What is Living Forgotten Realms?

Living Forgotten Realms (or LFR for short) is a new regionalized RPGA
Living campaign, and the first to utilize the new 4th Edition Dungeons
& Dragons rules. Players create characters and assign them to a
specific region. Characters can be played in any LFR adventure that
supports their levels of play, anywhere. All non-special LFR
adventures will be available for play no matter where you live in the
world. As your character plays adventures, it earns experience points,
gold, and magic items which stay with you from game to game. You can
only play each adventure once, but with dozens of adventures available
each year, there will be plenty of play opportunities.

The campaign cannot succeed without administrators to help run it at a
regional and global level. Administrators are responsible for being
community leads, event organizers, and directors of storylines for
adventures. LFR launches at Gen Con Indy 2008, so administrators will
be picked soon and on the job before the year is out!

Regional System

LFR uses a regional system; that is, the world is divided up into
smaller chunks which correspond to an area in the Forgotten Realms.
There are 12 regions in LFR. Six of these regions are in the US (the
area with the highest concentration of RPGA play); the other six are
spread out over the rest of the world. The regions are: Northeast US,
Southeast US, North Central US, Southwest US, Western US, Pacific US,
Canada, Latin America/Caribbean, UK/Ireland/South Africa, Northern
Europe/Russia, Southern Europe/Turkey, and Australia/New
Zealand/Pacific Asia. See the maps below for more information.

The assignment of Forgotten Realms play areas to these regions will be
announced at D&D Experience 2008. In addition to the regional
assignments, the convention will also have LFR and 4th Edition preview
adventures. D&D Experience takes place at the Hyatt Crystal City in
Arlington, VA from February 28 – March 2, 2008.

Administrative System

Each region has a group of three regional administrators assigned to
it. These individuals live within the geographic area of the region.
Each regional admin has a specific responsibility. The point of
contact is responsible for directly answering to player queries and
for maintaining an active presence on official message boards,
community pages, and other medium as appropriate. The events manager
is responsible for working with conventions in the region and for
maintaining organizations to support the regional players. The writing
director is responsible for editing and reviewing regional adventure
content, as well as developing a plot arc and submitting it for
approval to the global administrators. Note that while each regional
administrator has specific duties, they should all be in constant
contact with one another and decide important regional matters as a
team. The regional administrators report to their global
administrator.

Above the regional admins are the global administrators. There are a
total of three global admin positions. The global admins need to live
in one of the regions that they administer. They are contracted
directly by Wizards of the Coast, and are required to attend at least
one major convention of Wizards' choosing each year. The global admins
are responsible for developing rules updates, managing their regional
admins, maintaining a presence on official message boards, developing
the core storyline, and contributing to the online community through
maintenance of a blog. There is one global admin for Canada, Northeast
US, North Central US, and Western US; another for Southeast US,
Southwest US, Pacific US, and Latin America/Caribbean; the last is for
UK/Ireland/South Africa, Northern Europe/Russia, Southern
Europe/Turkey, and Australia/New Zealand/Pacific Asia. The global
administrators report to the RPGA Content Manager.

Want to Apply?

It's simple! There are a series of application documents below that
you can use to apply for a position. If you're applying for a regional
admin position, select the position you'd like to apply for (point of
contact, events manager, or writing director), download the specific
application, and follow the instructions on it to email the completed
application back to us at Wizards. If you are applying for a global
admin position, you must download and complete the tests on all three,
although you only need to fill in the vital data (like contact
information) on one. If you apply for a global admin position and are
not selected, you will be considered for a regional admin position
(unless you specify otherwise).

Deadlines

The deadline to apply for global admin positions is September 21. If
you apply after that date, you may still be considered for a regional
admin position. The deadline to apply for regional admin positions is
October 5. If you apply after that date, you will not be considered
for an admin position, but you will be referred to the new regional
admins as a prospective volunteer.

When Will I Know?

The RPGA staff will select the global admins and notify them of their
selection by October 1. The RPGA staff and the global admins will
select the regional admins, and they will be notified by November 1.
The campaign staff will be announced to the public by November 15.

