PNG's actually seem to be the best choice. I think the
only other thing I have tried is jpeg's and they
sometimes have a problem with background

Sorry, by "PNG support", I didn't mean they're tech support, I mean the
fact that the program now uses PNG's along with BMP's fpr objects. Do using
PNG's seem to work pretty well here?

You pick the scaling on your map. For myself I have
done maps ranging from an Inn where an inch was about
5 feet to world maps where and inch was about 500
miles. I have never used there support, so I can't
verify how good it is. I haven't made any custom tool,
but I have done a few custom props. Usually I take an
existing prop similar to what I want and save it as a
different file before modifing it. This puts it on the
same scale as other props. I have made things like
swamp trees, a fountain with a statue, a special
lighthouse, Huts and a few other buildings.

Greeting to the list.
I'm looking at getting Fractal Mapper. I tried the trial, and was
happy with what I saw, but would like to ask a few questions first,
please:
How does everyone like the PNG support? Does it seem easy to add the
art?
How easy is it to make custom tools?
What is the scales of the various PNG/BMP art? (IE: How many pixels
equals a foot for each scale, such as Dungeon vs City vs ?)
Thanks in advance.

I am removing myself from this list... one because it is doesnt have any

You can drag a box around the area you want to print
and it will just print that section. Unfortunately
there does not appear to be away to zoom in the print
selection window, which is a bit frustrating. So if
you have a large map and are just trying to print a
small region it can take a few tries to get the area
that you want. Alternatively though you could save
your map as a jpeg and bring it into a photo-editor
and crop appropriately.

Okies the fill pattern thing is what I was aiming for. And I had tried the
polygon thing but even when I drop the fractals down to 3 or 4 the shapes are
still a problem I was hoping their would be an easier way to do it than
individual polygons. Ah well...
Thanks for you help, anyways
Sean Sandeen <bone_naga@...> wrote:
Are you trying to use several fill patterns on one continent or is the problem
placing terrain images, like mountains? If you are using the fill patterns, you
have to create a separate polygon for each pattern you want to use and then just
overlap them to give the appearance of a single continent. If the program is not
allowing you to place images, then I have no idea. You might want to check the
nbos website. My friend's computer made all green fill patterns look brown but
there was a patch on the site to fix it.

Oh I was purposely vague because I wasn't sure if I should post my questions to
the mailing group or individual people. So anyways... here is my problem:
I am having a hard time making different parts of a contenant have different
landscapes (just the mapper not the world explorer). Also I can't seem to get
cities to work on my maps, same thing for anything textual.
I have a specific map I want to draw... as in its already drawn and city
locations ect. known. I'm just converting it to Fractal Mapper and its really
quiet frustrating.

It would help if you were a little more specific about what you are having
trouble with, its a little excessive for me to post an entire tutorial/user
manual on here. Also are you using the mapper or the Fractal Explorer or
whatever the name is that comes with the mapper?
