most in the game area. did i miss something! has any one else had problems with

Just did it without problems... (if the level that's in the files section is the
unaltered version.) I did it by using the falling monks to get the three across
the top first, then got the one one the right last. The space under the gold on
the right is a hollow tile, allowing you to blast your way out.

I'll have to grab a screen image to show you, in my version when you can not get
to the ladder on the right.

I was thinking the other day what the maximum number of points one could
accumalate on a playable, solvable level. I came up with one with 1,780 points.
I could squeeze a few more pieces of gold on the board, but it would render it
unsolvable (or maybe even unplayable). Has anyone come up with more than that?

(I know... I have too much time on my hands...)

How about most gold / fewest points?  Runner up for most tedious.  (Could have used one monk)!

Has anyone been able to install LRO on Windows 7. I downloaded it from
daggert.net. When I run the setup program I receive a message that states:
"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're
running. Check you computer's system information to see whether you need an x86
(32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software
publisher."

I'm running it in compatibility mode. I've tried every mode going all the way
back to Windows 95. I'm practically foaming at the mouth to play the levels that
I created 15 years ago. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I just recently got Lode Runner Online working with music, which I like.

What I DON'T like is that I just discovered that for some reason, it seems
impossible to enter a new filename when saving a level group. In fact, you can't
enter a file name at all; you have to select an existing file.

I can think of one workaround: have an empty level group to copy, rename, and
save over every time I create a new level group. But it seems to me that there
must be a better solution. Does anyone know of a better way to fix this problem?

I just finished creating my Lode Runner fansite.

It has a blog, a forum, and downloads to Lode Runner: The Legend Returns and
Lode Runner Online. The forum also has a dedicated place for sharing levels.

I still don't have the full CD-ROM version of Lode Runner Online available. I've
searched everywhere and can't find it. If anyone has it, pretty please let me
know! :)

Suggestion:

The font is kinda hard to read on such a soft background, and I can barely read
it at all without highlighting everything. Mayhaps a slightly larger, more
thicker font is in order?

Alright, I changed the font color to a darker grey, and I increased the size from 11 to 12 font. I even made the titles larger and darker just for the heck of it.

How is it now?

well, for me installing LRO totaly failed on my laptop with vista. but i have a compaq presario that still works great and i installed it there. works (: then it works on my other computer running windows XP. but what i did at first is used floppy disks to copy each individual file from the LODERUNN directory (LR:TLR came installed as free software),  and then put them back together, and used a file splitter for the ones larger than 1.44 mb. i also managed to get the other games from there like Kings Quest VII and The Incredible Toon Machine that apparently came with the machine. or i have the cd-roms atleast. i freaked out though when i installed it because the directory for both games is exactly the same and i had installed over the original lode runner that was there and windows 95 or the installer, whichever one tells you, didnt alert me of that. but atleast i had a backup of it *whew*

I was able to install LRO on my Vista machine with no problems. You need to place a certain DLL in your Windows\System32 folder, but once you do that, it runs perfectly. Although, I have found that in Vista, creating new level groups is annoying due to Vista's file choosing interface, which doesn't let you enter the name of a file, requiring you to choose an existing file (which can be worked around by copying an existing level file and renaming it). But other than that, no problems.

yeah i said that in one of my other e-mails to idk who.. its DPLAY.DLL i believe. you just have to copy it from the install disc/folder to system32 folder. i haven't noticed that new level group thing so i'll have to check that out.

It has been a while since I stopped by here so I was surprised when I saw a link
to the LR:MMR installer I wrote many years ago. I noticed that a DLL is required
to get the game to run on Vista and Win7. I dug up the installer source code and
updated the package to include that DLL. Please download and test out the
updated installer.

I am not going to keep the installer up on my server for long so if the link
doesn't work let me know.

Hi,

I've tried both LR Online downloads [zip file and the mmrsetup.exe], yet I keep
getting DLL is missing. What if anything am I not doing correctly?

I've tried to use the DLL PLAY, but I'm unable to set it up to open in Lode
Runner Online.

Thank You.

Hi!

I am old school and always loved the ones for Apple 2 (Commodore 64 was good
too) including Championship one. I even made my own levels (sadly, don't have
them anymore) and got a certificate from Br0derbund's Championship version on my
Apple //c. I looked at the newer Lode Runner games (Windows, arcades, etc.), but
didn't like them much.

What about the rest of you? Thank you in advance. :)

Copy DPLAY.DLL (found in the DIRECTX directory of the CD) into your Windows\System folder (for 32-bit Windows, C:\Windows\System32).

Hi,

I've tried both LR Online downloads [zip file and the mmrsetup.exe], yet I keep getting DLL is missing. What if anything am I not doing correctly?

I've tried to use the DLL PLAY, but I'm unable to set it up to open in Lode Runner Online.

Thank You.

I noticed that a DLL is required to get the game to run on Vista and Win7. I dug up the installer source code and updated the package to include that DLL. Please download and test out the updated installer.

You need a telephone service obviously.

I grew up on the commodore 64 versions. Give me the original and championship for the c-64 and I'm good to go.

When I got my first Apple ][c clone, Lode Runner was the first game that I
bought for it. It was great fun and my sister and I even made a few levels for
it (although your guess is as good as mine as to where those level disks are
now). 9_9

I later gave Lode Runner: the Legend Returns a try but, although it had more
features, I couldn't really get into it. (I've never played Mad Monks' Revenge,
sadly).

And the only thing that kept me from enjoying Lode Runner 2 was its 'beat the
authors' time' requirement. (Who wants to be told 'Ha-ha, too slow!' 20-50 times
in a row?) 9_9

These days, despite its flaws, I still play the remake 'Apple Lode Runner' once
in a while. That's not to say that a modern version won't have a place in
today's market but (in my opinion, at least) it should include an emulated copy
of the (Apple II) original - if anything, it will show today's players what
their hyper-realistic titles evolved from.

(Then again, that can be said for a lot of classic titles) ^_^U

And, just so you know, I gave the indie title 'Retro Runner' a few plays as well
- although it has some good ideas under its proverbial belt, its control system
is based on a single-button version of the original game. I don't like being
critical of *anyone's* projects but I was left wondering as to how many other
(Apple II) players were able to adapt this system.

Perhaps, through my own shallowness, I am missing its true genius? ^_^U

Being born in '93, the first Lode Runner game I ever played was Lode Runner: The Legend Returns (though I just called it "Lode Runner") when I was 2 or 3. Besides that, I have played the NES version of Lode Runner, Lode Runner Online, KGoldrunner, and a Lode Runner-based game called XScavenger, as well as some Lode Runner game similar to LR:TLR and LRO. Out of those, I'd say my favorites are LRO and KGoldrunner, each for different reasons:

LRO has lots of stuff and great music. It's followed closely by TLR. It's easily my favorite, but KGoldrunner has a couple things LRO doesn't have:
1. "Hints" for each level
2. A taller playing field
3. A more retro feel
4. Special "KGoldrunner rules", which give the enemies a better AI, in addition to more traditional rules which have the stupid AI
5. You can put more than 10 enemies in a level
6. Names and descriptions for level sets

And also, KGoldrunner still lets you name your levels.

I was a big Lode Runner addict in sixth grade. I used to draw Lode Runner. :(
