He's a little busy this weekend helping to throw a party for 20,000 of
his closest friends.

He's at DragonCon this weekend, so you might want to give him a little
time.

That will never happen because then WotC starts running into issues with
labor laws and opens themselves up to class action lawsuits. If they
take the copyright, they *must* pay the author regardless of whether the
author actually wants or needs recompense.

How does Wizards lose revenue if we continue to use
something that was free in the first place?

> ps - I'd never use my mods in another campaign...all

Perhaps, but the LG modbase is a wealth of knowledge,
information, input, and experience that we noobs can
use either to run games off-the-cuff or reference in
picking up tricks on how to build good campaign arcs
ourselves.

I only see two business downsides to Wizards keeping
them available: the cost of download bandwidth and
encouraging persistent player ties to 3rd edition.
There are ways to solve the first. The second is
going to persist regardless.

Call me weird but I hope that with the new RPGA worlds WotC closes this
loophole and keeps all the rights of any future mods.

The reasoning is simple, since WotC has such a strangle hold on their
stuff and will not release it for general use (due to loss of revenue.)

Followed by the fact that all the work we've done is pretty much lost
due to the lack of WotC ownership (I don't see how they can reprint
anything we've written to ever start up LG in the distant future.)

Lastly, this would allow them to print updates on the world and reprint
new "Gazateers".

Just my two BI's worth of thoughts that I'd be more than happy to sign
over to WotC (After getting Eric and Greg to agree).

Living Greyhawk Campaign News
by Chris Tulach

The Living Greyhawk circle has an exciting announcement for all Living Greyhawk
players. Starting September 1, 2007, the circle has decided that all adventures
going forward will cost 0 time units (TUs). So every core, metaregional,
regional, and interactive will cost your character 0 TUs to play. Characters
will
still have to pay a standard lifestyle cost for each adventure played (unless
they choose to live off the wild). If you are playing in your home region
or metaregion, the cost will be 12 gold pieces per round. Everything else will
be 24 gold pieces per round. The cost of rich or luxury lifestyle is 75
gold pieces a round.

Each character will still have 52 TUs a year and must still take away the TU
costs of metaorganizations, crafting, and any other expenditure that requires
the player to use TUs. (Examples include using TUs to grant access to past items
on adventure records, imprisonment costs, or retraining.)

In addition to allowing your character to play all they want, all year 6 core
adventures, and adapted adventures, will be extended for play through the
end of 2008.

All characters have an option to forego leveling to 16th and to keep on playing
adventures until the campaign ends by receiving 0 gp and 0 XP each adventure.
Sacrificing gold and XP this way allows the player to play until the storyline
ends. The player does not have to create a new character in order to play.

Once again a big thanks to all the Living Greyhawk players out there; the circle
would like to thank everyone for their hard work and dedication these past
seven years. We have an incredible story arc lined up to end the campaign along
with all our regions tying up all terrific storylines that are sure not
to be missed.

"The Last Llwyr of Arweth"

By Sean Hillman, Geoff Triad

The body of Bedwyn the Fat lies in a bed in a room in the house of his
son, Llwyr Padrig. The wasting has greatly diminished his girth,
though his loose skin and naturally large frame speak to his former
size. The occasional heaving and rattle from his chest is the only
indication of life. His spirit is waning, and his slumber more
frequent. Bedwyn knows that this will be his last day on Oerth and he
is ready. The long, strange journey that has seen him go from powerful
llwyr to a bedridden invalid is nearly at its end.

A cool breeze from the Peaks crosses his face, and Bedwyn awakens for
the last time. He opens tired eyes and looks around the room. No one
is here and that makes him content. Old Kerrick, his faithful servant,
had been a worried mother over the last few days and Bedwyn is happy
that Padrig had convinced the old man to get some rest. Of course this
leaves the old llwyr alone and incapable of doing anything other than
listen to the sound of his own labored breath.

