Also being at the meeting, I interpreted Chris and Ian's response as
an attempt to categorise Greyhawk in the 'potential' basket,
alongside Darksun, Ravenloft etc.
Remember that the vast majority of people in attendance had just
finished playing in Greyhawk ten minutes beforehand, so it was
somewhat top of mind. :)
Also, given the hysteria that is generated from any off-hand remarks
by a WotC staff member (see ENWorld, the WotC boards), I can't blame
anyone for refusing to make defintive statements on subjects that are
not set in stone. I've seen a thread where the arguments essentially
boiled down to interpreting where a comma would be placed from a
spoken statement! (thus changing its meaning)