As far as I'm aware, there isn't a single document that lists them all, but
everything you need for metaorganizations are at
http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/GranMarch/files/Gran%20March%20Metacampa
ign/. This is the page you get to if, from the "Files" section, you click
on "Gran March Metacampaign". All the metaorgs are there, each with its own
file, plus some files of some extra stuff that isn't quite a metaorg. The
"Gran March Military Benefits" is a must, and more useful than the
similar-sounding "Gran March Military General Organization". Also useful is
the Citizens and Residents document. Syrloch is for spellcasters, there are
various racial organizations, various church organizations, the
"Corporation" (thieve's organization that doesn't actually exist), Bard's
Guild, Knight of the Watch, Knights of the Dispatch, and several other more
specialized metaorgs.

There is also a lot of good stuff at
http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/GranMarch/files/Gran%20March%20Rulings/,
which is the page you get to if, from the "Files" section, you click on
"Gran March Rulings". Here, I would reccommend "Gran March Government" and
"Gran March Legal System".

You might also look at http://www.granmarch.sheldomar-valley.org/, which is
the Gran March website (as opposed to here, which is the Gran March yahoo
group)-- I've not poked around there in great detail, but it looks like it
has the same stuff with a prettier presentation.

I'm new to the March and am looking for any documents that provide
information about the region and also the metaorgs that are available
to join. I have looked through the files section in this group and was
unable to locate a document that covers all the material I am looking
for.

Ha ha... I still need to update the cards on there for the spells that
changed in the Spell Compendium.

But sure, get me a copy of 4.0 and I'll work up some new cards...
I'll even leave the Gran March shield on it to irritate all the Gran
March haters out there.

Yah, that would be me... and thanks for the compliment.

As to the links on the yahoo group, at the time I had been working on
the first version of that map there wasn't a whole lot of file space
on the yahoo group and so things were just linked to the files on my
own page. Of those links, the Bissel Invades map doesn't exist
anymore, so that link is dead... but the other ones still point to the
right files.

There is a reworking of that linked map that I finished in 2006, that
includes quite a bit more detail and is quite a bit larger in scale
That one isn't linked to from the yahoo group, but is available from
the same page. It is full of non-canon towns, rivers and roads that
came out of the old gran march gazetteer project and/or wiki
project... or were of my own creation and as such isn't the least bit
official, condoned or sanctioned.

wow, well, there is definitely a lot of material here, but if you
have not found everything to your heart's content, if you are a bit
more specific, I'm sure the knowledge base can direct you to it.

What specifically are you looking for (info-wise) that you have been
unable to locate here? -and be real specific, maybe you just
overlooked something, some of the material is quite extensive.

The assistant looked over each copy of the documents for errors in
transcription or duplication, as well as the addition of unique
authenticity marks before he sealed them.

The document had few words and wide distribution. One to each
Magistrate, Elector, Baron, Warden, Knight Colonel, Waymaster,
Ridemaster, Apexmaster and to the leaders of each Class 1 Church.

The message read:

*************************************************
In recognition of the close alliance between the Principality of Ulek
and Gran March, the worship of Ulaa is elevated to a Standard Church
in Gran March. Ulaa remains a Class 1 Power. They may proselytize
among the peoples and build permanent church structures. Churches
have begun construction in Red Arbor and Orlane. The Commandant has
send a formal invitation to Karin Whytesmith of the Principality of
Ulek in order for her to attend the consecration of these temples.

Congratulations are due to Heldreth Dorden on his ascension to the
post of Shining Master of the Church of Pholtus. Heldreth Dorden
finally received two-thirds support from the Gleaming and Shining
Lights of the church on the hundred and twenty-fifth ballot. It is
hoped that the advances of the late Orden Maxwell that were added to
the liturgy and organization of the Church of Pholtus will continue.
Construction of the new Shining Spire is almost complete in Orlane.

In other news related to law and religion in Gran March.

Murlrynd is now a Class 2 Power.

Earth Dragon is now a Class 5 Power.

Kelanan, Olidammara, Ralishaz and Wastri are now Class 3
Powers.