Many faces had passed through this room over the last few days. The
High Chancellor had delivered a touching letter from the Brenin. Other
llwyri and arglwythi had come and gone, each one wishing him well on
his journey according to his or her beliefs. A few old friends and
even a few old rivals had come as well. Many used his impending death
as an opportunity to ingratiate themselves to Llwyr Padrig with
overtures of aid and alliance, but Bedwyn knew his son as a keen judge
of character, and would do more than well in the years to come.

His diminished hearing picks up the low mumble of voices from the next
room and he thinks for a moment that a new voice is among them. Then
the voices die away and all that can be heard is the thud of boots on
wood. Straining, Bedwyn turns his head to see who is coming. His eyes
have trouble focusing and he must blink away sleep to get a good look.
The woman is older than he remembers though her hair is no longer pure
white. She walks and dresses like a warrior once again though despite
the years and the uncounted wounds, Sierra Blackblade is still very
beautiful.

“If I remember,” he says, licking his lips like an old beggar drooling
for food, “we had not finished our argument before I left.” The voice
is weak but surprisingly full of mirth.

Sierra smiles and closes the door as she enters. “I barely remember
but I doubt either of us could manage it today.” Gently she sits down
on the bed next to him. The smile is gone now. “Though I think we have
unfinished business between us.”

Bedwyn coughs once. Sierra helps him sit up a bit and his chest feels
much lighter. With the last of his strength, Bedwyn gazes at his peer.
“Did you come here to ask forgiveness?” The words are brusque, and
Bedwyn immediately regrets their edge.

“No. I do not expect you to forgive me.” Her gaze is unflinching, and
Bedwyn is reminded of their days in the Brenin's council chamber.

Weakly he shrugs. “You had no choice.” The statement seems inadequate
but he has not the strength to find another.

“That’s not an excuse. There is always a choice. I do not regret
making it...only...that I *had* to make it at all.” She responds,
crossing one leg over the other and leaning her elbows on her knee.

The words hang in the air as they two stare at one another. Finally
Bedwyn recovers some of his strength. “Well, what's done is done. I'm
sure you didn't come here to talk about history, so what brings you
all the way out to the 'wilds' of Araul Anterth?"

For a long moment he does not think Sierra will answer. She averts her
eyes and turns her head to the side. Sierra swallows hard and then
turns back to him. There is a tear there, streaming gently down her
face towards a crooked half smile that now lays upon her lips.

“We are the last of the old guard. Whatever we think of one another it
seemed wrong for me not to come. It seemed wrong to not see you off on
your journey.”

Bedwyn can do very little now except smile. He can feel his spirit
begin to leave his body and he fights with what will he has left to
stay just one more moment. His chest rattles with a deep breath, and
he moves his hand and gently onto her arm, squeezing it weakly before
releasing.

“No hard feelings.” He says, before looking to the door, "My son...".
Bedwyn can't finish his sentence. His eyes close for the last time,
but he can hear Sierra call out for Padrig, and the rush of booted
feet getting nearer. Still, it seems like they are a hundred miles
away. He can no longer feel the bed beneath his body and the sounds
that reach his ears are garbled and distant. The cool breeze becomes a
warm sensation as Bedwyn's senses depart the mortal world to rejoin
the Eternal Circle.

In the world of the living, a son kneels over the body of his father
and word begins to spread across Gyruff that Bedwyn the Fat, the last
llwyr of Arweth, is dead.

For adventures which WotC/RPGA paid for, WotC/RPGA owns them. For all
others from LG (including all recent regionals and metaregionals),
once the adventure is no longer available for play in LG, the rights
to all non-WotC content reverts back to the author. Which means they
can strip out all references to GH, etc., and then do what they want
with the rest. Once you strip all that stuff out, there is usually
not enough left to make it worth reusing, but that's the author's
choice.

Maybe I missed something somewhere. I hope I have.

