The Moonsea is a cold and desolate region, in heart as in body; the fog-cloaked land is mostly empty, monster-haunted wilderness, with the occasional city-state struggling for survival along the coast. The land is rich, but few enclaves survive the onslaught of the beasts for long, and the people are hard and cold.

The crowded city of Melvaunt is one that has prospered; renowned for its weaponry and armor, it lies beneath a cloud of brownish-gray, its foundries belching smoke into the stinking air as caravans crowd the streets and ships crowd the harbor. Ringed by two walls that protect the slate-roofed stone houses, the merchant port of the Moonsea is steeped in danger and intrigue.
