Welcome to AxeCon 2007!
November 9, 10 and 11!

The Crusade Marches on to Axeport! Will we reclaim this valuable port
and cut off Old Wicked’s forces from the Nyr Dyv, or perish in the
maddening melee that will surely erupt.

Available for gaming will be TWO Shield Lands regional module
premieres, the Minnesota premieres of several Core modules, replays of
all available regional and metaregional adventures, and a new
Interactive!

NEW SHIELD LANDS MODULES! NEW INTERACTIVE! RECLAIM AXEPORT!

=== PREMIERES ===
SHL7-07 Rights and Wrongs (Living Greyhawk - D&D)
By By Jeremy Vosberg. After a turbulent year of challenges, the people
of the Shield Lands have met the threats of outside forces bent on
their destruction, from agents of the Old One to foul cultists of dark
powers, guided to security by the actions of the Council of Lords and
the newly established Council of Inquisition. The events of the past
year, however, have brought a great amount of change to the Shield
Lands, and not all welcomed, however. A one-round Shield Lands Regional
adventure set in Critwall and its environs for APLs 4 -12

SHL7-09 Home Sweet Home (Living Greyhawk - D&D)
By By Zac Wendler. There’s no rest for either the righteous or the
wicked, it seems. General At-Ur Rehmat is up to something in his
stronghold at Axeport, and a lucky chance has revealed his plans to the
highest ranks of the Standing Army of the Shield Lands. Can you turn
tragedy into opportunity for your country? A one-round Shield Lands
regional adventure set on Walworth Isle for APLs 2–12

Minnesota Convention Premieres

IUZ7-04 Blue with Envy (APL 4-10) (Living Greyhawk - D&D)
By By Casey Brown.. Draconic cults stir in the north, their reach and
power becoming more powerful by the day. A concerned Gildor Arcanix,
confused by recent divination answers, has once more called upon you to
help find out just what these chromatic cults are up to. This time, the
signs point to the dead Tangles Forest. At the same time, the Old Faith
needs to learn more about how Boneheart Cranzer killed the forest.
Perhaps you can kill two birds with one stone. A one-round Iuz’s Border
States Metaregional adventure set in the decimated Tangles Forest in
the Combination of Free Lords for APLs 4-10. This is Part Two of the
Seeker of the Flesh Series and is a loose sequel to BDK4-06 Scales and
Secrets, Iuz6-02 Blue Scales, Red Secrets, and BDK6-07 Love Letter. PCs
that have earned the favor of Gildor Arcanix, the Old Faith Druids, the
Kingdom of Johrase or the clergy of St. Cuthbert are encouraged to play
this adventure. Having at least one wilderness-oriented PC at the table
will prove beneficial.

IUZ7-05 Know Thy Enemy (APL 6-12) (Living Greyhawk - D&D)
By By Todd Ammerman and Joe Cirillo. The Drinkers of the Cup of
Midnight, in an attempt to prevent history from repeating itself, have
decided that turnabout is definitely fair play. To that end, the Shade
wants to learn of the Old One's darkest secrets behind his recent
machinations - she asks you to infiltrate a religious center of the Old
One himself. Iuz's Border States Metaregional adventure set in Shield
Lands. Warning: This adventure is role-playing intensive and is set in
locations and presents situations that may be extremely dangerous for
paladins, clerics of good-aligned deities, and any good (particularly
devout) PCs in general. There are definite repercussions for these
types of PCs. In addition, this adventure contains many situations that
may be gruesome or inappropriate for less-mature audiences.