All casters of Class 3 powers must register with Gran
March authorities once per year (they may register at any Class 1
Temple or with a Magistrate). Failure to Register carries the same
penalty as being a priest of a Class 4 Power.

*************************************************
The assistant was quite amazed a how much information was related
with relatively few words; quite the opposite that such annoucements
would usually use. Such terse words in official missives were
usually reserved for times of strife or war. Perhaps something was
about to happen. Perhaps he should move to his wife's family house
outside of Orlane.

Looking over the religious news, he wondered at the change of status.
He had heard that Kelenan and Wastri worshipers had created quite a
mess along the Keoland border earlier, and the Principality of Ulek
didn't much like the Earth Dragon. The reasons for the other items
eluded him.

==============================================
==============================================
What does it mean for characters?

Players of divine casters of Kelenan, Olidammara, and Ralishaz will
have to decide whether to register or not. Registration requires a
true accounting of one's name, both what one goes by now and the
name they used when they were a child, an account of one's
profession, training, and military status. Some NPCs are required
to provide a few strands of hair or fingernail clippings but unless
the player character been convicted of a High Law, they would not be
required to submit these extra items. An official registration
document using special paper and inks is given to persons that
register to prove their registration.

Players of divine casters of Kelenan, Olidammara and Ralishaz may
also, one time, select the Pilgrim of Purity option from the General
Religion Meta-organization document without gold or TU cost. The
Standard Faiths of Gran March are: Harvest Church, Saint Cuthbert,
Heironeous, Pholtus, Phyton, Obad-Hai, Fharlanghn, Zlichus and
Ulaa. Until such time that a formal meta-organization of the Church
of Ulaa is released players should use the Congregation of Ulaa
section of the Accepted Religions document for Pilgrims of Purity of
Ulaa.

Technically Murlrynd has become a Class 2(b) power. It was not
mentioned above because the a-f designations are not official and
would not appear in such a document.

I know I still have not gotten my character approved by anyone sorry

there is some way to get it approved by a DM via emailing the stats and

It used to be the eastern third of the Principality of Ulek. Evil
humanoids from the Pomarj took a large swath of our territory, but
they weren't able to settle it because the dwarves kept fighting back.
It's down to maybe a fourth of our territory and shrinking with every
battle.

Here's hoping dwarves will be resettling their ancestral lands before
the campaign is over.

The 3rd, 21st and 24th Battles will form the Army of the Hammer and
be under the Command of KFM Jorn Envian. They are ordered to the
Disputed Territories with all possible haste and have been given
priority to Syrloch resources to facilitate that move.

The 15th Battle is ordered to Ghostgate to maintain order and protect
the town and surrounding lands. They will remain as an active duty
unit for a year before reverting to garrison status.

The 17th Battle will patrol the north side of the Sheldomar River,
from Fort Tribulation to Lortenford, specifically aiding the River
Guard in suppression of land-based threats while the 2nd and 3rd
Flotillas are in the Principality of Ulek.

==============================================
What does this mean for characters?

All five battles will remain non-garrison for the remainder of the
campaign. The change of placement should not be an issue for

The optimal way to play Turf Wars adventures is in order. Barring
that, there is a mild amount of spoilage if done out of order, but
each can be played on their own (there are IIRC hooks in each one for
PCs who have not played them before).

Heh, I played Book Unburned, and was thinking of signing up for Three to
One's Wonder at CatchupCon, but my husband hasn't played any of them. Since
giving up the chance to go back and play the previous ones is not a
troublesome sacrifice for him, sounds like it might work out ok. Catch you

I'm pretty sure that comment is there as notice playing this mod
before the other 3 will 1) lead to confusion, as much of the story is
laid out in the 1st 3 adventures & 2) taint you ability to play the
prior 3 adventures due to the large amounts of spoiler information
revealed in this scenario.

