It is still cheaper to stay where the con is at even if it costs a bit more a night because you dont have cab fare and time to and from your other hotel between con events. in the past everyone I have ever known that went to the con and stayed somewhere else always said if they had it to do over again they would just pay the little extra and stay where the con is for the convienance and not having to pay for and wait for cabs.

Also, don't feel that you *have* to stay on the Strip or Downtown. There are plenty of nice hotels on roads "near" the Strip that can be nice and more budget-friendly. And usually not casinos as well, although casinos are everywhere.
And those of us who live in the Vegasarea would be more than happy to take a look at the exterior, at least, in passing and let you know how the property appears.
And, also, as mentioned, many of the hotels run frequent promotions with discounted room rates, possibly including one or more meals.

That reminds me, daughter was wanting to know if we did book at the hotel where the con is to be, if they would let her use comps? Not really sure of this...