IUZ7-07 Any Means (APL 8-14) (Living Greyhawk - D&D)
By By Gary Affeldt. Contacted by the Shade, the mysterious and
beautiful leader of the Drinkers of the Cup of Midnight, you agree to
undertake a mission to retrieve the Draco Mystere, a legendary book of
lore regarding dragonkind. The book is located in the Howling Hills,
deep inside Iuz’s evil lands. Discover the secrets it reveals. A
one-round Iuz's Border States Metaregional adventure set in the Howling
Hills and the Crystalmist Mountains for APL 8-14

COR7-15 Taking Flight (APL 10-14) (Living Greyhawk - D&D)
By William Muench and Shawn Merwin. The primordial force known as The
Serpent grows stronger, longing to regain the power it lost to the gods
at the beginning of time. At the center of its plans are a young Flan
girl, preternaturally gifted in the arcane arts; an honorable kobold
following his destiny; and a group of adventurers willing to brave the
infernal wastes to end the threat. A combat-intensive, one-round Core
adventure set in the Burneal Forest, Greyhawk City, and the plane of
Avernus for characters levels 9-15 (APLs 10-14). This is the final
adventure in the Windows to the Serpent's Soul series, comprising
COR4-01 Shedding Scales, COR5-07 Clipping Wings, and COR6-08 Catching
Breath.

COR7-17 Rivalry and Treachery (Living Greyhawk - D&D)
By Rene Ayala. In the City of Greyhawk, the Royal Opera House and the
Grand Theatre are well-known rivals and, on occasion, scathing
accusations are followed by open-street brawls. In continued disrepair,
the opera house anticipates a new production will keep its doors open
permanently. That is, until the Royal begins to experience a series of
unfortunate events. The cause is none other than its rival bent on
treachery. As the curtain rises and Act One sets in motion insults,
street fights, and a dagger in the back is just the beginning. A
one-round Core adventure set in the Garden Quarter in the City of
Greyhawk for characters levels 1-11 (APLs 2-8).

COR7-18 Through the Mist (Living Greyhawk - D&D)
By Sampo Haarlaa. A call for help sends a group of strangers into a
trackless swamp to look for a captured child with a familiar name.

CORS7-02 Rise of the Spider Queen (APL 2-14) (Living Greyhawk - D&D)
By By Creighton Broadhurst and Colleen Simpson. Sterich is once more in
need of heroes to stand between it and the rising tide of darkness.
Humanoid and giant raids boiling out of the Crystalmist Mountains are
again increasing in frequency and boldness. Rumors swirling thickly
through Istivin's shadowed streets speak of the malevolent Spider Queen
and her resurgent interest in the sunlit lands of the Flanaess. This
adventure is divided into low (APLs 2-8)and high (APLs 10-14) levels of
play; a player may only play one of them.

Interlude: The Dead
By Joe Masden

NOW

The Warrior was sitting at the dining table, in a hall of obsidian
and bone. He was waiting in a chair next to the empty seat at the
head of the table. Their Leader. He had hopes, but he was keeping
them to himself. Others sat in the rest of the chairs. No laughter,
no jokes. Just anguish. And hatred. These warriors knew each
other, though a few could be considered missing. The Warrior was
observing those at the table, alert for verbal intonation and the
slightest nuance of movement that would betray their motives and
expose their deceit. He noted with some disdain that most were no
longer capable of simple duplicity.

Mandibles were clicking absently across the table. The Brute
slouching in the chair across from the Warrior was drooling through
his slack lips. Rolls of fat had taken the Brute's form, and his
already dull wits had been further damaged. He seemed to notice the
inspection of the Warrior, and his bloated, blackened head rose. The
gaze of the Brute's multi-faceted eyes immediately dropped to the
floor, retreating before the scrutiny of the swirling silvery eyes of
the Warrior. The corpulent creature nervously twisted his gnarled
hands across the grip of his blackened greatclub.

The Warrior's silvery glare was moving to other targets. A familiar
target he had known briefly from…before. Smaller, stockier, and
wearing better weapons and armor. The Soldier. His morningstar and
shield were held in his hands. They had all learned to be armed at
all times, and to never sheath a weapon. One of the first lessons
they had learned under the tutelage of Lord Raum and his minions.
Mandibles corrupted the Soldier's face too, but there was no touch of
idiocy to his features. The Warrior noticed a helmet on the Soldier,
welded in place. The helmet would only come off if the head came
with it. As before, the Soldier did not shy away from the Warrior's
gaze. But where there was once honor and pride, this one's movements
now revealed only hopelessness and loathing.

