Chess Tournament at Canyon Vista Middle School

Saturday, November 15, 2008 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Canyon Vista Middle School

8455 Spicewood Springs Rd.

Austin, Texas 78759

Hosted by CVMS Chess Club and Rocks & Rooks

Come play in the first Austin area scholastic chess tournament of the 2008-2009 school year.

The Scholastic Section ($18 early entry) is a 5 round swiss open to all players K-12, rated below 1500. The day before the tournament, the list of players will be divided into sub-sections based upon ability, i.e. rating. Each scholastic sub-section will have between 20 & 30 participants. Each participant should be playing against players of a very similar strength, usually within 200 rating points. We hope these pairings will give all kids a chance to succeed! The NOVEMBER 2008 supplement will be used to determine ratings. Registrations received after 5:00PM, Friday, November 14th are not guaranteed a first round game.

The Open Section ($25 early entry) is a 4 round swiss open to all ages. ALL players rated above 1500 must play in the Open Section. All adults play in the Open Section. Contact the registrar if you have questions about these restrictions. Ineligible entries will be placed in an appropriate scholastic section and $5 refunded.

You can register online - it will take you < 3 minutes to register online, saving you and the organizers lots of time. After you register, you can view your name on the pre-registration list.
