Shem-Zhe is one of many children of the Unicorn samurai who died during

battle at Oblivion's Gate. When Horiuchi Shoan returned from the battle
alive and well, she adopted Shem-Zhe and others and raised them. In
gratitude to their okasan's protection, Shem-Zhe and the others were
allowed to adopt Shoan's honorary name. Toturi, in recognition of Shoan's
selfless devotion, even made the name (which had heretofore simply been
an
extension of the Iuchi name granted by Shinjo Yokatsu) an official
Horiuchi
name. The Horiuchi are a very small family, but they are dedicated to
upholding the name of their adopted mother.

She retired, and is alive and well. She now tends the Four Temples of
Kyuden Seppun.

The name looks Chinese to me, but L5R is also supposed to have some
Korean and other Asian influences.

Thankfully your success (and anyones else's) was not imperative to the
survival of the Horiuchi line. I would like to congratulate you for doing
so well at the tournament. You do this group honor with your efforts, as
do any who fight for the Horiuchi and for Shoan. My only regret was that
I couldn't make it to either of the two semi-near me. If I had known
about these events earlier, I may have been able to scrape up the money
and time off to make it to the Iowa and Michigan RSTs. Sadly, saving
money for school, paying rent, and having a new car loan to pay off kept
me from them. If they ever do this sort of thing again, I'll do my best
to make it to one or two. Until then, keep hope alive - the Horiuchi will
live on!

Well yeah, I never saw a single card in his fate deck, seriously, besides the ones he discarded, it was pure murder. Well, I am considering trying something new now that I have achieved heights with my favorite clan. We'll have to see.
I feel slightly resonsible for this as the winner of the RST, yet not the one to defeat Ray. As a Phoenix player I stuck to my clan and went with what I thought was right. The tournament is up on deathseeker

The Storyteller (Ree) had a stack of personalities. Whenever a shadowlands
horde or ninja player won, they picked one at random and corrupted them or
killed them. Whenever someone beat a shadowlands or ninja player, they got to
pick one and save them. Shoan was in there. If she was saved, Ree said, the
Horiuchi would be seen again. Someone picked Shoan, and all joyously now,
there will be more Horiuchi!

I will be there, Honored Horiuchi Daiymo. Originally, I had planned to turn
my back to my clan, The Naga, and play unicorn (and jump on the 'bandwagon'
it's called?) but I have seen the error of my ways. Unfortuneately, Shoan is
of limited use to the naga, and she is very persistent about her soul. She
doesn't want to put it in the akasha. I am sorry, MeiMei-sama, I cannot. But

Yes then he'll summon me and my crab weapons deck and
once again have that huge battle of two decks that
have a rivalry stemming back to there creation,
although yours seems to mine more often because Kisada
isn't immune to shiryo no tadaka or shurin storms at
the ossari plains, damn you.
