From the front lines of the battle against Shady – Part 1 – The debriefing
OOC:
I was told I could write a description of what happend at the table I was at
during the interactive slot zero and relay that to the players. Part 1 as below
will deal with that mission. Hopefully other players will read and take into
account what is below.
IC:

The operating commander of the upcoming battle against the shadow dragon
reviewed the report he had received from the scouting mission swirled a cup of
siedr around and took a long sip. The commander had a look of relief upon his
face and chuckled.

He looked up to see the young woman standing before him. Her long pale hair
spilled around her long cloak that was festooned with rose styled embroidery.
She wore small darkened glasses even in the darkness of the tent. For being four
times touched by the plane of shadow, the glow about her was unexpected. He had
been told the woman before him was rumored to be humorless and had gained the
title “The Pious” from those who thought her too reserved.

“Teulu Miranda, I’ve looked over your report.  I just want to verify your
findings.” He skimmed the report and found the passage he was looking for. “Just
to review, your mission was to make your way north of the former citadel of
light and close down a shadow junction gate that was in a small pond there. The
purpose of which was to prevent any further influx of shades flanking our forces
during the operations that are at hand. Was the gate sealed?”

Miranda nodded, “Yes, it was touch and go but based off the ability and faith of
Adelia of Cuthbert and the expert tactical planning of my fellow wolf pack
members, the gate is now closed. There will be no reinforcements coming against
us from that gate.”

The commander was relieved he had not read the report incorrectly. “I am a bit
confused about what you encountered, could you elaborate?”

Miranda nodded again, “The first thing we encountered was a ghost treant,
followed by extremely tough shadows, a faded shadow dragon. The last monster we
encountered, I have no idea what it was…”

“The last monster in question is what I have the most questions about. Can you
describe it? The wording on the report is a bit confusing.”

Miranda thought back, “It was like a large black sphere, with tentacles. It
managed to grab our goat and began eating it. The best way I can explain it
would be a singularity. We believe it was undead, but we cannot verify that.
Personally sir, it seemed more of a threat to me than the shadow dragon we were
up against.”

“You didn’t finish off many of the gate guardians…” The commander began only to
be cut off.

“Sir, that was not our mission. Our mission was to close that gate. To that
point our wolf pack was determined, even if it cost us our lives. We
accomplished the mission and withdrew.”

The commander nodded enthusiastically. “And accomplished the mission you did. Do
you have anything more to contribute?”

“I would strongly suggest that all wolf pack members bring items or spells that
will reverse the drain of the undead. Most of what we encountered was undead,
their senses were keen. They seem to be able to determine where you are no
matter how you hide, or where. We almost lost one of our members to the drain of
the shadows.”

“I’ll keep that in mind when I make my recommendations. Good job and dismissed.”

Miranda curtsied and made her way out of the tent. She had to meet up with her
uncle.

P.S. The triad's cheese-foo is stong, heed these warnings, "save you it can."
