WELCOME TO THE INN
Greetings, friends and fellow companions, and welcome back to the Inn
of the Last Home. It's Nexus Day today, and we're all celebrating.
It's the New Year as well, and there's much to look forward to.
So grab your hoopaks and step into the Nexus. The portal to
adventure awaits!
HAPPY NEXUS DAY!
Today is Nexus Day, marking the seventh anniversary of the
Dragonlance Nexus. Not too shabby for a project that was predicted
to fail! It's just amazing how far we've come in that time.
The Dragonlance Nexus came together as a way to keep Dragonlance
gaming alive by creating 3rd edition rules for Dragonlance. I find
it ironic, then, that we're sitting on the heels of 4th edition. The
scope and purpose of the Nexus has grown tremendously, becoming a
massive fan resource and a celebration of Dragonlance in all its
forms.
"By the fans, for the fans." It's our guiding principle and will
lead us forward into the future.
DRAGONLANCE MOVIE!!!
The Dragonlance movie will be released straight-to-DVD on January
15! We've heard some early reviews with mixed results and are
patiently awaiting the movie release. Once we have it, we'll be
certain to post our own review.
Also, just a reminder that you can order your copy through the Nexus:

THANK YOU, MARGARET WEIS PRODUCTIONS!
As we near the final stages of the Dragonlance license, I just wanted
to give a big thank you to Margaret Weis Productions for the stellar
work they did on Dragonlance. I consider their run on Dragonlance
the "golden era of Dragonlance gaming." The writing, rules, art,
etc. all came together to form a masterpiece, all filled with a love
for the setting. MWP was kind enough to offer the opportunity to
write for them to the Whitestone Council, and one of our number even
joined their ranks (kudos to Cam Banks!). Certainly, Dragonlance is
a much better world due to MWP's efforts. From all of us at the
Dragonlance Nexus, thank you for keeping the dream alive.
DRAGONLANCE 4TH EDITION?
Yes, folks, there will be a Dragonlance 4th edition, or at least a
4th edition conversion document on the Nexus. I'll state up front
that I'm unaware at this time what plans Wizards of the Coast has for
Dragonlance gaming as of this time, if any. There has been some talk
of them releasing a campaign setting each year, so if that was the
case, it would likely be the year 2010 before we saw anything.
Our intent with the Nexus is to provide a 4th edition conversion
document that will have conversions from the MWP sourcebooks. Those
are still the primary source for DL info and we want to carry on in
the MWP tradition.
NOVEL NEWS
Out now is The Black Talon, book one of the Ogre Titans trilogy by
Richard Knaak, and Doug Niles pens book one of the Dwarf Home
trilogy, The Secret of Pax Tharkas (which I hear is really good!).
Protecting Palanthas and The Rebellion are also out.
Remember that you can purchase these books through the Nexus. We're
set up as an Amazon associate, so every book you guy helps us to pay
the bills and keep the site going.
On a sad note, though, Dragons of the Hourglass Mage (book three of
Lost Chronicles) has had an indefinite delay and may possibly not be
published at all. From what we know, the manuscript has not been
started yet. Details are real sketchy at this time, so we will let
you know more once we have more info.
NEW ON THE NEXUS
We've had several new additions to the Nexus, and there are a few I'd
like to talk about. First, I just wanted to give props to our friend
Psycha, who produces some of the best art on the site. She has been
kind enough to help out with the Lexicon, Adlatum, and the upcoming
Oriental Dragonlance project. Be sure to check out her art in our
art section.
On the gaming front, I wrote an essay on the nature of Wild Sorcery
that you may find interesting. Also, be sure to check out
Kendermage's Darkwatch Elves. Normally, when I see something about
drow in Dragonlance, I cringe. Yet Kendermage has come up with a
solution that works with the Silvanesti houses and is tied into Key
of Destiny. Whether or not you're into the idea of drow in
Dragonlance, please be sure to read this article.
DRAGONLANCE CANTICLE PODCAST
Sorry that we've had a delay on this one. Real Life and the holidays
have really played havoc on our schedules. However, there should be
a new episode of the Canticle released soon.
DRAGONHELM'S CORNER
I thought I'd start a new section where I could post a few thoughts
that may or may not have to deal with Dragonlance. Sort of my own
personal space.
As I sit here this rainy morning with my black cat on my lap, I can't
help but wonder at how far we've come in seven years. We have seen
an edition come and go. Our mission of continuing Dragonlance gaming
was a success.
Fourth Edition is around the corner. I've been reading up in Races
and Classes, and there are a lot of interesting things coming down
the pike. I have various thoughts on how things will fit, or if they
will, but it is probably best to let you guys decide for yourselves.
Also, if you haven't already, be sure to check out the world of
Pathfinder, by Paizo Publishing. The guys at Paizo know how to make
adventures, and they're redefining monsters into something fun. I
haven't been this interested in monsters in ages. So check it out!
UNTIL NEXT TIME
Well, my friends, I hope that the New Year is treating you well.
It's a year of transition, to be sure, but one in which Dragonlance
will continue to thrive. I wanted to say a big thank you to everyone
who supported the Nexus these last seven years. Here's to another
seven more!
Long Live the Lance!
