Aim for a convenient break-point in the story. Try to do this every 3-4
'scenes'. Of course, this may vary, but the general rules are the same
as tabletop imo.

All the best,

I was wondering when people are awarding HPs in PBEM games. Its obivious
when a session ends in a table top game so an award can be made but at
what point do you decide for PBEM? I'm thinking once an

Last week I ran a game of HQ which was notable for me in a few regards.

Notably, it was my first experience with the new rules, and I ran the game
completely off the cuff, with no prep, and only the barest idea of a setting
beforehand.

Very interesting experiment, and one which I hope to do again soon.

For those interested, I posted about it on my LJ:
http://zomben2.livejournal.com/18165.html

Don't want to duplicate the posting here, because it's rather large. I'd be
curious to hear the thoughts of anyone interested in reading the whole thing,
however.

My wife and I did this as a session at Glorantha Con IV (Chicago con, maybe it
was not IV?), but it was all home brew. Basically, we called it "How Lake Day
Came to Be" and it involved some teens heroquesting to refresh/recreate a lake
because the area was dry. The lake had appeared when Jack cut down the bean
stalk and the giant smashed into the ground. Anyway, the post you linked to is
much better adapted to Glorantha. We were pretty much setting free and (as
usual) played it for yucks - multiple pals passed the "Jack Hat" to see which
one the Hero plane entities would see as Jack. The goose with the golden eggs
was noisy, the magic harp was a flirty/vain airhead, etc.

I was looking for this last month, but couldn't find it - then I discovered
Yahoo Groups' search doesn't look at anythiong after March 2009!
I looked at Jack & The Beanstalk as a Heroquest back on the Old Gloranthan
Digest a few years back when we were discussing turning Stories into adventures.
Rather than repost the whole thing here, I'll just give the URL to the message
in the Archive

It's still on topic for this group (although obviously was written before the
advent of HQ2), so I'd be happy to discuss it here if anyone has any comments...

Issue three is now available at http://ruleonemagazine.com/

In this issue, we present not one, not two, but three contest results! Matthew
Cole's Chaos Feature competition from January 2009, and Ian Cooper's Sartar,
Kingdom of Heroes Character and Feat contests from December, 2009.

We also have a look at the hexads of Kralorela, a First Age story by Greg
Stafford, a FAQ for issue 2's Peloria boardgame modification, and an Ogre cult
from Carmania by Roderick Robertson.

All,

I was the guy who slapped this thing together, so thought I should clarify a few
things.

First off, it was intended to be used with one of those vinyl customizable GM
screens (ala: http://www.frpgames.com/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=8992). As
such, it has sections which the GM can scrawl notes on with a wipe-off marker
during session use. I've not actually used it in play yet, so not sure how
useful that will be.

I just wanted to clarify that this series of GM screen panels doesn't include
-all- the tables from the game, just the ones most likely to need to be
referenced during a session. It doesn't have things like the "Pyrrhic VIctory"
table, as that doesn't come up that often.

Also, includes a grid for tracking the Pass/Fail cycle, and boxes for tracking
successes of the Extended Contests.

Hope you enjoy it! Feedback welcome!

Right, I'm not actually planning to set base resistances at 194.

In fact, I'm going to discuss carefully with my players if I even want to have
this idea of an evolving base resistance in the game. My games tend to develop
slowly, with many sessions between opportunities to spend points to advance.
We've joked many times that the true manifestation for the wyter of the Rass
Heroes should be their dining hall's main table, where they often spend an
entire session discussing, arguing, planning and telling the trickster to shut
up about how big his penis is.

While the numbers may not be quite right, I think they're actually
better than HQ1, as you can simply stroll in your t-shirt to the top
of Kero Fin with numbers like those...

Needless to say, I'm sure you'll be using the advice at the end of p.

Sounds similar to my situation. I have been running a game for my kids for the
last 6 years.

Since the kids haven't been that focused on playing as opposed to socialising
:-)) I had the same problem, until I realised that the base resistance of 14 is
roughly the average skill of a brand new character. So now I translated their
sheets in to HQ2, which mostly involved stripping out skills that they hadn't
spend any points on. Then I averaged all the skills to work out the base
resistance :-)) Only tested it in a couple of sessions now but looks OK to me.

This was all made easier because I have all the character sheets in word files,
so a quick copy and paste into excel means the averages can be quickly
calculated.

Clearly my situation is an outlier. In fact, I'm quite proud of being so.

I began The Rass Campaign in the year 2000. Until this summer when job changes
caused our first serious hiatus, I have run the campaign pretty consistently,
most Mondays, since then.

Now "most" works out roughly to 40 out of 52 weeks, between holidays, scheduling
conflicts and occasional forays into other games. In fact, one side game ran for
about a year, so really, I've been running the Rass Campaign for only about 9
years.

9 x 40 = 360 sessions, roughly.

So, as I switch to HQ v2, looks like I need to set the base resistance to 14 +
(360/2) = 194 which is 14W9.

:D

Now, at the first great climax of the campaign, where the Babeester Gori Berserk
acting as the Axe of Pavis fought the manifest Temple HIll Zorak Zoran temple
backed by the Champion and many of the Rubble's communities, her target number
got up to about 12W7 if I recall.

Could be a rough time as they begin to fight in the Battle of Iceland!

(Yes, I'm being silly here.)

On
p286 in the descriptions of the front cover artwork. The description of