However, all RPGA modules are the sole property of RPGA, thus WotC, thus
Hasbro. To distribute them in any way is (to my mind) in direct
violation of copyright laws concerning distribution of IP. Even the
author of said event (since it was written for the RPGA) has no more
rights than anyone else.

With that said, I haven't written for RPGA since LG started, so I have
no idea if they changed things in that time period. If so, more power
to you. Until you get the C&D. If not, then more power to you until
you get the C&D.

I, personally, have every module run at Dragon*Con (including BI's) for
the last 5 years. But, until I get something from RPGA that says I am
at liberty to distribute their IP (read WotC's IP), then they'll stay
right where they are.

We cannot do it centrally.

However, if authors and Con coordinators want to start a database
that indicates which modules they wrote, and which modules were run
at past conventions, and include their e-mail addresses in case
someone notices a problem with their RPGA points (or questions about
the modules), then I would consider that a valid use of that function
of this list.

We don't legally.

And yes, I'm sure anyone who wrote or helped with a BI still has a
copy of it, as well as the person who organized LG for whatever Con
hosted a BI.

He is selling stuff from the RPGA Packs. The Modules are older ones that
were with the Game Packs. and Reward Cards. This is legal as they were sold

I'm looking for someone (or someones) to handle the RPGA coordination
at MACE this year. This may involve some side coordination with me,
as I'm going to handle Living Arcanis, Blackmoor and Witch Hunter
scheduling.

Please write to me off-list if you are interested.

Thanks.

As far as I know that is illegal as well. Unless he/she was the author of
the mod and had the rights to sell his own stuff????

I decided to create a new Yahoo group dedicated to the discussion of
how to save Living Greyhawk. The group can be accessed at:
lets_save_lg@ yahoogroups. com

The group's description is listed below for anyone
interested.

Thanks,

Daren

I apologize for any cross-posting.

Here is the group's description:

This group is dedicated to discussion aimed at saving Living Greyhawk
from its planned cancellation in 2008. Strategies and thoughts on how
to accomplish this are welcome.

A secondary goal of this group is to promote Greyhawk with the RPGA,
WoTC and the gaming population in general.

This group is not about flaming the RPGA, Wizards of the Coast,
Hasbro or Living Forgotten Realms. Instead the group is focused on
promoting Living Greyhawk's benefits and ultimately on changing the
cancellation decision that has been made.

Yes, there has been talk.

The answer is no.

But I think large number of people have kept just about every mod
they've ever ordered or played, though.

Kay kay.

Has there been any talk of making all of the LG mods
available as open source after 2008?

Hi all,

I'm new to the list and my girlfriend and I are trying to get involved
with the Living Greyhawk Campaign this year at DragonCon. Is anybody
running an introductory game on Thursday night of the con? I'm really
interested in getting ready for the week and getting as much game as I
can fit into my weekend at DragonCon.

Greed?

They did the same thing in the last months of 3rd edition
before the release of 3.5.....

Agh, don't start it all up again! It's too fresh a wound to keep poking at!

The Living Greyhawk board is still working through outrage/denial/plots of
popular uprising-- here we seem to have settled into an acceptance of one
sort or another. Some a numb despair, some a cold resentful fury, and some
an hopeful excitement, but either way a state of mind that lets us resist
pouring out scores of emails on the subject. I've finally worked through my
own issues, and have had to quit reading the Living Greyhawk board, but as a
latecomer you may well still need the peer councelling and might still find
some satisfaction there...

Okay, I'm gone for a month and I return to discover
that 3.5 is giving way to 4th in middle 2008 (giving
it a shorter lifecycle than Windows XP) and that
Living Greyhawk will also be going the way of the
dodo.

Did I get that right? What else have I missed?

And is there any particular reason Wizards is still
releasing 2-3 books per month when they're going to be
obsolete in less than a year?

Could those people who are coordinating the LG campaign at conventions
between Jan 1 and June 30, contact me regarding game and interactive
