Hello,
Here is the beauty of LOTE. Everyone has their own goals.
There are statistics out there to be sure.
Just as there are in various sports. That does not always show the
true value of what you were attempting to do with the position you
were playing in my opinion. I think every position has its ups and
downs. My goal with any campaign I play in is to have fun, if the
game is no longer fun then for the sake of the campaign and myself its
best to move on or there will certainly be one less LOTE player out there.
In 28: DV I agree with Ben he has done a excellent job with a lot of
action at all times.
Matthew T in 31 I think it was did a fine job not being destroyed by
the numerous attacks it seemed like very turn.
Charles H, Gary and I in L27 had a Persian Steamroller going for years
through good and bad times. Fun stuff.
In 54 Scott S. ran the Airnim Horde (bad spelling here) to the point
where it scared people. That was pretty cool to see and be part of
even if I was one of those scared, lol.
After playing in at least 20 campaigns I'm sure I'm forgetting people
and situations.
A few interesting things I've done in LOTE games for whatever its
worth. This sort of follows in with Ben and Matthew since I've played
in games with them and have seen some of the damage or interesting
things first hand.
Survived - in the original L17 I think it was I should not have
survived nor should anyone have probably in that situation. I was on
the southern tip of Great Britain and it was my first LOTE game. I
secret DP'd Ireland and got an influx of resources to pour into the
defenses otherwise I would have died for sure. Probably 90% luck, 10%
skill but still it got me addicted to LOTE.
When Religious Orders came out I was excited to work with them and had
to rebuild orders twice in L91. The Knights of Toth. In L27 I had to
rebuild the Farohars of Ahura Mazda at least 3 times. Its amazing how
much you learn about various economics and the abilities of Primates,
RO's, etc. A record, probably not but I didnt quit either and could
have every time it was required to reconstruct the positions.
Another new rule implemented where I learned a lesson. I tried to
Migrate to Spain in one game (I think it was 17 or 19) and got lost
destroying the Viking / Norwegian / Swedish position I had at the
time. Ticked me off but certainly won't try to sail outside of the
known sea zones from now on. Learned about Migration thats for sure.
There were about 5-10 of us trying to create a League of Nations
though which was pretty interesting.
In the 28DV campaign I thought it was a fairly clever stroke of the
house rules to launch an attack on the Almorovids and survive. Being
the only one with a unique religion, converting from one organized
religion to another and fighting all at once is interesting. We shall
see where that goes but it was a fairly unique moment in LOTE from my
perspective as it would not have taken a huge amount to actually
destroy the position, something I've never done before. Not a
weakling either but a decent sized neighboring state. If nothing else
I got more peace proposals and email about what I should do or not do
in one turn than I have in years of other games.
Finally I am very excited to be a part of the Fantasy LOTE campaigns
and those that are offshoots from the main theme. I have liked every
alternative campaign. Some have lasted years, some only a couple
turns. CD, 91 multiple times, the one based on the Sword books by
Frank Saberhagen I thought was cool I think Matthew ran that, the
Lords 28 DV Campaign has a excellent set of House Rules, 52 was cool
on its unique world and then the test with the space stuff was fun as
well. But in my mind 54 Theeurth Campaign is in the top 3 LOTE
campaigns I've played in ever be it Fantasy or Normal. Its wonderful
and Scott deserves some praise for making it work. More recently
joined in L4 and thats interesting so far. And yes . . I'm happy to
contribute with L51 at the time and look forward to GM'ing that again
at some point.
See you in a campaign!
