Thanks :-
Many thanks to the PAWS club for running an afternoon of DBA fun yesterday. A
thinner turnout than some previous events, but well worth attending. Colin
O'Shea won the day, with Martin Myers fighting him long and hard in the final.

WHY oh WHY ???
I was planning to scribble a few lines for Slingshot, with an angle on the
armies used for this particular tournament. To this end, can I ask those who
played to give me an idea about their own army choice. Hints at areas I'd hope
to cover are as follows :-

What army did you take to the English DBA Open this year?
Why did you choose that army?
How did it perform ? In what ways did it do well for you, and where did you feel
it let you down?
Would you use that army again?
Any general comments on the day?

Please e.mail to smiffft@...

Thanks
Martin

So far' I've had no 25mm entries.

If you are planning on turning up on Sunday at 9 o'clock hoping to play 25 mm,
it might be sensible to bring a 15 mm army as well in case the 25 mm tournament
doesn't happen.

Thanks Bill.

Sorry for double posting, thought I had not sent the first.
With four of us likely to come from Alvechurch, by date allows us to split
ourselves up a bit.

Yes, unless someone can suggest a better way of organising the groups.

I know Phil Barker was critical of the groups-by-date format as it meant he
didn't face all the historical opponents that turned up but he failed to offer
any alternative that would work.

Hello

Now we know the date for the English Open DBA will it be organized the same as
last year by army date.
Preventing section one armies playing section four etc in the initial rounds?

Just a prompt :- the Alvechurch Templars are again holding the Midlands DBA
tournament, in Alvechurch, just south of Birmingham / north of Redditch. It's on
17th May, with a 10 a.m. start time.
Note, it's Book I II or III only, i.e. no Bk IV/medievals.
See the News and Notices section of the Fanaticus site for more details

Hi all,

Just a reminder (if anyone could ever forget) that the 2008 English DBA
Open is This Sunday.

Senior 15 mm enties have already reached the number that actually
played last year. (Remember that we do accept entries turning up in
time on the day, but sending an entry form guarantees you one of this
year's discount vouchers.)

However, I have so far only received one confirmed 25mm entry (although
I confidently expect certain other people to turn up for it). If you
are going to play 25mm, can you at least email me so I know roughly how
many tables we will need.

Thanks

Bill

My personal preference is for the fixed version, as per the
rulebook, however, as long as we know in advance so we can bring the
relevant figures whatever you decide goes, of course (At a
competition recently an opponent commented before deployment "so if
your using 'army x' then I'll use my kn / Lh/ whatever cos you've
got xyz in your army". Basically, no-one had pointed out that we
were supposed to be on fixed armies...and he'd been juggling troop
types as required in the previous rounds....ho hum).

OK, so what little opinion I've received on this has, with the
exception of Nik, come out in favour of fixed army selection, so that
it what I'm going to go with again.

However, if, on the day, both opponents in any particular game agree
beforehand to allow choice for that game only, I'm not going to
penalise those players as long as they are honest about reverting to
their 'fixed' army for all their other games.

Alternatively, if, on the day, all players in any of the groups
unanimously agree to allow flexible army choice, then again that will
be acceptable, as long as they let me know that it is being done (and
I'm convinced one or more players aren't allowing going along with
the crowd when they don't really want to).

I don't know where you have heard about any change of date (unless you

Then entirely my fault for not having it in the diary!!!!  Thanks.  Glad we all agree on the value of that.

Good point, Nik.

We used to alternate between fixed and chosen for each game, but we've used
fixed for the last two years (as people last year preferred to keep with
fixed).

Would anyone object if we allowed choice at the start of each game this
year?

Bill

Usual question - troops with options are they going to be fixed for
the whole comp or chosen before each game?

As ever I like the additional skill involved in the latter but as
long as I know which I'll be happy :-)

Cheers,

Nik
