Although operating on 3'6" Standard Gauge, SAR locomotives put out power and performance comparable and sometimes exceeding those on broader gauges while operating in extreme conditions using poor quality fuel.
It takes a special breed of person to promote and support railways and their locomotives - it is a credit to the designers and a way of life full of special moments.
