contest at a cost of $5.00 per entry.
Individuals who are not participating in the tournaments can still
enter the painting contest, at a cost of $5.00 per entry. The Speed
Painting events and the seminars will be free and are a great way for
new fans of WarMachine and Hordes to see how they can get their armies
to that next level look.

So if you are new to miniatures gaming and want to learn more or are a
true miniature enthusiast, you should keep updated on this major event
at http://gamesandstuffonline.com/events.asp. There we will be
posting the rules for the tournament, the painting contest and more on
other events as we get the information. Hold on to your long coats
because this one will be big!

Dear All:

For my own use I created an excel spreadsheet listing some of the most
common miniatures brands used today, Reaper MSP, Citadel, Vallejo Game
Color, Formula P3. The list covers all of the paints and inks,
arranged by P/N, with Description, a Color Swatch, plus columns for
tracking inventory.

I thought I would share it with the folks on this list. I will take
requests for a future update with the following limitations; the paint
must be currently shipping and must be a brand specifically for
miniatures, i.e. not craft or standard painters acrylics/oils etc.

Enjoy

Regards,

Gunnar

The aim of this site is to showcase a simple, easy to view portfolio of my work.
It covers my
miniatures and my day job (design) separately.

I'd be grateful to anyone who can spare a few minutes to click around a bit.

Hi All,
After many hours at Dreamweaver 8 I've made a completely new website.
There are still things to add, but it is functional and working (as far as I can

both of which must be cut out by hand. Fiddly work, an dtime

transfers for Greeks. My customer is sending me some of the

Crude, but effective enough - When money allows I will get a macro

that camera equipment makes a real difference in the final
product...if the pics suck then it reflects on your sales.
