Logic means it belongs in the Digest, not here? Hilarious Jeff!

If BHT ate thousands of sentient beings per year, they, not the
Lunar Empire, would be the hated evil enemy of the Heortlings.

Hi friends

I'm very happy to announce that the second issue of the Glorantha Comic from
Krasmanski/Ortiz are available now. We have made once again a full coloured
print. The story of the "Path of the Damned" goes further on now. The comic
is very good made and funny to read, with an Eurmal duel and initiation and
an Orlanthi/lunar street fight in Jonstown.

Furthermore Moon Rites will be ready for sent out in the next few days. You
should order this fundraiser for the Glorantha Con VIII to give support to
the organisers and you will getting an excellent book of lunare lore written
by a lot of named authors and collected and edited by John Hughes.

All can be ordered at www.Tradetalk.de at sales - secure order.

Cheers

I also checked the Runequest Daily which is where it should be but it looks
like that section of the Daily is missing. I found references to it and
think I know where it should be but there's parts of that Daily missing.

I've been playing around with ideas for a Troll demon-cult. (I'd originally
thought of it as a mystic path, but mysticism's been kicked down the road
some...) anyway, I'd definitely like to help out.

Maybe it can be symbolic?

"Of course we feed human flesh to our demon steeds! Well, actually we
take a sack of oats, dress it up in human clothing and the liturgist
casts a Transubstantiation blessing* on it, but that turns the oats
into human flesh! Really! Yes I know they still look like oats, but
that's because you're not looking at them with the proper magical
sight!"

Feeding the horses _actual_ human flesh would, in this case, be a very
rare, unusual, Heroquesty thing to do.

Yeah, I think we've got to think laterally about this.

While Fortunate Succession p.93 is unclear as to exactly when
stirrups were introduced (probably post-Dawn), it is clear that they
exist in Glorantha.

(The big technology that doesn't exist in Glorantha is the stern
rudder. No ship has anything better than a steering oar.)

Peter's reference to "Dunbadal stood in his stirrups" may be an
indication that stirrups come from the West, but it could be an
anachronism. (Is there another reference to the Western origin?) In
any case, I suspect stirrups are widespread, and if anyone doesn't
use them, it's for mythic reasons (perhaps the Galanini of Ralios
don't).

In fact, the Black Horse Troop might not use them because they don't
ride horses, and the steeds might object.

Friends,

>From whence this assumption of 3500 Black Horse troopers?
If it is based on WB&RM (or DP) unit counters then it's wrong. These
counters are not 500 riders each, but each unit is the equivalent of 500
men. I'd say there are probably no more than 100 each.
As far as diet, yea, they eat people. Not our good Atroxic people, but
slaves, captives, invaders and anyone else what we want to eat from far
afield.
And they eat cows, deer, demons, things from the Otherworlds as well. Oh
yea, and their own riders if they are desperate.

Don't think these are big horses with riders. They are demons that defy
known rules of logic and fantasy both!

And let us just thank Atrox for the bounty that the farmers get.

Well, it would have been nice to have been corrected back when I wrote the
bit in HW that people are quoting...

(HW 94 & 96 is where the 3500 figure comes up)

Best wishes to everyone on the list for Sacred Time and the New Year.

2003 is the Year of the Empire. Let's party!

To start the celebrations, we expect Moon Rites back from the printers any
day now.

Like a Crimson Bat with a bad case of the munchies, Moon Rites is seventy
two pages of Lunar myth and mystery.

Focusing on the Empire and its subjugation of the barbarian nations of the
extremity, Moon Rites features articles, fiction, scenarios and artwork from
some of Glorantha's most talented explorers and shapers.

You can learn much more about Moon Rites at

http://home.iprimus.com.au/pipnjim/moonrites/

Moon Rites is a fundraiser for Gloranthacon VII, and has been produced in
conjunction with the Chaos Society, proud publishers of Trade Talk and other
fine Gloranthan works.

Pre-order copies of Moon Rites are available for $13 USD or $21 CDN. If you
preorder, we will pay postage and handling for all North American orders.
The print run for Moon Rites is strictly limited, so place your order now!

(Of course 1625 *isn't* such a good year for the Empire. But that's a whole
other book...)

Since the steeds are Darkness creatures the problem may be less in
finding adequate food (they may eat almost anything) than in keeping
control of their appetites - and in keeping up morale while the
steeds are restricted to less tasty foodstuffs.

I want to come to Tentacles this year but don't want to take advantage of

I like my theory that they only need to eat after great exertion (say, a
battle, or a long hell-ride), and that there is a "no prisoners, don't even
bother to ask what we did with them" clause in all Sir E's mercenary
contracts...
