I am sorry to report that the 2009 Internet Empire of the Sun league is being cancelled.
The first and foremost reason for this is that the program is simply not ready to support competitive pay. There are still far too many errors. No one is playing, and the few people who have are dissatisfied to the point where two peole have dropped.
I apologize for the program's shortcomings. The feedback that I had received led me to believe that the program was more accurate than was the case. Hopefully it will be better in the future, and we can resurrect the league in a more successful fashion.
Thanks everyone for participating and trying!
Sincerely,
Bruce Wigdor

Ingo Perings's Japanese defeated Bruce Wigdor's Allies on time violation, close to the end of the game.
It was my first game of EOTS, and Ingo really pounded me. Inexperience was bad enough, but he cancelled 5 of my activations with 4(!) weather cards and some other activation cancel card. I basically watched helplessly as he surrounded and eliminated my foces in Northern India.
VPs were at Japanese +14 when my time ran out with just a few card plays left.

I thought I had submitted this for 10/14/08, but does not look like it made it through.
Matt won on time expiration.
We continued the match after time expiration, doing the whole thing in two sessions. End times were Japan: 2h46m59s and Allies: 2h51m49s. Admittedly, the pace was not as brisk (at least for me) after the time limit had expired.
We had several issues which we reported to Bruce, which I hope to see fixed in future versions of the software.

We continued the match after time expiration, doing the whole thing in
two sessions. End times were Japan: 2h46m59s and Allies: 2h51m49s.
Admittedly, the pace was not as brisk (at least for me) after the time
limit had expired.
We had several issues which we reported to Bruce, which I hope to see
fixed in future versions of the software.

I have decided to make some changes in the league format. This is very unusual for me; I normally wouldn't do this in the middle of a season, but I think it is necessary.
I am extending the league's time limit to 1 1/2 hours per player, for a total of 3 hours. There are a few reasons for doing this, but the first and foremost is the IEOTS program itself; it's getting better, but there are still problems. I can't expect people to take note of mistakes in the program if the time limit is so demanding. I also can't expect people to play so quickly if they need to double check everything the program is doing.
To allow for this increase in time per game, I am cutting the schedule to 12 games, which will result in a pace of 1 game every 3 weeks. Check the league webpage for all relevant schedule changes. The bottom line is that everyone had 4 games eliminated from their scehdule, all against people who they were originally scheduled to play twice.
Also, the league finals will be reduced from a best 3 out of 5 to a best two out of 3.
Because of the slow start, I am pushing the entire timetable of the league back as if it were starting today. The game between Antero and Jussi counts, as does a game that Darren was playing (was the result ever reported? If so, I don't have it). So in order to be on schedule, everyone should have at least one game played by November 30th.
Please let me know if you have any questions about this. Let's start playing and having some fun!

Anyone fancy an iEOTS League game in an
hour’s time (8 p.m. UK time, 3 p.m. ET)? Let me know…
Cheers,
Darren
