I have these binaries available at
http://www.geocities.com/matt_10710/cysdk-bin.html

Looks like you are going to need a Windows compiler
of some sort to make use of it, though -- the simulator
runs from code in a DLL. Maybe GCC could be finagled.

This stuff looks old, though. Where did you find that IP
address?

Actually, this is Stephane... Alot of english speaking people call me

name.

Actually, there is 2 things you can do. There is a delay of 300 ms for
the flashing blocks and the game starts with level 1. Every time you
make 5 'yopus' (clear 4 or more balls of the same type) the level goes
up by 1 and the game becomes progresivele faster. Now, one can change
the level in the source code to say 5 and they will start at level 5.
The next version will allow a user to pick a level to start at. Also,
the next version will show you the yopu coming next.

BTW, thanks for the nice comments!

Sure, that would be easy!

Actually, there is. One could use the "DirectKeyboard" set of
functions. This looks a bit to much like "Direct X" for winblows.
Anyways, anything that will give you an edge, one should use.

Later this week, I should release Yopu which will use DirectKeyboard.

its an awesome version and i'm so glad you made it, but i think it would

I've found a bug in 'draw_lib'. This is the function to use
to draw "sprites" to the screen.

  If you wish to use the 'BM_FLIP_X' and 'BM_FLIP_Y' attributes
(for horizontal &/or vertical flip of your graphic) then make sure
that these graphics are in their own file (in the filer.list file).
and that no other extremely large graphic is in the same file.
A large graphic in the same file will cause the FLIPs to not work.
The result will be nothing drawn.

  I've spent about 4 hours on this stupid bug.

debug code to isolate the exact problem.

Hi Jeff,

thanks for confirming the bug... I thought I was going insane. It actually
took me 2-3 hours to find that bug.

I had to do the same type of modification to my code. I only had one
calculation in however. My code was something like:

board[x][y-1]

and that would fail.

So, I see your developing for the Cybiko, what are you developing?

BTW, I will post my game and source code this weekend. Hope you guys enjoy
Puyo!

Stephane Lajeunesse.

Hi Guys,

  I have found that when using arrays, trying to do math
in the first parameter will produce bad code but there is no
compiler warning. I have already sent an email to Cybiko
about this.

Bad Code
--------

  int x,y,i;
  i = Test[y/4][x/4];

Good Code
---------

  int x,y,i,ox,oy;
  ox = x/4;
  oy = y/4;
  i = Test[oy][ox];

Good Code
---------

  int x,y,i,oy;
  oy = y/4;
  i = Test[oy][x/4];

Hi Patrick,

> Can it be a good gaming platform?

Well, I have just finished writing a small game for it. I think it
was a "fairly" straight forward. The only thing that I really hated,
the sprite handling. To put it bluntly, it's a pain. This is aimed
at teens. Teens don't always (note the always) have a strong
knowledge of video game consoles. In order to move a sprite from A to
B, you have to do the following:

draw background on first page
copy first page to a second page
draw sprite(s)

while sprites move do
    copy second page to first page
    draw sprite(s) to new location
done

This took me some time to figure out. Since it has an OS on it and we
call OS functions, I would have made a simple "move_bitmap" that would
have taken care of all of the dirty-work.

> Can it be a good general-use (web browsing, FTP, email, etc)
platform?

I guess, altought at 160x100, web browsing would be painfull. As for
FTP, one would have to port an IP stack and SLIP to the Cybiko.

> Is the keyboard usable? Could I, say, write a lengthy note or even
> code a program on it?

I wouldn't count on this. You REALLY need the stylus if you have
anything but tiny hands.

> How much of the functionality is hard-coded (ie, keys whose
functions
> you can't override?)

Well, some keys (top 7 keys above screen) look pretty much hard coded
in the OS but that's about it. All other keys are fair play.

> Could a program (a game, for example) support more than two users?
> It seems like the demo games are only two-player...

I would say yes. you can chat with more than 2 people. It's just a
matter of coding support for more than 2 players!

Hope this helped you. BTW, I should release my game and source code
for it sometime this weekend. It's a puyo-puyo clone.

I'm pretty new to the whole Cybiko (and how _do_ you pronounce that>)
thing, just having found out about it this past Thursday.

I spent the weekend reading all the docs and some of the code, and I
must say, I am intrigued. There are a few questions I ponder, and I
was wondering if those of you here with the devices could help me out.

Can it be a good gaming platform?

Can it be a good general-use (web browsing, FTP, email, etc) platform?

Is the keyboard usable? Could I, say, write a lengthy note or even
code a program on it?

How much of the functionality is hard-coded (ie, keys whose functions
you can't override?)

Could a program (a game, for example) support more than two users?
It seems like the demo games are only two-player...

Thanks,

Patrick Forhan.

Okay, lets hope this will change very soon. Otherwise there is no point

  There is a CyberLoad program that is used to download free games from
the Cybiko site, but this program has no option for easily loading a
user ROM from what I can tell. This program allows you to transfer
programs from PC to Cybiko but only after you first did a
Cybiko.com-->Cybiko and then a Cybiko-->PC transfer.

  You can add your own game to the local Games directory but you then have
to modify the "MyComputer.ini" file to recognize your game. You have to put
in several lines of text to do this, which varies depending on your setup.

  I might post just the PC Console program on devrs.com but I'm not sure it
other DLLs need to be installed as well for people to get that, alone, to work.

It does have all the nice wireless stuff (well, short distance) and
supports download of games.... But will it ever have a market !!! Time will

But what the GamePark does that that seems to be missing from the Cybiko, a

  Thae part that sucks is this the free player is only offered to US residents.
It comes with no memory but has an SMC slot where you can add up to 64MBytes.

  That http://www.gp32.com site is either awful or they haven't yet
released the thing. No real info on their site on how to get one
as far as I can tell.

YEP. I would say so.. How much mem does it have 512 KB ? not much for a MP3
:) But if you then use the extra memory extension also !! or maybe the MP3
addon have its own memory.. Lets hope so :)

  It looks like you can get it in the UK from http://www.etoys.co.uk
I haven't located any other outside-US locations yet though.

  I think it's one of those geek toys that every geek has to have. ;)
The main complaint of it seems to be that the small keyboard is
very hard to use. You probably have to use a stylus rather than
fingers to operate the letters/numbers.

  Good question. I would assume with the free mp3 player that they are
throwing in for a short time that you might get alot of people buying
it just for that feature.

> And are there any publishers ? (any commerical games ?)

  I don't think any yet except the makers.

  It does sound to me, though, that this is the first hand-held
game system(?) where it would be practical for anyone to sell their
own game off a web site. Since every user has the ability to load
your game, you have a market that includes all owners.

  The first popular, open-system handheld game system? 8)

Will the Cybiko be sold out side of the US ?

Is there a market for it ?

It does have all that nice wireless chatting and so. But how many have been sold ? (No fun to be the only one and chat to yourself!!!)

And are there any publishers ? (any commerical games ?)

Just a few questions to get it all started !!!