Before he could examine the others sitting at the table, the door to
the chamber opened. All of the assembled monstrosities jumped to
their feet, armed and hostile.

The Warrior was not surprised to see another familiar face, this one
also twisted and corrupt. He did find it surprising that the face
was less twisted than the rest of them, yet the original features
looked even more demonic than any other in the room. The Warrior was
concealing both his surprise and irritation at learning that this was
the Leader he would now be expected to now serve. The Warrior had
known it would not be his former king, but this was not his
preference. The others in the room were nodding in recognition and
acceptance. The Warrior was already feigning the acceptance.

Slowly, the Leader strode across the room. He was standing at the
edge of the table, his wings convulsing with furious energy. In one
hand he was holding a rolled parchment. In another he was holding an
adamantine maul that all present recognized. In another hand was a
twisted, dripping horn. The other hand was flexing in barely
restrained rage.

Without speaking, the parchment was rolled out on the table. The
Warrior recognized the parchment and a series of small holes that had
burned into the paper where caustic droplets of blood had spilled on
it a lifetime ago.

All of them stood transfixed by the detailed maps spread out before
them. Most of them knew where the maps meant. These maps, this city.

This is where they died.

Only the Brute was not showing a glimmer of recognition. He was
staring dully at the squares and lines on the large parchment, unable
to make sense of what had been explained to him once before, so long
ago. But somewhere inside his tortured, idiot brain, he heard a word
from the Leader that set his brain on fire. He began screaming the
word in rage, hefting his greatclub. He was screaming as he smashed
the chairs. He screamed the word as he smashed a hole in the wall of
stone. He screamed as he shattered the table with his greatclub, his
oversized mandibles clacking in rage. All present were just watching
the rage. The Warrior was reluctantly impressed with the Brute's
newfound strength. He was even more impressed when the Leader
reached forth and caught the Brute's greatclub in one of his horned
hands. The Warrior's expression betrayed nothing.

The Brute was glaring through hazy eyes at the Leader who patiently
held his greatclub in a vice-like grip.

The madness in the Brute's eyes was reflecting back in the Leader's
calmer stare, "Yes Barld, yes."

"Tyv!"

Hey all,

I'm building a character design for my Syrloch Wizard
and I was wondering a few things:

1. What are the official colors of the Gran March and
of Syrloch?

2. Is there any official uniform for Syrloch Wizards?
For military Wizards?

3. Are there any specific guidelines as far as
regalia, unit patches, etc. that aught to be worn by
Syrloch Wizards serving in the Gran March military?

4. Where can I find pictures of the Syrloch and Gran
March emblems? I thought I had found them before
once, but I can't seem to relocate them...at least not
very quickly.

5. Can I find the answers to all of these questions in
the Military and/or Sylroch documents and I'm just
wasting your time?

Thanks!

Luke

Interlude: Evolution

By Joe Masden
GRM7-IN4 By Right of Conquest

NOT LONG AGO

The vulture-demon pounced from the rocks overhead, and slammed down
onto him, trying to bear him to the ground. He reached up in
surprise, got a hand around its long neck and tried to push the ogre-
sized demon away from him. The pummel of huge feathers slammed
around him, drowning out all other sound as it pulled up its clawed
feet to dig into his exposed torso. Its beak punched holes into his
shoulder as steel claws sank deeply into his bowels, tearing out
reeking gobbets of his guts. A flailing whirlwind of feathers and
razor claws, the demon shrieked in victory as it spilled his entrails
to the dusty sand. Enduring the fatal assault, he stretched his arms
out wide and drove his horned fingers into the demon with reckless
fury, once, twice, three times. On the second slashing blow, the
demon's wing cracked and gave way, dropping the fiend from the air.
On the third blow, its chest collapsed, crushed even as it was being
sliced open. He held his fourth blow, looming over the demon that
had shrieked in victory moments before. He stood victorious, blood
from his shredded gut soaking the demon beneath his feet.

