Hello,
It may seem rather odd but my little cousins (eldest is 8) love playing Sitting Ducks Gallery (instead of dying they sleep, like in Pokemon) in addition to Apples to Apples Jr. and they also like Guillotine.  They've tried the kid versions of Settlers of Catan and they gave Carcassonne a go but it was a tad advanced for their age.  I think that'd play well with a slightly older crowd.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Hi All,

I wanted to let you know about a new networking site for gamers by gamers, rpgbomb.com.  This is the brainchild of some of our friends that we see at TotalCon, OGC and Carnage.

I was asked to beta test it while at TotalCon this year and now the beta is growing.  We are allowed to invite friends and I was told that I can slowly post the information to some groups.  Since many of the people already on the list are some you may already know, I thought you might be interested because  it does seem like a good way to connect with the gaming community especially if it continues to do well and grow.  So far, I like the site and what it has to offer.

Basically, it is set up like a myspace page where you can have a profile(without having to use do it yourself nasty HTML codes), look for events, play video games, blog, add friends, join groups and instantly chat.  But, you can also have sub-profiles listing your favorite games, characters, etc as a way to find local people to invite to games.

If you are interested, please feel free to visit the site http://rpgbomb.com/~rpgbomb0/

Good Gaming!

Hello Northeast Gamers,

It's that time of year. The 'ol Council of Five Nations machinery is starting up once again.

We'll have our 31st Council this year, October 10-12.  Council is one of the oldest gaming conventions in existence.  Here's the ad we ran in Dragon Magazine #10 for Council II, back in 1977:

Council of Five Nations advertisement in Dragon Magazine #10 (1977)

Gary Gygax as a Guest of Honor!  $6 entry fee for the whole weekend!  Those were the days...

We're currently looking for volunteers to run games.  If you'd like to help us out with one (or more!), we'd love to have you.  Not only can you get free entry, but we've got a special T-Shirt incentive this year... but only if you get your games in promptly!  Please check out this page for more info:

Even if you're not interested in GMing, you can keep tabs on all the latest Council info here:

We will be updating this page regularly.

Over 1,000 of you will be receiving a postcard from us over the next few days.  It asks that you mark your calendars now - save Columbus Day Weekend (October 10-12).  That's about two-and-a-half months away.

Please feel free to forward this email to your friends (we offer discounts for group registrations of 3+).

Please feel free to bring your kids (students get in half price, and we offer a whole event track of "kid friendly" games).

Please feel free to plan a road trip with your whole college gaming club (the group and student discounts stack!).

Watch your email box for more Council news as things progress.

We look forward to seeing you in October!

Hi All,

GM Doug Poirer has graciously offered to run a role-playing adventure
for anyone wishing to join in the fun. Limit 6 players.

Name: A village in the mist
RPG: Castles & Crusades . Should be billed as a D20 game
Level: 1st
# of players: 6

An earthquake has recently struck the outer parts of the Herrattate
Kingdom. Weeks have passed and no lives have been reported lost. This
part of the kingdom is remote though and no one has heard from them
since the earthquake. A merchant just returned from the area with
strange news. He came upon a little traveled village that seemed
recently abandoned. He noted that much of the plant life in the
village was dead as if struck by blight and immediately turned back.
It seems as though the earthquake has released foul evil upon the
land. Your group has been charged by the crown to investigate and if
possible to eliminate this evil.

If you want to play this game, please register to reserve your seat
by visiting the TotalCon website and clicking on the link.

Hey all -

I'm very interested in DM'ing for TotalCon. I DM'd at the 2008 GenCon
(8 slots) and will be doing the same for DDXP... I live in Framingham
if it makes any difference.

Can someone break down the DM application process?

Thanks!

- Alan.

While news stories of late have been full of doom and gloom, nothing could be better for the attendees at TotalCon!!  This year we've worked even harder to bring first rate gaming right to the players in New England.  Come join the fun and experience gaming that is beyond ordinary!!

Coming to TotalCon XXIII:

Frank Mentzer:  a fantasy writer and game designer best known for his work on early materials for the Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) fantasy role-playing game. Frank was an employee at TSR, Inc. in the early stages of the company from 1980 to 1986. In 1981 he founded the Role-Playing Games Association (RPGA). Among other positions he held at TSR, he was Creative Adviser to the Chairman of the Board, Gary Gygax. He continues to be an active member of the gaming community and is a principal auctioneer at many GenCon and Origins game conventions.

