First off, thank you for making awesome games.

Secondly, I have a question regarding the Wheel of Fate rules - I was reading
over the Exalted Dragon-Blooded write up using WoF (in the
files/to-be-sorted/loose-files area), and noticed that the rules seemed to
indicate that characters took Stress Dice against specific Traits, as opposed to
the vanilla WoF write up that indicated Stress Dice were accumulated
independently of Traits, and once you had more Stress than a given Trait you
were out of commission as far as that Trait went.

Am I reading things correctly? I've started adapting the rules for a game of my
own, and both implementations seem to appeal to different senses.

Thanks,

Subject: Fate Writers Needed!

We've got a growing number of products scheduled for the coming months and
throughout next year for Starblazer Adventures, Legends of Anglerre (the fantasy
version of Starblazer) and next year's secret FATE project...

As the overall line manager for Starblazer I'd like to get more people involved
who are passionate about Fate and can work on products or contribute ideas. It's
a paid gig with writer's credits and a great opportunity to get published in the
gaming world.

You don't need to have been professionally published but you'll need to show
some proficiency with writing, and an understanding of the Fate system,
particularly the way we do things in Starblazer's interpretation of Fate. You'll
also need to be realistic about how much you can write, and stick to a deadline
to deliver it.

So, we're looking for people who can...

- Help develop rules sections - for example on Anglerre we've got a talented
team developing the powers/magic system, developing the fantasy careers, the
mass combat and galley battles but all based on the foundations laid out in
Starblazer. Sometimes this involves extending the work to embrace new concepts
but on the whole we don't create new rules. It's essentially sticking to Fred's
concept of the Fate Fractal that everything can be described like a character
and we embrace that wholly.

- Help write adventures. I'm still a believer in cleverly scripted plots points
for adventures to hinge around, but also love the creativity unleashed with Fate
declarations and the collaborative campaign building. So we're looking for
people who can write two sided adventures that provide the basics for a
collaborative game or a traditional style of adventure with more detail
provided.

If you're interested drop me an email to chris at cubicle7 dot co dot uk with a
little about yourself and ideally an example of something you've written (can be
for anything not just Fate)

cheers!
Chris

Just a quick note -- Evil Hat has started up its own webstore now:

http://www.evilhat.com/store/

(In case you're wondering, this is just another option for where you can buy stuff both Fate and not-Fate from Evil Hat -- we're not discontinuing our presence anywhere we already sell our stuff.)

No new products at this store -- yet -- but I figured folks might want to know it's out there. :)

Thanks,

For some reason, this intrigued me. It may not be ground breaking but it struck
me that somewhere in there is an idea to do the supers thing. Basically, you
have a group of people (super, gods, etc) that can break the rules in some area.
This allows them to spend FATE points to do things no one else could ever do
with them. Kind of a super stunt or aspect that would change the rules for a
whole class of abilities. There is a lot more in there though. Still prodding
the OP to provide details. You're welcome to drop by or as it gets distilled
I'll try to bring it over here.

Hello!

I got my parents to play some Spirit of the Century during the summer
vacation. Here are the reports I made on my blog:

http://monicatbox.blogspot.com/2009/07/playing-spirit-of-century-with-my.html
http://monicatbox.blogspot.com/2009/08/spirit-of-century-with-my-parents-part.ht\
ml

My parents didn't want too much "boomboom" nor too much "weird stuff",
so I went with an Indiana Jones-like scenario: everything is pretty
much normal until the very end where there's some unexplained
paranormal occurence.

It was also my first experience mastering a SotC game and I'm glad
with how it went. We didn't use Stunts and Aspects were usually
brought out through my pointing out they could be useful here and
there, but it was nice nonetheless.

Hiya folks,

I'm looking for players for Shackled Horizons, a Starblazer Adventures
game set in a (semi) original setting. The real-time sessions take place
on Friday nights, on IRC, with some possibility of using Skype, though
some scenes and plot development will also be handled through a yahoo
email group.

That group's address is here:
http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/shackledhorizons/

The real time sessions are on irc.magicstar, in #sh_ooc, and #sh_nar,
and the realtime meetings take place at 8pm EST on Friday nights.

What I'm hoping for are players who are wanting to play Starblazer
Adventures, and at the same time help develop the setting, both through
their characters, and the ongoing story. Aside from basic setting and
some large plot arcs, things are quite open, by design, so I hope to
find those interested persons.

Take care,

Dan

We are happy (well, ecstatic, really, and still a little drunk) to
announce that Diaspora is finally available for purchase in hardcover.
Diaspora is a hard science-fiction FATE game with an emphasis on table
authority and setting creation. We've had more fun playtesting it than
playing practically any game since Traveller in the very early 80s.

If you feel you need yet another FATE game (and who doesn't), please
have a look at http://www.vsca.ca/Diaspora.

