Living_Greyhawk Yahoogroup Mailing List FAQ
http://groups.yahoo.com/living_greyhawk

Section 0: Introduction and Credits DRAFT .9

1. Who wrote this?
This FAQ was written by Andrew Zorowitz with assistance from Mark Middleton.

2. Who runs the Living_Greyhawk list?
The Living_Greyhawk mailing list is operated by Mark Middleton with
assistance from the moderators: (insert moderators here)

The Circle of Six uses the list but does not manage it.

3. Who runs Living Greyhawk?
Living Greyhawk is run by the RPGA (www.wizards.com/rpga) and the Circle of Six,
along with many Regional Triad members, and other volunteers.

4. What is the RPGA?
The Role Playing Ganming Association is a division of Wizards of the Coast
responsible for running Roleplaying Games events.

Section 1: What is Living Greyhawk?

1. What is Living Greyhawk?
Living Greyhawk is a shared campaign world set in the World of Greyhawk
campaign setting, a mid-fantasy setting. Players from all around the world
are able to make a character and play them in events at conventions, game days
and in-home events anywhere, with a regional system to allow varied flavor
between different areas.

2. Who is the Circle of Six?
The Circle of Six, also occasionally called the Circle of Ultimate Doom, is
the organization that is responsible for the overall administration of the
Living Greyhawk campaign. The sixth circle member, SRM is responsible for the
overarching RPGA direction of the campaign.

3. What resources exist for living greyhawk players?
The major resource you need as a new player is a copy of the Living Greyhawk
Campaign Sourcebook, available in the files section of the Living_Greyhawk list.
Other useful resources are listed below in section 4.

4. What are regions?
Regions are the basis of the organization of Living Greyhawk. Each real part of
the world corresponds to an in-game region, which is run by a volunteer group
called a triad. Based on where in the real world you are, and where you are
willing to travel, you can experience a variety of different flavors of gaming,
corresponding to in-game areas. For example, the Keoland region, corresponding
to New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, is a very political kingdom, whereas
Veluna, corresponding to Ohio, is a Theocracy united under the diety Rao. LG has
used Regions for 4 years now and its clear that it will not be changed, so no
discussions are needed about why its flawed and why it should be dropped or
changed.

5. Grandfathering
LG does not grandfather PCs. If a feat, spell, Prestige class changes then
the PC must conform with the latest rules (per the LGCS). ANY questions
should be taken to the Triad in your state/country. Changes are allowed with the
Traid's permission.

6. How can I order and run Living Greyhawk events?
In order to order a Living Greyhawk module from the RPGA, you must be a
herald or higher level GM, which is accomplished by taking the GM Test on the
RPGA webpage. From there, in your personal login you can order events, both from
your region and metaregion and cores. Cores are available for download
immediately, whereas for Regionals and Metaregionals you will need to contact
your triad for the modules and ARs. Note that you need to schedule and order
events 2 weeks prior to the day of the event.

7. How can I run a Gameday or a Convention?
Gamedays are a single day event, generally open to the public, where you can
order and run up to 5 modules. They are listed on the RPGA calendar as gameday
events. Conventions are similar except that they generally run multiple days,
may have an interactive (a special one shot event provided by their regional
triad) and must have 25 or more tables run throughout the event.

8. At what point can I no longer play a module?
You may not play a module that you have: gained information about that could
spoil events in the module or that you have ordered for a homeplay event or that
you have ordered for a gameday or convention that has already passed.

9. What is an Interactive?
An interactive is a special one-shot event run at a regional convention that
allows you to affect the regional storyline. These might be LARPs, battles,
missions or something else entirely. They offer half-xp and half-gp (which
is decided based on your actual character level, rounded down, not on the
APL you play at) and some may offer favors, items and other things.

10. What is a core special?
Core specials are major exclusive events run at the Big 3 cons in the US and
at other cons worldwide. Generally there are three per year, one at Winter
Fantasy, one at Origins (which is later released for home-play) and one at
the two Gen Cons. Core specials offer often increased rewards and special
things in exchange for which they are significantly more difficult than a
traditional event, and cons that have specials give up their right to have
regional events.