The vulture-headed demon tried to crawl away. He stood his ground,
watching it pull slowly away. Its clawed feet scrabbled along the
ground, slipping across his torn innards. He did not smash the fiend
as it pulled away, preferring instead to let it crawl. It rose
slowly, and tried to limp away. He watched it go, enjoying the
throbbing pain in his eviscerated torso. Even as his bleeding slowed
and stopped, the demon's bleeding increased. Moments later, he stood
whole as the demon collapsed, dead.

He looked toward the gray tower. There were still many demons
between him and the tower. He took a few feathers as proof, added
them to the bag, and continued his journey. In the distance, he
caught the sight of a massive frog-like fiend tormenting something.
Unarmed and unarmored, he walked that direction.

Kneeling at the foot of the huge throne, he made his offering to his
new lord. The wolf-headed monstrosity looked approvingly at the
collection of bloody trophies oozing from the bag at the foot of the
throne. The gathered nycaloths and mezzoloths murmured among
themselves as the feathers, tusks and horns spilled out.

Lord Raum nodded approval. "You have spent time on the Plain. Have
you regained that which was lost?" The bowed head nodded once. "And
you have done as I commanded. And you have learned much of your new
position. And for once in your existence, you have obeyed without
question." Effortless. No argument.

"Rise. And drink." The behemoth offered a great, twisted drinking
horn filled with thick, sloshing liquid.

Rising, he took the offered horn. Bringing it close, he immediately
froze. Inside the horn was a thick, clear liquid. The vapors burned
the air around them. The sweet stench of acid triggered a survival
instinct in him that came before birth. He froze. Sensing his
rebellion, Lord Raum smiled. For a minute, the horn didn't move.

"I have commanded you to drink."

He stood, holding the horn of liquid that burned his eyes. Defeat
and acid. One fear was born of pride, the other was born into his
blood. Fear always became anger. A hall full of fiends watched, and
he would not be weak. Better death than defeat in weakness.

He closed his eyes, braced for the grisly death, and swallowed the
viscous acid in the horn, glaring hatred at Raum as he dropped the
horn to the ground. The acid usually took a few seconds to burn. He
considered dying in combat.

There was pain. Discomfort, really. There were no stabbing claws of
agony.

A joke. An illusion. There was no acid. A test.

He noticed the acid that had spilled from the horn he had dropped.
Acid that was eating the soft stone he was standing on. His eyes
narrowed in understanding.

"I have told you. You have been improved."

"Yes, Lord Raum."

The behemoth smiled. Evil, wicked, brutal. Master.

The behemoth rose and all fiends took one shuffling step back. Lord
Raum reached into a pouch at his side. "By word of Master Vigilant
Marax, loyalty is to be rewarded, when it shows itself." His hand
came out, holding something between his fingers. In the fiend's
fingers, it looked tiny, a child's toy.

His eyes lit up with hunger. He had thought it lost. The maul. His
maul. His again. He passed it between his great horned fists,
remembering the pain and glory.

"You will find that it too, has been improved."

Both monsters smiled, and other fiends slipped quietly from the room,
before the monster with the maul had a chance to celebrate the
reunion.

Right now the plan is to have GRM 8-2 (name unknown; but since the SO is due
today, I should know the name soon) Premier at EconoCon.

IIRC: GRM 8-3 and 8-4 are at RoundCon and GRM 8-5 and 8-6 "Quorem" are at

Any other questions?

I've answered him.

It warms my heart that so many people took the option. I didn't
figure many would. Some year 8 games should be very interesting for
those tables.

Apologies for not getting to this sooner, I've been a wee bit busy (&
ran a playtest of GRM 7-9 Saturday).