Thanks to the SotC gang who made this not just possible, but
inevitable to us. Fred, Lenny, and Rob, you are our heroes.

GenCon is a heckuva trip for us Canadians so it's pretty unlikely. We
may hit a few smaller local cons though -- we're batting around the
idea of renting a table at V-Con here in Vancouver in October.

I guess the decreased supply increases the value of our signatures though!

Hello,

I'm a Fate newbie and I was wondering if there is a good way to look
through some of the community's discussions on adapting the Spirit of

wondering I could borrow any work that has been done on
Post-Apocalyptic fantasy and, of course, Sword & Sorcery (or slightly
higher D&D type) fantasy.

I have tried to search through the yahoogroup logs, but its
clunky...is there a web-forum for Fate that I have overlooked?

By way of introduction, I took up GM'ing a while ago just to stay in
the hobby. I love stories, and sometimes I love systems...sometimes.
After learning and playing D&D and AD&D as a kid I have always been

Enough of that...I appreciate your help.

What are some creative uses of Sleight of Hand you've seen (or done) in SotC for characters not using it to steal, pickpocket or do a magic trick? A doctor character took it as a skill, and I'm wondering if it'd make sense to use that for something like surprise attack with chloroform bandage or a tranquilizer delivered by ampule?

So please, share your creative combat and non-combat ideas for Sleight of Hand!

So one of the elements of a Fantasy Fate, as far as I'm concerned, would be feats (similar to Stunts, of Pulp Adventure). Here's how I think they would play out:

Each Skill is linked to 1-4 Feats. Each Feat has a range of abilities based on the linked skill. Here's Sleight Of Hand's example:

Subtle Cut

The way you slice opponents has them feeling fine now, but will eventually catch up to them.

Poor(-1) You may Complement a Weapons skill test with Sleight of Hand, regardless of level.
Average(+1) Whenever you would deal Health Stress, you can spend a Karma Point and cross out both the original box the box before it as well. May be done once per character per session.
Good(+3) By spending a Karma Point you can avoid dealing Health Stress and instead give a penalty to their next physical skill test. -2 per 1 Stress voided.
Superb(+5) You may replace the Weapons skill with Sleight Of Hand as long as the target has a tagged aspect pertaining to being disabled or in a bad situation (Such as Stuck In The Crowd)

Someone with Superb Sleight Of Hand would have all 4 abilities at his disposal, while someone with only +0 Sleight of Hand would have the first ability. Players would have 2-3 Feats, probably 2.

Thoughts?

OK, so I don't know how many Starblazer players there are out there, but
here's my question. In Starblazer, two dice are rolled. The value of one is
subtracted from the other, yielding a result of -5 to 5. My question is what
does this do to the probability of rolling high and low results. Does it create
more frequent "middle" rolls or a greater amount of extremes?

I can't speak to the real math, but in my experience, while there is
still a general tendency towards the middle (-1,0,1) you do seem to get
a larger proportion of extremes then with 4DF.

The d6-d6 system produces a flatter curve with more extremes. The
chance of getting a zero result is lower, and the chance of getting
higher values is higher. It is a distinctly different range.

Interestingly, d4-d4 is much closer to the 4dF curve, though obviously
without any +/-4 results at all.

1d6 minus 1d6 is mathematically identical to 2d6-7, so I'll just refer to 2d6.

Thus you have a 6 in 36 chance of getting a zero, and 1 in 36 chance of
getting +5 or -5

Compare this to 4dF, where the chances of getting a +4 or -4 is 1 in 81

Getting a lowest common denominator for those, we get
2d6 = 9 in 324
4dF = 4 in 324

So yes, you're more than twice as likely to get an extreme on 2d6 as 4dF.

But the more dice you have, the taller your bell curve is and the less likely
the
extremes are, thanks to the power of exponents. (ha ha)

The chance of rolling zero on 4dF is 19/81, or 23.456%
The chance of rolling zero for Starblazer is 6/36, or 16.666%

So yeah, that method has a wider variance in results for sure.

Brad -- I just rushed out to buy a copy and had a tough time getting to the page. You seem to have included the period from your sentence in your URL. It took me longer than it should have to figure that out.

So, listen up you primitive screwheads! Click HERE instead.

This has been a public service announcement on behalf of Dudes who Love Diaspora...

ALSO -- any chance any of you guys are going to be at GenCon? I'd love to gather some autographs!

If you feel you need yet another FATE game (and who doesn't), please
have a look at http://www.vsca. ca/Diaspora.

Thanks to the SotC gang who made this not just possible, but
inevitable to us. Fred, Lenny, and Rob, you are our heroes.

I think the most developed stuff is in the files section. I'd jump in with any other questions. Usually people are happy to help.

Go to the message area and try using the search box at the top. There's an
advanced search form so you can get closer to what you want.

That is just what I was looking for.
