Yeah, you could probably sell the 3.0 version on EBay and use that to buy
the 3.5 version, and then some. ;)

Seriously, though, there's no separate conversion document. The changes
between editions adjusted almost every stat block in the module. A
conversion document would have so many changes it would be unmanageable.

You will probably see it added to the schedule for release later in the
year. It won't be at Gen Con, but you can look for an announcement not too
long after Gen Con.

Hello mates,

I am Michael, 32 years old and playing D&D since I am 10.

I started my adventures with the good old "Frank Mentzer 1983's Red
box", and played after with either the first and second AD&D
editions..

I am a DM since I am 12 and played also various RPG and lately the
3rd edition of D&D..

I found the new system very complete but also very technical, my
players and I did not enjoyed it as we prefer quick fights, less dice
rolls and more fun, more roleplaying...and less "miniatures"
or "squirmish" stuff..

Meanwhile, I was pondering how to recover the good old spirit of
basic D&D.

So I took the decision to unearth my old boxes of D&D and play the
old modules.. like "Rahasia" or "the lost city"..

I am still fascinated by Elmore and Easley early artworks in the old
D&D rule books and modules.

I am pondering about switching my campaign from the FR to the DCC
world, is there anyone here who made the same statements about a
return to 1st edition rules ? and about a switch to the DCC world ?
So I would feel less lonely ^^
Thank you.

Hey Michael,

I can tell you that Goodman Games has at least one module that has
been converted from 3.5E to 1st Edition, and that it's going to be
reprinted soon.

I can also say that the DCC world-setting, The Known World, is pretty
fantastic and touches all the right bases for that 1st Ed-flavor.

I also started on the Red Box, and Rahasia was the first module I ever
played (darn that water weird!).

I started where you did. A couple of suggestions (apologies in advance
for spamming the list):
1. Visit www.dragonsfoot.org, you will have foudn a new home ;-).
2. Check out Castles and Crusades. For some (myself included) it is a
balance of early editions with some of the 3.5 stuff in it - but not
heavy like 3.5. And Goodman has modules for C&C. (Disclaimer, there
are reports of C&C being difficult to get in Europe except mail-order
from Troll Lord Games, the producers. If you're in Europe, count on
several weeks before you can get a copy).

3. YES, check out The Known World. It's good stuff.

Regards,
Don.

Thank you Adrian and Don,

1)I will get the GCC campaign module as soon as possible, I already lurking among the dragonfoot guys, and I am pondering about using the basic fantasy rpg rules.
2)It seems C&C is very similar according to a sample of their character sheet I saw.
3)Adrian, I saw a picture of you at GENCON, I wish I was able to get there too, but as I live in europe and I have a professional occupation.. Anyway I look forward to meet the cool players of this group in the futur at GENCON 2007..

thank for your nice and quick answers to my post.

Hello mates,

would you all be able to tell us your favorite(s) basic D&D module ?

Mine are Rahasia and the Lost city...

Because both have many roleplaying hints, Rahasia is first because of Easley art wich is with Elmore may favorite D&D art.

Your answers might help some of us buy at ebay their missing modules.. and enjoy playing them..also it might help the current DCC designers know a slight more what other players  enjoyed in old style modules.. even if I am prettysure they already did figured out that according to the quality of DCC modules...^^

My favorite old school module would be B3 Palace of the Silver Princess.  However, B4 The Lost City is a close second.

My two favorite were B4 The Lost City and S2 White Plume Mountain.

Lost City, IMO, was a good module with a lot of good material for
beginning gamers. This was probably the first module i ever played.

White Plume Mountain, while not a very good adventure, was also an
early purchase of mine and left a strong impression on me. I believe
it had more to do with the fantastic nature of some of the features
of that adventure (kyaking in a floating river, a room with a
menagerie of monsters, etc) than the actual story.

Check out DCC#35 Gazetteer of the Known Realms.  I picked it up at GenCon and I'm loving it.  I'm personally switching from Eberron to the Known Realms for my regular campaign setting.

2nd B3, Palace of the Silver Princess. Completely contained, easy to
drop in anywhere, very challenging. From the DM perspective it had a
great map and was one of the first to include readable "text" boxes.

Does the Known Realms use the standard D&D Pantheon? I.E. Deities,
classes, etc. Or does it throw in a bunch of differences?

I really like to stick to the basics that my friends have in their
3.0 & 3.5 PHB so they don't have to purchase or figure out a bunch of
new things. We're all parents with jobs, got enough going on already.

I'm interested to hear recommendations of campaign settings that meet
that criteria. We use what's essentially Greyhawk, even though I
don't have any of the greyhawk materials (if someone can tell me what
those are I'd be interested. Is that just the living gazette doc?)

I like Greyhawk, specifically the 1983 boxed set, the best. It simply
fits my style of DMing best by giving me infrastructure to build on,
rather than burying me with a ton of details that I'll never use or
have to extensively modify anyway.

I liken '83 GH to a sandbox of your own with nice sturdy walls, a
comfy seat, some shovels, a bucket of water, and a ton of sand. Other
campaign settings are like playing in someone else's sandbox, but
there is a big sandcastle there already, and you end up with a few
corners to build in. Plus, you never know when the owner of the
sandbox is going to come in, knock your stuff over, and add on to the
orignal castle on top of what was your space.

Of course, you can go the pre-fab detailed route with Greyhawk as
well, with all of the 2e supplements and LG stuff. So, yeah, Greyhawk
in that regard.

Having said that, I'll happily mine FR, Mystara, old-school or
Necromancer's Judges Guild material, and Blackmoor for ideas and
material, once in a great while. I'm also eagerly awaiting the
release of DCC #35 in pdf format.

Blackmoor was my first published D&D campaign of choice. However, I
was also fond of the Hollow World series.

For Non-canon D&D I was a big fan of the Haven City series from
Gamelords.

I just picked up the PDF copy, and I'm darn impressed.  I'm impressed by both the content and the fact you chose to include a "no background" version of the game books.  THANK YOU!!!!
