I wanted to let everyone know that a new article by Julio M. Luqui Lagleyze and myself, entitled "The Flag of Argentina's 7th Infantry Regiment During the Wars of South American Independence, ca. 1813-1816" (say that one fast 3 times!!!) has just been published in the Summer 2011 edition of "Military Collector & Historian" magazine, the journal of the Company of Military Historians. It's a 6 page article that goes into great detail on the topic of Argentine regimental flags; the transition from Spanish to national emblems and design, the meaning of the various symbols, etc. all wrapped in the tale of a "forgotten" flag in Montevideo and Julio's research on it. The article includes 6 color photos and one uniform plate by the late Jorge Hector Fernandez Rivas.
You can order a copy from the website; http://www.military-historians.org/ or, better yet, become a member! If you join the Company, be sure to tell them John Fletcher recommended you and that you are interested in more articles on South American topics. As I have said before, it is a great organization and the journal alone is worth the price with all kinds of great articles. For example, this issue contains the following articles:
"Relics of Giron, Examining the Flags and Guidons of La Brigada de Asalto 2506" by Alejandro M. de Quesada
"42nd and 78th Highlander's Uniforms, 1759-1760" by Rene Chartrand
"A Cavalry Helmet to the 6th Canadian Cavalry Regt (Hussars)" by Clive Law
"'A tolerably decent appearance': the Clothing of the Continental Army at the New Windsor Cantonment, 1782-83" by Michael S. McGurty
"Civil War Vignettes on the 3rd New York Volunteer Cavalry and 29th Connecticut Volunteers (Colored)" by Anthony Gero
And on and on and on, a total of 25 articles in this issue alone.
