Yeah I must admit I'm finding this slightly tangential discussion regarding what
to lead to a 2nd seat assist much more interesting than the initial discussion
regarding what the dealer should discard. But as they say different strokes for
different folks.
If the simulator always has the 1st seat player lead trump to a 2nd seat assist
than I think it is a sub optimal strategy. But I am unclear if this is what the
simulator does or not...
Agree that with any aces in the hand, leading trump is normally best in these
situations. Other important factors already mentioned: void suit(s) and also
which trump card was ordered up. Also the trump I hold is important as I am
reluctant to ever lead trump if I have a guarded left or something like
Right-Ace or Right-King.
If I have the Right and another low trump and a high trump card was ordered up I
will always lead the Right and then my low trump on trick 2 if the dealer did
not play the trump he was ordered on trick 1.
Overall I'd say I lead trump about 50% of the time in these situations which is
quite a bit lower than your 90% figure but which seems to be similar to most of
the players I play against.

They say never unguard the left. Well when 2nd orders the King or lower I will lead the lower of my guarded left holding. More times than not 2nd will drop his...
Yeah you could be right about that. At some scores I will unguard the left by leading the low trump... but I still don't like it. At other scores I won't as...
BTW Todd... I seem to recall that you almost always will lead trump when the 2nd seat orders up. This is not a problem for me as my default strategy is to...
Leading trump to a 2nd chair order bunches the trump. It doesn't always work but it definitely puckers the maker. It's not only a good strategy of play but...
From my experience, sitting at age, when I've had a strong hand with the right and other off suit winners, in the suit picked up, leading the right seems to...
It does not "bundle the trump" when the dealer's partner, who should NOT BE ORDERING UP IN THE FIRST PLACE, has not ordered up with a slim holding . . . ....
Seems to me that Todd has a win / win situation. 1st way: Todd plays trump and it stops a player like yourself from calling trump when you have marginal...
I guess I didn't explain it right. I meant that I only order up with strong hands from 2nd seat irresepctive of whether the 1st seat player leads trump or...
Now that's good. ... strong hands from 2nd seat irresepctive of whether the 1st seat player leads trump or not. As such I always welcome a trump lead when I...
But I should qualify what I mean when I say "strong hands" ordering from 2nd. The minimum hands would be: Right-x in trump plus a side Ace, any 3 trump both...

I don't mind having it... but if my partner has the trump I need him to have in order to make point then he will very likely be picking it up anyway. And if...
I'm assuming you're saying you never lead trump from age when dealer is assisted/picks up the right? Only exception that I would lead trump if dealer is...
I don't remember the actual quote but Natty said something along the lines of "There are NOT any nevers and always in euchre." Perry, didn't you once come up...