The number of games and interactives are fixed for the final year 8
of the campaign. There are a few stories and plot items that if we
wanted to have them occur had to be released in December without an
attached convention to premier. So GRM 7-9, GRM 7IS-2, and GRM 7-IN5
will be "premiering" in late December without a convention. The
conventions in January will be the first conventions to have a chance
to offer it. [If anyone is interested is playtesting GRM 7-IN5 or
GRM 7IS2, let me know; probably ready for playtest in November]

--

We were able to get a 9th regional this year for efforts of authors
and myself in getting the mods to the Circle in correct timely
fashion. Normally we would get it in year 8, but year 8 has a
restricted number of mods. So we (we/us is the Triad) learned of a
9th mod late this year. One of the mods that we had to cut from year
8 became the new 9th year 7, and it had to be a single mod, not a
series, and push foward the plot lines we need to finish. GRM 7-9
The Lost and the Found is related to the Outsiders In series and is
part of the Homefront series, and it is APL 2-8.

--

GRM 7-IS2 is the Intro mod "Surrounded" (I made an error on the
original designation SP is special mission, IS is intro special;
sorry). [GRM 7-IS1 was "Inauspicious" and premiered at DragonCon.]

--

A region is normally allowed all the interactives it wants to put
out, it is just in a normal year only 4 can have item access. GRM 7-
IN5 "Hammerstrike" is what was to be called in year 8 and 9, an I-
missions interactive. It is not an item-access interactive, but it
advances the plot. There will also be an optional section so
conventions could run it as non-interactive as normal table event
(still no item access, and interactive experience). So it could be
run for several months after it first plays as something a con could
offer for a table or two if people wanted to play it. A present plan
GRM 7-IN5 has two tracks; a Cavalry track and an Infantry track; it
is an APL 2-8 interactive. Who knows if both tracks will get ready
in time. Those of you who can see the pattern might have an
explanation of why.

--

In year 8 we are only allowed two item-access interactives and two
non-item access interactives. GRM 8-IN1 tentatively called "Barrier"
will premier at Stellar Con (IIRC), along with GRM 8-1 "Consequences."

Tenatively the other interactives will be at RoundCon, ConCarolinas,
and one will be released without a convention the end of June (for
the late year conventions).

It was supposed to be at M2, but it was pushed back to a different
con. I am not sure which one, but it wasn't at M2. The BI @ M2 was

And also to further make the first guy who picked apart the original email feel
even worse... there has been an option for 9 mods a year for a while now....it
all is based on a complex web of conditions that the triad/region have to meet.
Just an fyi to him.... To test the authenticity of my post feel free to search a
mod database outside the GRM region ... like ... the BK.... and you will find
this to be true.

Um, I thought that Regionals could only have 8 modules per year (or 8

rounds-worth of modules... I'm not sure which). That being said, where

did a 9th come from? Last I checked, there's no way to even order a 9th

year-7 modules on Wizards' site for reporting purposes.

Secondly, if there is a GRM7-SP2 module, what was GRM7-SP1?

I suspect that GRM7-09 The Lost and the Found, will actually be GRM8-01

or GRM8-02, *not* a year 7 mod.... correct?

Also, since this Con is in 2008, and presumably the BI listed below will

be premiered there, it would be GRM8-IN1, correct?

I ask because I maintain a list of all Gran March, Sheldomar Valley, and

Core modules on this and a couple of local yahoo groups, and I've not

heard of either of these modules. Anyone who can answer these questions

for me, please do so that I can maintain an accurate listing of the

modules.

And again, I assumed it was a year 6 BI from the way the Triad talked
about it in the e-mail. And if you would be so kind as to not pick

be greatly appreciative. If you need any additional proof, please

If there is still a slot open, I would like to play this.

Thanks, Ed. I realized it was a moot point anyhow as the next rank up
in the River Guard requires me to go to a PRB anyhow and as I don't
even have the # of commendations needed for the rank that would have
been in between even had I stayed in the infantry.

Michael,

Your recollection is in error. See message # 32793 on this Yahoo group for more
details (copied and pasted below). Time in Grade still applies. Whether the
limit of 2 per year is considered be a "real time limitation" is up to the
Triad.

