I tried the compatibility layer and it doesn't work. So I went to the
Microsoft support site and searched for the error msg, and found out
that my autoexec.nt file was missing or corrupted. Once that's fixed,
everything works beautifully. Thank you very much!

Lode Runner Online. If you find a copy, there are
many FAQs online that tell you how to get it running
under NT+ (NT, 2000, XP). It's not to difficult and
the game is 100% playable.

If your still looking for a copy pf Lode runner you can find it at
either of these two sites:
http://www.the-underdogs.org/genre.php?offset=200&id=6&sort=name
or
http://loderunner.asylum1.com/html/general/main_test.htm
The second on has the mad monks revenge cd image. I try to run it
but it doesn't seem to run under XP. I get an error message that
Lode runner needs windows 95 or better but does not run under NT
So far I haven't found an FAQ that will help me out.

I had downloaded the CD image of Lode runner on-line from
http://loderunner.asylum1.com/html/general/main_test.htm and was
looking forward to playing lode runner after many years. I was
really disappointed that it didn't run on XP after installation and
thought it was a dead issue. I couldn't find any info on getting
this problem corrected until I came across your post here and
checked out your web page. I followed your instructions and now
Lode runner works like a charm. Thanks Austin

Heya! I was just browsing the message log to see if there was any
discussion of homemade levels, and I found people talking about a file
called OVRLODE2.pzl, but I didn't see it in the Files directory (or in
Jason's archive). Where do I find it (and others in the series)? I
want to try it out. :)

Hi again! A few years ago I uploaded a collection of my best level
files. I just realized that I've made one since then. It's called
Curiosities, and I'd love to get comments on it! (I joined this group
hoping to find some people whose levels I could play and discuss in
some silly detail.) I can also give hints if desired.
i got this stupid error message on my pc:(click the link below or copy
and paste it into your internet brouser)

i suspect it is because of norton anti-virus because that uses
symantec but i had uninstalled in and when i looked that folder wasn't
in C:/program files, can anyone help?

On Jason's site, you can find homemade puzzles at the following
location.
http://www.entropymine.com/jason/lr/pzl/
In particular, OVRLODE2.PZL can be downloaded from the following
location. Let me know if you can get past level 008 -- this one has
got me stumped!

My opinion is, why not begin at the beginning...play the original Lode Runner
(1983) on the Apple II system. Download M.E.S.S. or another software which
emulates the Apple II, then get the disk image for Lode Runner.
Then try Lode Runner Returns (1994). It is hard to get the MS-DOS version to
run on a modern PC, so download the Windows version instead.
I have run both of these programs on Windows 98 and XP without incident.
If you need more detailed information, email me.

Thanks! I hadn't realized it was made with TLR instead of MMR. I
love the Ovrlode levels! Is Mr. DeSelm active here? If not, I think
I'll e-mail him.

I was able to get past 1 through 7, but I'm in the same boat. That
piece of turf just isn't going away. I thought perhaps it was one of
those cases of using a tool when you're on the borderline between
squares, like where you use a pickaxe after taking a running start and
move one square out if you time it perfectly. (I figured that trick
out in a small set of homemade levels I found here years ago and have
used it now and then since in my own...and now here it is again in
some of the Ovrlodes.) So I tried igniting a bomb just an instant
after letting go of the bar. I tried it several times, but never
managed it, and it doesn't seem to be possible. So I don't know how
to do it.

I haven't seen Joel post here. I emailed him at the AOL address listed
in the text files included with the zip files. I posted part of his
reply in the following message.
http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/LodeRunner/message/973
He wasn't able to offer any suggestions other than to skip over the
level and not to get frustrated by it.

That was the only strategy I figured would work, but I agree with your
assessment: it doesn't seem possible. I've tried with both TLR
(patched and unpatched) and MMR, but to no avail.
I wrote the Hacker's Editor a while ago. Does anyone have any
questions, requests, or interested in the source code? The program
was one of my first Windows programs with it's associated learning
curve.
One easy thing you could do, requiring no updating of code, is to
attach a manifest file to the resoruce file of the application to gain
Windows XP style compatiblity. I tested it by opening the
application's resource file and placing the manifest in and it worked
great. That way it can conform a bit better to the many different
themes that are created for Windows XP. As for any other suggestions,
I don't really have any. You created a very cool, solid app.
Now if I could get my hands on the source code to the game... ;-)
Is this program for LR TLR/MMR or a different game? (Sorry I am on a Mac,
so I have not tried it).
I would be interested in having a copy of the source code if that is not too
much trouble. I could possibly port it to the Mac someday. (And I could
share some code for generating LodeRunner 2 levels if you were interested).
Thanks.

It's for Windows. Written with Visual C++ 5.0 and 6.0. I am not
sure how difficult it would be to port. One thing that I was
thinking of is an import / export feature. Then one could easily
write a level generator... I presume your level generator is for Mac?
The code has been uploaded; zipped with WinXP.

Jim

Source has been uploaded. I compiled it without
problems, so unless I have been hacking in my sleep
again, everything might work.
Best of Luck!

Yeah, I don't know how hard it would be either, but ... at least the code is
in C++ and not VB.

My level generator is written in ANSI C++ and should compile on any platform
as a console program. However, there could be endian issues when writing
the binary level files.
I will try to upload the code later. It is in a very early stage of
development but works for me. I should also be clear that it generates
random maze levels for Lode Runner 2 (the 1998 game from Presage and GT
Interactive?).

Ha, ha! At first I thought, "These green doors make these levels
really easy." It took me a while to clue in to the "wimp" message.
I thought levels 6, 12, and 22 were excellent puzzles. So I've been
able to finish all of them except levels 8, 10, 16, and 24. And now I
need some hints.
Level 8: My suspicion is that I get the gold and then (somehow) lure
the monk into the right chamber and walk on top of him all the way to
the ladder. Am I on the right track?
Level 10: I assume the level title is a clue. But I can't figure out
how to "break the chain" so that the big bomb doesn't explode, or if
that is even possible. Or do I have to get down to the bottom fast
enough to cross over the monk as he regenerates and get under the big
bomb before it explodes? But I can't figure out how to get through
that zig zag fast enough. Hint?
Level 16: I can figure out how to get into the transporter that is
hanging in mid-air. Not that it helps; by the time I get to it, at
least one of the monks is trapped where the exit appears. I've also
tried throwing the gloop over the left side of the platform to try and
slow down the lower monk over there, but it doesn't help. Hint?
Level 24: I can release the top and middle monk and run over one of
them to get the gold. Am I supposed to be able to release the bottom
monk as well?

Hi everyone,
I added a ZIP archive to the Files section which contains C++ source code
for two programs that create Lode Runner 2 levels (LR2_LevelGens.zip).
There are also some example levels showing the output of the programs.
Sorry that there are no binaries. I work on a Mac and could send Mac
binaries privately to anyone who wants them. Perhaps if there is a demand,
someone else will post Windows .EXEs.
Enjoy!

On Level 24, I figured out how to release the bottom monk and solved
the level. Still stymied by 8, 10, and 16.
