Hi!  I'm one of the folks that helps setup and run the GAMES! event, so
let me clarify our expectations for munchkins (no, not Steve Jackson
munchkins, young human munchkins).  We do welcome folks with kids to come
and participate, but we do not offer childcare for any age during the
event.  Parents who wish to bring their children along are expected to be
responsible for keeping them safe and entertained.

The event is held in a gymnasium with concrete floors and carpeted walls,
so there is room for kids to run around and play, but we do want parents
to keep them under control so they don't disturb other folks playing board
games (and we request that they be kept in the gym for their own safety
and to minimize the impact on the building).  Depending on who attends and
whether they bring their kids, there might be other kids to play with, but
we still ask that parents maintain order.  We also don't provide any
kid-targeted games to play (my kid isn't old enough to play yet, otherwise
I'd probably bring some), so you'll need to bring along stuff for them to
play with.

All that said, folks are welcome to come and go as they wish, so it might
not hurt to pop in and check it out sometime, with or without kids.

Hey Mike,

   I have gone to several of these - and they have a variety of games. Mostly
whatever games people bring. The church usually has a fooseball table and ping
pong and darts set up - otherwise it's all what people bring.

There are usually a lot of younger kids here, and normally some 'younger' games.
There is usually a couple toddler-age kids there to play with. I quite often
bring my seven year old (well, he just turned 8 now).

But that being said, if you plan on playing a more in-depth game requiring
concentration, you will find it tricky to keep an eye on the kids (especially
younger ones) and play your game.  But, nothing lost if you try - stop by, stay
as long as you like! Maybe bring some games your kids can play, or play with
other kids.

I will probably be there this weekend with my boys (ages 8 and 12).

Savage Worlds adventure for Slipstream.

What is anyone else bringing out?

On March 22, Steve Zieser will turn 42. If you're a sci-fi geek (like us), you
know that the number 42 holds a lot of significance. 42 is the answer to the
most important question ever asked: What is the meaning of Life, the Universe
and Everything? [Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe by Douglas Adams]

Of course, life is not sci-fi (did I just say that?) and can often be more
serious than we expect. This was the case last week as we found out that the
cancer Steve had beaten twice before has most likely returned. While this wasn't
the "answer" we wanted to receive...it is what we were given.

Fortunately, we haven't reached the end of the story...not by a long shot. 
Steve is not giving up hope...neither of us are. We refuse to allow the word
cancer to hinder our life. We will continue to be foster parents, continue to
pursue adoption, continue to reach out to others who are hurting and most of all
we will continue to praise our God who was and is and is to come.

So, in about a week, when Steve turns 42 (and actually, even now) he will be
able to tell us all the true answer to the age-old question: What is the meaning
of Life, the Universe and Everything? That answer...is love.

Love is a many splendored thing...love makes the world go round...all we need is
love...but most of all: God is Love

On this most special of birthdays, I would like to shower my beloved husband
with the love I know is out there. Not only to celebrate his birthday, but to
fill his mind and heart and soul with all the love and encouragement that he so
needs right now.

If you want to be a part of this celebration, please send cards and letters of
hope, support and love to...
