If you need to move towards a higher (but not high) tech setting then the Legends of the Old West from Warhammer Historical is a good basis. The points are based on small gangs (or posses) of models but they do include a good range of single shot or repeater guns. You would have extrapolate for automatic weapons.
There you go. Type in the appropriate stats and it spits out the points. Hope that helps,

Normal warriors would not have a A or W increase, but if you do add probably another 5pts. Add weapon costs as per the normal rules. You may need to modify the net result as a model may end up costing more than its actually worth. Also, for example, a rulesset that relies a lot more on shooting, maybe Sci-fi or WW2 for example, it may be prudent to increase the costs of the Shooting attribute.
For Heroes, add 1 to all the above stats (except shooting)and add 2M and 1 W&F; this will cost a basic 40pts, each stat increase or weapon will cost 5pts, add 10pts for each A or W increase.
Hope this helps, what rules are you interested
in?

Terry

I'm look for several period like "Prohibition", "Colonial" and if possible
a "Star wars" version of LOTR but i think it'll be a hard work for characters
charts.....

It may well do, its up to Yith and Mith, not sure that it has been
given a definate go ahead. We have looked at his rules so far but are
concerened about gameplay issues i.e. trebuchets firing every 4 turns,
and am awaiting as to whether these would be changed or not. Could
ask him to post them here for feedback?

Hey all. Hithero, is it true that TLA will be accepting a historical supplement
called Age of Trebuchets, covering Dark Ages and Medieval skirmished using the
LotR rules?
The author of the supplement told me so on The Miniatures Page, and I wanted to
see if he is correct (but since I can't access the Off-Topic Forum...you know).
There were only three of us this week and the combat rules worked
extremely well with 1 on 1's and a three-way melee, with a lot of
manouvreing involved. Have made a few changes; Courage tests will now
determine the the direction of pushbacks, the Courage stat has now
become important to prevent being pushed in a direction to be trapped
or into spiked posts etc. Some of the results on the injury chart
will change, but all in all the LOTR rules worked fantastic.
But, the betting rules completely failed and will need a complete
change, if anybody has a simple solution please post. The risk of
losing and amount to win somehow needs to be related to the points
cost of the Gladiator.
Cheers
Dave

Hello from France,
I like the idea of this group to use LOTR version for other purpose !
Does any one can give some ideas to build character in the LOTR way
(points system, character caracteristics, etc...) as guide lines.
How to give a point value for a hero etc.....
thank you for your help
Frenchy Eric
Great idea for the varinat rules group! I'm going to try & do a
pirates adaptation for all those drunken captains, idealistic
blacksmiths & undead pirates milling around waiting for a decent game
system.
Mind you, it might take me several months, so if anyone else comes up
with any ideas first... please feel free to post 'em ;-)
Norberto
OK, sounds good. Hope the game goes well. Give us a report when it's done, as
it's the Gladiator rules I'm most interested in, and I'd love to see them
prettied up:)
I'll be playing Gladiator tomorrow to see if the rule amendments
work (I know the card initiative system does as I use that in
multiplayer cowboys)and if successful will expand the rules and make
it look pretty :)

Boy thanks, the WW2 rules look great (they all do).
One thing I'd like to see is an addition to the LotR Gladiator rules, with rules
for animal vs. human and animal vs. animal battles. Also, clarifications on the
different classes of gladiator and their equipment would be nice. I'm familiar
with the different types of Gladiator, but others might not be.
For the Samurai, a Mongol Invasion add-on would be cool, as would rules covering
the Three Kingdoms period in ancient China. But that might be too much work for
one man:)
One other thing I'd like would be battle reports for these variants, so people
could see just what these genres offer.
Thanks again for reading, and great work!
Hello Hithero. I've been wanting to see these files, but now that they're
available, I can't download them. Do you think you could put then on your site
for us?
I have now uploaded three files to play the Pacific War. We had some
great games using these rules, but may not make much sense to the
casual viewer as most of it was in me 'ead while playing. Included
though are the profiles, equipement and weapon charts and tables.
If you have any questions then please ask.
Basically the Katana can be used 2-handed and gain a +1S for doing
so, this is different from a 2-handed weapon which also comes with
a -1 to win the fight modifier. A Samurai would generally use both
hands all the time, but may suffer an arm injury which would prevent
this or even fight dual-armed.
In LOTR a player with a shield may elect to defend which is
called 'shielding' and doubles his Attack dice, but cannot 'strike
to wound' if he wins. Elven spears also have this ability.

Hello,
I heard from this group in the LOTOW Group. Your group seems to be a
group I searched for. I planned to adopt LotR Rules to some periods I
am interested. One of this are Samurai. I had adopted the
Volley&Bayonet historical rules for Samurai battles 1550 - 1615 some
years ago. You can read about it on my German / English webpage
http://www.elb-kendo-und-zinnfigur.de/Zinnfigur/index.htm . ( I hope
it is okay at this group to designate other webpages).
I had wrote something about LotR for Samurai but the rules here are
better. Two questions: The rules stats that´s the Katana get +1 S
when using both hands (I had the idea to use the elb blade rules).
What does means 2 hands? Is there a reason not to use both hands? Then
the author says the Spear can shield. What does this mean?
Please execuse any English errors which is it my own language.
Werner G. Elb alias Samurai Elb ( Elb is indeed my real name )
Yes I play LOTOW but I think that for the ACW we need appropriate list.

Thanks, I've got them downloaded and they look good. My wife asked what I was printing, sighed and muttered about another period that I'll be buying figs for. HAHA little does she know that it's three!

Hi, I'm amazed it's taken this long for someone to have this idea! I've
been thinking for a while about using LOTR as a ruleset for dark age
gaming, especially C7th British conflicts, but I'll be very interested
to see what everyone else comes up with!

Hello all,
It seems as though the group has reached its download limit. Don't know how
long it'll be
'til it gets reset, but it may be best for someone with a fast connection to
email the files to
anyone who wants them until it recovers.

LOL, everybody is new to this group, only started it today :)
The Hundred years war would be pretty easy to do as all the weapons
and armour just fall straight into it without any mods.
Have you tried Legends Of The Old West, these are an amalgamation of
LOTR and Mordhiem and would work well for the American Civil War.

Hi all,
I am new to this group.
There is any prevision about a variant for the Hundred Years War or
Medieval period and one for the American civil war?
Thank you for any reply.
