Bruce Wigdor's Carthage defeated Steve Worrel's Romans by resignation with two card plays left. Province count was 11-7.
Bruce wins series, 2-1.
My luck was excellent this game, with Philip of Macedon and Syracuse on Turn 1, and multiple Messinger Intercepted plays later.
Due to the Turn 1 events, Hannibal waited until turn 2 to cross. He basically sat in Gallia Cisalpinia for the first few turns. Meanwhile Hasdrubal landed in Sicilia and took it over.
Rome was down on provinces, and needed PCs, so Nero sailed to Masillia to convert and isolate the Carthage PCs that were in the region. With the island of Sicilia under control but requiring Hasdrubal's garrison, I decided it was a good time to send Hannibal back to Spain, attacking Nero on the way.
The attack on Nero worked out well, but then it was Turn 6, and Scipio A was on board. He chased Hannibal in Nice, but I succeeded in avoiding battle (my intercept and avoid rolls were as good as my strategy cards) and making it back to Spain.
At that point, Rome swarmed en masse to Sicilia, but Hasdrubal was victorious in most of his battles, including a victory over Nero that knocked him off Syracuse with only one more siege point needed. Scipio A sacrificed himself to get Nero one more die roll before that battle, but Nero failed the siege roll.
At the end, Marcellus and others once again swarmed Sicilia, and succeeded in sieging Syracuse, but while that was happening I was able to take Corsica/Sardinia, and with the help of the Adriatic Pirates, Bruttium.
What a war--Steve fights to the bitter end, and he is amazingly resourceful.