CatchupCon 2007
November 29 - December 2, 2007
Atlanta, GA

CatchupCon is the premiere event in this end of Gran March every
December. It's the last chance for us to play those last few games
that we just haven't been able to get anywhere else. You can also play
ALL of the Gran March Year Six mods, IN ORDER at this con - which is
great if you're coming in from out of town. We will also have a
limited selection of the Year Six Core and SHE mods available.

Go here to see a complete listing of scenarios running at the con.
http://www.warhorn.net/catchupcon2007/scenario/list.php

The slots have been posted. Go here to see the grid of slots and scenarios.
http://www.warhorn.net/catchupcon2007/schedule/grid.php

Location
CatchupCon will be in a new location this year. We're going to be at
the Holiday Inn Select in Norcross. This place is a nicer hotel (with
an indoor pool and jacuzzi, and a bar in the hotel). It also has much
less traffic. It's in the northeast part of Atlanta on Peachtree
Industrial Boulevard. There are plenty of places to eat nearby.

Holiday Inn Select Atlanta-Peachtree Corners
6050 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard • Norcross, Georgia 30071
Phone: (770) 448-4400 • Fax: (770) 840-8008
http://www.hisatlanta.com/

GMs and Volunteers
GMs and up to one volunteer per slot are needed for this con. If you
GM, you get neat con swag that includes WotC books, dice, minis, and
other neat stuff. GMs and volunteers get to play one slot free for
every slot they run.

Cancellation Policy
You will have to pay for your slots before you sign up for games. No
refunds will be given for people who cancel, withdraw, or fail to show
up at the con after registration closes. Registration will probably
close one or two weeks before the con.

Walkup Policy
The con coordinator does not guarantee walk-ups or people who register
after registration is closed the opportunity to play. Registration
will probably close one or two weeks before the con. If there are open
seats, they will preferentially go to preregistered players first.
Preregistration is strongly encouraged for this convention.

Mustering Policy
The con coordinator does not guarantee premustered groups the
opportunity to play together. Players will have the opportunity to
muster themselves. If they cannot, then the con coordinator or her
representatives will muster the players.

REGISTRATION AND YAHOOGROUP ARE NOW OPEN!!!

This thread is officially dead, since it has moved into what decisions
may or may not being made at a corporate HQ.

Either sign the petition or don't, but none of WotC's employees or
decision makers in the RPGA who might be able to change the decision
read this board. If you want to speak out in a place that could change
someone's mind who can actually make a decision, then please go to the
Wizard's RPGA page/board. There is a link in the Links section of this
group in the Living FR directory.

Also, if you want news on LivingFR, please go to one of the LivingFR
links in that same directory. News on LivingFR (unless they decide to
let us convert our PCs over. ;) ) doesn't belong in this group.

hasbro has very little to do with WOTC?
then how come WOTC'S internal legal staf
was entirely eliminated, and every other department
was forced to cut back in which some employees
decided to leave WOTC?
this was hasbro's idea, not WOTC's!
the talk about hasbro's taking over WOTC won't
change their operation is conditional at best, and
their legal decisions are made by hasbro.
so then, who has the final say to their bottom line?

Don't blame Hasbro for this, this is all WOTC. Push new stuff as fast as
possible and then release a new edition rendering the old stuff obsolete was
their M.O. for Magic the Addiction. I seriously doubt that Hasbro has much
influence on the day to day activities of WOTC. I doubt that Hasbro was
consulted on the release of 4th edition. Informed, definitely, but the
decision was almost certainly WOTC's.

hasbro has very little to do with keeping D&D alive!
in fact, HASBRO has been acting like a wild TURKEY in gobbling up all the
small game publishing companies like fasa, iron crown, etc., in order to
monopolize the entire market for themselves!
furthermore, D&D, and the RPGA organization has always been a deficit since
the beginning no matter what method was used to compensate for the expenses.
then comes wizards, whom revived the organization for a short term until
hasbro bought them out.
then with hasbro eliminating the membership costs, they took it among
themselves to just sell more & more product by whatever means they could.
so Change maybe inevitable, but hasbro doesn't have to shove the concept
down our throats just to fatten their wallets.
with hasbro just sitting on so much game product, they could do something
else better than abuse this organization with their so called great
products.
