Patriot Games Huddersfield is delighted to announce that, as part of
SQCon, we will be running a Legend of the Five Rings CCG Winner's
Choice tournament on Sunday February 8th. Information about the
Winner's Choice format, including which choices are still available,
is at the end of this post.

The tournament will be held in store at Patriot Games, with sign in
between 10.00 and 11.00, and the first round beginning at 11.00. The
format will be Samurai-Legal Constructed, with Glory of the Empire
NOT legal for this event. However, it is worth noting that the
rulebook change to Kensei WILL be in effect for this event. We will
run five rounds of Swiss cutting to a top eight.

Entrance for this event is free to anyone attending SQCon, or £5 to
anyone who is not. We have a limit of forty players: please contact
us and preregister to secure your place! Please note that precedence
will be given to those players attending SQCon, so please specify if
you'll be at SQCon when preregistering.

More details on SQCon can be found here:

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Thanks,
Mark

Winner's Choice: Season 2
A Tournament Format for the
Legend of the Five Rings CCG

The Winner's Choice tournament format for the L5R CCG has been in
place for a couple of years now, and so far it's been a great
success. Quite a few stories have been generated by the menu of
choices provided to winners at a Winner's Choice event, and its
general flexibility has allowed the format to be used in a wider
variety of events, from sealed deck and draft tournaments at major
conventions to local area tournaments held at individual gaming
stores. Now it's time for something a little different, however!

The second season of the Winner's Choice format has begun. This
season, however, the choices are entirely different: ten unique
flavour traits will be up for grabs for the winners of individual
events! Each time a Winner's Choice tournament is held, the winner
may select one of the flavour traits listed below, which will then
appear on a personality card aligned to the faction used in the
tournament in a future expansion. The Story Team will also entertain
requests for the names of the personalities on which these traits
appear, but we can't promise we'll use them. (We get some pretty
strange requests, after all.) Also, during this season, when a
flavour trait has been chosen by a winner, it will be removed from
the list. When the list of available traits dwindles down to only a
few left, we will refresh it with all new flavour trait options for
the next season. The first batch of flavour traits up for grabs this
season includes:

Blade of Vengeance – What dark acts will this samurai have committed,
what wrongs to his clan will he have avenged, in order to have gained
such a sinister pseudonym?

Drunken Master – With martial arts on the rise as a leisure pursuit
of samurai (primarily due to the Kumitae and related tournaments),
who will rise to the fore with this bizarre fighting style?

Justicar – The Justicars are a unique sect of magistrates who hunt
down fugitives and duel them to the death in order to prove their
guilt and punish their crimes at the same time.

Kabuki Master – The art of kabuki is greatly prized in high society,
and none are more adept at the art than this personality!

Vigilant – Ever cautious, ever aware, the Vigilant seek to thwart the
schemes of the Kolat at every turn, and work toward the destruction
of that nefarious organization.

Villain – Who doesn't love to root for the villain?