He will be running early edition D&D games as well as other being part of other special events through-out the entire convention.  If you would like to see recent video footage of Frank, please visit RPGBomb.com, a great new site for and by gamers!

Flames of War Regional Qualifier: New England FoW and historical miniatures fans prepare!!  Gordon Pittsley of Alder Hobby in NH (formerly Empire Games) is hosting a FoW mid-war 1500 point tournament, 3 rounds on Saturday followed by a 3 round Mega battle "up the bloody boot" on Sunday. Tables will be themed for a Italian theater operation so any army painted or themed for that theater will have a special game option of deciding to go first or second for each round. Not a game breaker but just a fun way to encourage and thank people who get into the theme .  More information or to ask questions about this event or FoW info, please visit the New England FoW yahoo group.  Join the discussion as FoW fans gear up for these fantastic events.

Jay Libby:  co-owner of Dilly Green Bean Games, a Maine based independent role-playing company.  He is a designer, artist, editor, and writer for DGBG and we are very pleased to have him join everyone by bringing his special brand of Dilly Green Bean humor in his events to TotalCon.

Questions about TC Realms can be sent to steve@...

Brad Younie: president of Carnivore Games, is returning to offer more great role-playing events.  Carnivore Games received the first New England Gamers Choice Award for best independent game at TotalCon XXII.  It is great honor to have Brad returning to TotalCon.

RealmsMasters GameForge: a great indie game company featuring the card game Chaos Isles.  This year the great team from RealmsMasters was in our exhibit hall and  they have decided to come back and run events featuring their great products in 2009!  Their games were well received by many at TotalCon last year and we know you will enjoy them too!

Hi Charely,

Good to see you make the jump to our announcement forum!!  Everything everyone has said is correct.

Our event submission period is still open so we do not open pre-reg until after then (usually late December/early January) because we run on a ticket based system.  Our pre-reg is $30 for the weekend plus $3 per 4 hour slot ticket fee.  You can register for specific events (highly encouraged so you get sold out), or get a generic ticket that is good for any open seat at any table(any unused generic tickets are refundable minus a re-stocking fee).  Registration also covers admittance to the dealer hall, free movies, open board gaming and open video gaming all weekend long.

Our hotel is the Holiday Inn in Mansfield, MA. here's the link: http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/hi/1/en/hotel/BOSMF/welcome

Our hotel room rates start at just $85 with code TCN.  For the cold winter months, there is a nice heated indoor pool/sauna plus and on-site restaurant/bar with a special pre-order take-out meal plan for gamers wanting to avoid long longs and wait times. Plus there are nearby fast food places, stores, etc.

I will make an announcement on Dragonsfoot when pre-reg opens.  Have no worries about that.  The staff at TotalCon is VERY pleased that there is such excitement growing about the AD&D section at TotalCon this year.

And for those that haven't heard THAT great news... Several AD&D fans have come forward to host 1st and 2nd edition games at Total this year since Frank Mentzer will be joining us.
It would be great to see this turn into one of the largest gatherings of early ed. fans ever!!

So, if you want to re-live the magic of the days "way back when" or want to discover the games that started it all...You are invited to join the fun.

TotalCon XXIII...it's all happening here!

Angelia;

I probably have a HUGE number of convention style modules for 1st edition (something about writing modules for WAY to many decades).  Is it useful for me to dust one/two of them off for this year's totalcon?  It just would mean that I can't run EVERY slot for TCRealms...... (sorry steve)

please let me know.

thanks
bob

Hey Bob,

Why don't you give us a few weeks before committing to that.  There is a group of guys that have come forward pledging to run 1st and 2nd ed. games for the convention/other Frank fans, etc.  Together, we hope to pull together an impressive AD&D presence this year so everyone can join in the fun and make the most of Frank's time at Total.  If it looks like we will need more DM's to handle the players, I'll ping ya!  Wouldn't want to pull you away from TC Realms if not absolutely needed.  That way, I won't get shot!!
