I seem to have missed the original message. :)

I'm a big fan of borrowing against the future. If someone
picks up an item that they want to keep with their
character that would cost them three skill points, then
their next three skill points are spoken for -- they don't
have to have them Right Now. (To behave otherwise is
terribly inflexible and unnecessarily punitive, IMO; but
that's how I roll.)
