Funny, I am just getting started in DBA too and have the Viking army...
(can field 40a or b and after looking for opponents I am going to pick
the Picts...seems like a very diffferent army to learn on - not sure
about how even they will match up..probably depends a lot on the
terrain.

Nope! In fact in DBM you can about face for 'free' using LH, before and after movement. During DBA playtest phase this move was also considered, but - IMVHO -...