Thanks,

Hiya Folks,

To add a couple things to Dennis' comments about the discussion last
night, the three of us thought that the player base might like a few
more opportunities for your PCs. That being the case, the following
changes are now in effect for Gran March...

1) **Military TUs remaining for the year (cy597) are now treated as
vacation TUs.** No real sense limiting people's play options with
the end of the campaign looming on the horizon. You'll still have to
pay your meta-org costs & we can't refund IP already spent to acquire
more vacation time though.

2) Real time limitations (aside from Time in Grade for promotion
purposes in the military) are also lifted - if your PC meets all the
other requirements for Syrloch Martinet (as an example), then pay your
meta-org TUs & have fun letting your PC live his dream.

I have searched the board and either did a poor job or no one else has
	 asked yet.

As I recall, the Time in grade requirement was waived for the remainder
of the campaign for figuring promotions. Does the promotion limit of 2
	 per year still apply?

"Well my friend you've been silent through the meal-a good meal by the way.
I have also heard disturbing things in Geoff. The Gyri have allied with the
same evil giants who slaughtered the Sterish, Marchers, Watchers, and the
Gyri themselves."

Canting an eye towards the bartender, "In light of the giant attacks from
Sterish land into Keoland it appears the Gyri are now supporting the slaughter
of the Keoish. Do you think the Keo will declare war against Gyruff for your
alliance with evil?"

Acceptance
By Joe Masden

SOME TIME AGO

Through the joyous haze of rage and blood, he watched the maul crash
murderously into the shield of the soft, pink Gran Marcher. The
little one's spine was bending beneath the weight of the explosive
impact. Its shield cracking, its arm falling broken, its face
streaked with blood and tears as the maul spun in his great horned
hand again, and up and coming down in rage and glee…

Fire from the left, and a jagged haze that blurred and then…Black.

NOT LONG AFTER

Distant…gray…slow light. Not light. Sounds…close. Not…
sounds..can't feel, only brimstone..

"Do you accept?" so far away, and painful.

"YES!" screamed inside, reaching from the burning pit, but soft from
the flesh, not his voice, not his rage, but him. For a moment – him.

Black.

Smells of flesh burned. Weary. Weak. NOT weak. Never weak. Deep,
deep down, swim up, up, up…

Light. Voices, but not words, just noise. Dizzy, focus, move. Move!

Jolting into movement, trapped! On his back, flat, tied down, blurry
light, chained down. Chained down! KILL!

Focus, pull, push chains, eyes bulging, flesh healing. Voice. No
words, just noise. Fur-faced dog, robes, black eyes looking down.
Kill it, thrashing chains, pull…!

Voice quiet, snake. Push…push…chain…moving up…arm…slow...SNAP! Dog
louder, fast now, scared. Scared. Yes! Kill doggy. Get the other
chain and pull…

A hand, slamming into his chest, driving him into the slab, crushing
ribs. Ribs healing, grab the hand and push, Push!…no. Tear the arm,
twist the bones…no… Pressure too much. Not Possible! Flesh healing…
focusing...push again.

No. Power. Immense. He stops, his head clearing, focusing. That
huge hand, arm, so much power. Effortless. He hadn't felt such
brute power since he angered the one he hated most in this world, the
one whose orders he had to follow…

"He's dead," came a huge voice, talking to him from the dark. A
head, bigger than the slab, wolf-like. Evil. Dead? Who's dead?
What…?

Finally, senses all healing, focus returning. The giant wolf was
speaking back to him again.

"He's dead. He's been dead for a month of your time."

Dead? Month...a lie. Not possible, he led the attack tonight on…

"He died some time ago. Not long after you did."

No. Can't be…

"There will be pain. There will be searing education. There will be
improvement. You will endure." Effortless. No argument. Oak tree
with hand still on his chest.

His throat still ragged, seared and burned. He tried to speak and
failed, "You..?"

He was answered nevertheless.

"I am Lord Raum. And you are mine." Effortless. No argument.
Evil, fiendish.

This time, words came through acid burned flesh, "Is…am…Hell?"

"No. But you're catching on."
