Just playtested a Vietnam variant at my club tonight. The rules worked
really well.

Once I have re-typed the amendments if there is interest I will post
in the files section.

OK I've posted the rules on the files page.

As an added BONUS I've also added the scenario we playtested the rules
with.

Looks good. Could you drop in rules for making up "squads", as per your
morale rules? Thanks

Matt,

The easy way to do this is to roll a D12 for each member in the squad.
A typical tour of duty was 12 months so:

1-4 = FNG
5-8 = Experienced
9-12 = Veteran

However, during the war there in reality it depended on the unit (e.g.
all LRRPs tended to veterans) and the year of operations. When there
was more experienced men around you could roll 2D6.

Or if you want a balance have 25% of the squad as FNG, 50% as
Experienced and 25% Veterans.

I could write this in to the rules if it is thought necessary

Pete

Dear all,

I want to update Age of the Trebuchet.
Please can you post your feedback or if it is a large comment, save a
file of your suggested improvements. I will of course credit the names
of contributers.

Any stats need changing?
Additional rules?

Best regards

I'd like to see some rules for including musicians.  I haven't been able to playtest them, but I was thinking that as long as the musician is within two inches (I don't know the cm) a leaders "With me!" and "Standfast" distance could be doubled.

Hi Mick,
you asked for comments & suggestions for Age of the Trebuchet, here
are some things I noticed while reading/playing.

In the shooting chart there seems to be an error, sometimes
10 paces equal one inch, sometimes 5 paces.

Army lists:
I would rename some of the troop types:
Vikings (basically the names used in WAB: Shieldwall):
Huscarls should be Hirdmen,Berserkers could be Ulfhednar (those in
Wolfskins at least).
Saxons:
Bondi should be Ceorls or Thegns for the better armed & armoured ones.
Normans:
Heavy Infantry should be Serjeants, I think the Turcopoles are
misspelled.

In the Warriors of the Medieval period there are some inconsistencies
in the defence stat. I am not sure if this is intended, but some
types without any armour or shield are D 4 instead of D 3. They are
the Horse Archer and the Light Inf 800-1300. You coulf argue that
the horse archers is very mobile and harder to hit, but this is
questionable for the light inf.

From a play balance point of view i think that some of the equipment
in the Warriors and Army Builder sections should be more expensive.
The Two handed Weapons, Longbow, Crossbow and Lance should all cost
around one point more than now.

In the Army Builder appendix i would add some skills/restrictions
like mounted archer or english/welsh archer. You already use these
restrictions in the Warriors section, the Army builder should have
something similar to prevent unhistorical troops.

For larger battles (20+ minis) i treat horse and rider as only one
mini (i use the riders stats), this speeds up play and eliminates the
need for a dismounted version of your minis. The current version is
fine for Warbands or Legends of the old West type games. i am toying
with the idea to do something similar with Age of the Trebuchet, but
there is never enough time for all the projects :-)

I really like your work with AotT, it works fine with medieval
skirmishes. Keep up the good work!

Dear "gaiushoratius"

You are correct about shooting, there are some errors which need
correcting. Your Army List changes are good suggestions and I will
incorporate them. Horse archers should be D3. I will have to look
at defence for light infantry as that is the first time I have heard
that comment.

Points values for weapons are based on the LOTR RotK rulebook. I
will go back and check again for mistakes.

I will look again at the army builder section. There was a very good
article on The last alliance which gave optimised 500 point armies
for Mordor, Gondor, Rohan etc. I was thinking of trying to do
something similar for historical armies but it may cause more
problems than benefits.

Dear "Sam Fradsham"
There are rules for banners and war horns in the main rule book. I
will look at them to see if I can make some musicians rules.

Thank-you for your suggestions.
I will incorporate them into the next version.

Best Regards

Mick

For costing things, you could do worse than try the LOTR cost calculator.
Type it into google, and you should find it easily enough. It's a great
little webpage, very useful for making your own stats - but not as
up-to-date as it could be... All the same, it'll do most of the legwork for
you.

If it's "Predators" you want, in 25/28mm, you could do far worse than Ground
Zero Games' hunter alien chappies. They're about £1 each, in their Stargrunt
range, about 1/2 the price of Copplestone's ones. There are fewer of them,
but they look much more how I imagine the Predator/s.

LOTRvariants,

I am almost finished, just fine tweaking the stats really, should be completed
this week

So far I have got facehuggers, drone's, the royal guard, the Queen, predators
and the colonial marines. I may add a mini campaign similar to LV426 with
marines investigating a colony complex

What minis are you using, the old Leading Edge line? I would love to have lots of Marines, aliens and a few predators, with a colony complex to game in. I have a dream...

LOTRvariants,

I am almost finished, just fine tweaking the stats really, should be completed this week

So far I have got facehuggers, drone's, the royal guard, the Queen, predators and the colonial marines. I may add a mini campaign similar to LV426 with marines investigating a colony complex

Pete Jones

LOTRvariants,

I have Leading Edge Marines and Aliens. The Predators are Copplestone Castings
which I've had Pro Painted (they look awesome) and I have some clear ones that
were produced by Ainsty Castings for when they are camouflaged.