Section 2: List Policies
1. This new document just came out, what do you think?
While we know that everyone is excited to talk about a brand new rules
document, there is a rule on the list designed to give people time to
actually read over and think about a new document before they post about it.
It works as follows: When a new document is posted, it cannot be discussed
until 9am the day after the next business day after it is released. So, for
example, if a new LGCS is released on Monday, the first time to discuss it
is 9am Wednesday. This doesn't apply to draft documents - those shouldn't be
discussed on the living_greyhawk list at all, but instead on the Draft
Discussion List.

2. Dead Horse Topics
Certain topics are not considered acceptable for discussion on the Living
Greyhawk list for various reasons. Here are the topics that are not
considered acceptable and why:
a. Real Life Religion - doesn't accomplish anything, just leads to arguments
and trolling.
b. Alignment Discussions - doesn't accomplish anything
c. Changing the regional structure
d. Making major changes in D&D 3.5 by adding a home campaign fix to Rules.

3. LG is better than\worse than something.
The list is not the place to discuss the relative merits of the Living
Greyhawk campaign compared to other campaigns and gaming environments.

4. "The Circle\Triad\Volunteers suck!"
All of these volunteers VOLUNTEER lots of their time towards the campaign.
While constructive discussion is useful and usually appreciated, insulting
the people who spend hundreds of hours letting you play in a free game is
not cool.

5. "Class\Alignment\Feat X sucks!"
This list is not the place to gripe about these things, which cannot be
changed by anyone involved in Living Greyhawk. Balance is done primarily by
Wizards of the Coast R&D.

6. When will this new book be added to Living Greyhawk?
The circle, as volunteers, almost never get books before they are released
to the public. As such, they need to get and review the book before they can
decide if it will be added to the game. Generally, the LGCS is updated twice
per year, and new books will be added to the options available to players at
that time, but exceptions might be made. Asking about it on the list doesn't
help.

Books Currently Waiting to be Added to the Campaign:
Complete Divine - June 15th, 2004

Books which we know will be added in the future:
Complete Arcane - date TBD (ie sometime AFTER its published)

7. When will this old book be added to Living Greyhawk?
Most books that have been out for a while and have not been added to the
campaign yet will not end up being added as options for players. Some of
these books have been discussed by the Circle at length, some are just
clearly not appropriate for LG. Asking about these books and begging for
them to be added is just an exercise in frustration for you and list
members.
Some books not usable in LG:
a. Book of Vile Darkness - not for heroic PCs, allowed for writers
b. Book of Exalted Deeds - either not for standard heroic PCs or
impossible to arbitrate in a living environment, allowed for writers.
c. Players Guide to Faerun - Forgotten Realms
d. Expanded Psionics HB - LG does not use Psionics for PCs.
e. Manual of the Planes - Not for PCs, although some parts may be used
by writers.
f. Any book from a NON WOTC company (even if its d20) - No book from a
non WOTC company will ever be used in LG.

Section 3: Rules questions that just wont die (this needs some work. Sadly
theres not much we can definitively say.)

1. Incorporeals and Arrows
After much discussion, the current conclusion is that Incorporeal can be hit
by arrows fired from magical bows.

2. Bucklers and two handed weapons
(hopefully we can hash this out)

Section 4: Other Resources

1. L-G Webpage
The LG webpage is http://www.living-greyhawk.com - it contains all of the
necessary information to play.

a. Diety Document -
http://www.living-greyhawk.com/Downloads/Living%20Greyhawk%20Deitires%201.3.
pdf

2. WOTC Web Site (a plethoria of documents)
a. D&D FAQ - http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/er/er20021018a
b. The RPGA part of the web site - http://www.wizards.com/rpga

3. Other Lists
Other lists that might provide additional useful information:
a. Infinite Monkeys - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Infinite_Monkeys
b. LGDMs - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LGDMs
c. LGwriters - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LGWriters
d. Your Regional List - look in the LGCS for the list for your region.
