This is worth a separate message.
Shohei Ogawa, one of our bright young lights and one of the most polite
15-year-olds you will ever meet, won the Bill Manekas Living Memorial Quad
outright, with 2 points out of 3 games.
This despite being the lowest-rated and least experienced player in the quad.
Shohei scored a huge upset over the always-dangerous Al Walters in the first
round. From that point on there was no stopping him.
Perspective: I started to play rated chess at 15; I did not win a tournament of
any kind for several years.
Perhaps Shohei took inspiration from Hikaru Nakamura, who won the U.S. Chess
Championship on Sunday. Hikaru played in Hackettstown (not on Monday nights,
though) as a lad, long before he became a Grandmaster.

Well done, young man.
