Hi All,
Is there a definitive list anywhere of all the Egyptian Battalions which
served in the Sudan at any time during the first few years of the Mahdist
Revolt (prior to the pull out and such). While the 1898 stuff is reasonably
well documented for the Omdurman Campaign I can't find much on the earlier
stuff, including a full list of what original Battalions were in the Sudan
at the time of the revolt (and where they were) and what if any got sent
there as reinforcements, plus which (if any) of the new reformed Egyptian
army battalions were where in the 1885-1887 period at the time of the
British Suakin & Khartoum expeditions? Is there any source that gives a
comprehensive deployment listing, or am I going to have to keep plugging
through numerous texts referencing "an Egyptian Brigade", or "including
3,000 Egyptians, and so on waiting & looking for that elusive ".which
included the 3rd & 7th Egyptian Battalions."
I do have a copy of the British Official History and a couple of other books
that has just arrived but haven't had time to peruse, so I'm hoping someone
can at least point out which books or sources have the best references for
this information.?
As usual Many TIA if someone can point me in the right direction.
