Well, my reply seems to have gotten lost int he shuffle, so here it is again (my appologies for the lateness of my reply)
He only need be of low rank, so no advanced gear, some what less advanced stats (but still a touch better then standard marines). It is so much better to earn these through adversity then to start with them (IMO).
Still looking for a few more good marines (two more should do),
